In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

My name is Amanda Bower and my partner is David Karanowski. We are making this post to inform the BOI about a gentelmen name Tay Boon Chai Desmond in Singapore. He contacted us 3 months ago, May 6th 2005, about some high end Leopard Geckos that were placed for sale on Kingsnake.com. After all of 3 months of conversation, all of which I can supply to anyone interested, 12 geckos were shipped to him via fed-ex at his singapore location. The arrangment were these Hypo carrot tails, Tangerine striped, Blizzard Lizards and other various colored geckos were being sent to him in trade for ONE axantheic ball python. The estimated, what we payed for them, of the geckos was more then $3000US. Those animals were shipped on July 5th 2005. On July 8th 2005 Dave and Myself recived a fed-ex box containing one Koo Malu Bath set. He claims to be an accountant having graduated in Austrailia. I do have an mailing adress and e-mail if anyone thinks they are dealing with this individual along with pictures of himself and his animals. The pictures that he gave me that is.

Let me get this straight. You agreed to receive an overseas shipment of a CITES Appendix II animal via FedEx? Do you know that is breaking the law? Did he send you a copy of his CITES paperwork? This animal needed to go through the proper channels (shipped air freight to an appropriate airport where inspectors are stationed), be inspected by Fish and Wildlife, cleared through customs, etc. Sadly, it sounds like you have been scammed.

Out of curiosity, how did you ship the geckos to him?

In the post it mentions that the geckos were shipped Fed Ex as well, and yes, if things went down as she said, she did get scammed in a big way.

My oversight. How long did it take for the geckos to get to Singapore? I don't mean to rub salt in your wounds but live reptiles shipped overseas really should be sent air freight, airport to airport to minimize the time in transit. Not only is that best for the animals but I believe that it also is a regulation of Fish and Wildlife that these animals be inspected prior to shipping at an approved airport. If they were not inspected prior to shipping I believe that you were in violation of the law.

They were inspected by the local wildlife extension office and had legal paperwork with them to go overseas. I do not unfortunantely get cites paperwork from this man. Yes, it does appear that I have been scammed in a horrible way. The gentelman told us that he recived the animals on the 7th.

So, let's see....

You've been a member here for a year....

You shipped your animals FIRST....

You shipped your animals ILLEGALLY....

You agree to accept ILLEGALLY imported animals....

You have NO paperwork from CITES, USFG, etc....

You have the COJONES to put all this out for public (and Federal) view....

You actually think you did nothing wrong and want the rest of us to tell you what you should do now??....

OK.... I'll tell you....

Hide under your bed and pray to God that no Federal Agency reads this post, or this will be the LEAST of your worries....

Neil

I don't think that I posted anywhere that I was under the assumption that I have done nothing wrong, and I don't eblive that I asked anyone to give me any advice.

"Just ignore him Neil..."

Let me rephrase that. Just ignore Neil. If your paper work was in order, you are fine. As for the ball python; you apparently did not know at the time, and it never was shipped anyway. So you should be ok if things are as you say.

I was not aware that CITES paperwork applied to ball pythons, that is where I indeed did mess up royaly. As you said, it obviously was not shipped anyway. I took the package to the state wildlife office and had the package and animals inspected. The officer then issued me paperwork to give to the shipper and to hold on to so that I could send the animals to the adress provided. While I am glad to see that you are all so concerned about my legal well being, I only posted so that someone would not get scammed like I did. Most people reading this though would have asked for the CITES paperwork, sen that he more then likely di not have it, and backed out, but, you never know. Also, I am sure that there are some people who did not know that about ball pythons and the CITES thing, so I guess this is a good thing. Thanks you guys.

Umm, did you have proper export permits/paperwor in order on your end? Unless rules havr recently changed (like in the past 19 days that I missed, you cannot ship animals overseas like that without proper paperwork, USFW inspections, things like that? Also I don't believe that shipping animals to other countries Fed Ex is legal. Is it?

You cannot just ship a box of leos to Sinagapore through Fed Ex International shipping. You must have proper paperwork, health certificates, inspections. And they normally are transferd via Airline.

Please explain how you went about shipping your geckos overseas in greater detail, it will help everyone understand the situation a little bit better I think.

A few of us, including the members of the Jedi Council, are not going to pass judgement upon you for what is clearly an innocent mistake. The rules are very difficult to understand, especially for a beginner in import/export.

I don't think she should be killed for posting her experience.

Ok, not until I read KelliH's post did I realize why everyone was asking the same thing over and over again. Ok, so, I am going to say, Step by step what happened when the animals were shipped.
1. Bought animal shipping box with styrofoam. Containers for each animal and heat packs.
2. Took packaged animals to state extension office where they were examened, and was given paperwork to give the the shipper.
3. Shipper picked up animals, and paper work and took the animals to the Kanas City airport.
All I know is that when they got to the airport a woman called and confirmed they were my animals and where they were going. The box was clearely marked as live animals. I don't know if that is how it is supposed to be done, but that is what happened. I messed up and fell for an expensive scam.
I was under the impression that from there they were going through the correct channels. Fed-ex was used to get the animals from junction to kanas city, and from where ever they landed in singapore to the gentelman's address.
I recived a confirmation from the man, and the fed-ex web page that the man recived the animals. Then I got my bogus package the next day. I know now that I am never doing anything overseas again.

$3000.00 bath set

AMANDA; just wondering, how does that koo malu bath set work. always think about that bath set.It will keep you from trusting & makeing the same mistake twice.consider it a lesson learned.be it an expensive one.

The name sounds familiar. I received a trade offer a few months ago on an Albino Ball Python I was selling. He offered a VPI Axanthic for trade. The photos he sent were horrible quality, and it looked like one of those normal BPs that just sorta suddenly fade out with light yellow, but return to normal after another shed. I couldn't find anything by searching his name, so I did a search for his email address. Bingo. He had placed an advertisement on an international classifieds website for a clutch of VPI Axanthics he'd recently hatched. I think he was asking $4K each. Of course, he was showing one of Ralph Davis' clutch photos. I contacted Ralph and he immediately confirmed the stolen photo. And while typing this, I do remember the name given -- Tay Desmond. (No mention of Boon Chai.) In fact, I still have the original email with the photos he sent.

Sorry for your financial loss. Chalk it up to an expensive lesson learned. Do research. Always do research.

Take Care,
Chris

Chris.... I have to disagree.... Research doesn't matter in the least.... All that has to be done is NEVER SHIP FIRST.... This site is LOADED with that phrase (from ME at least a million times alone)....
I have NEVER been ripped off or scammed in a trade deal, because, no matter WHO the guy on the other end of the phone is, if you get his animals the next day, you get his animals the next day.... If you don't, who cares???.... You're not out one thin dime.... IF his animals DO show up, THEN you ship yours.... It can't get any easier than that....
If they don't want to ship first , MOVE ON.... and this goes for shipping SAME DAY, too!!.... NEVER EVER EVER!!

Neil, that's great advice. If everyone took it there would be no trades ever. Maybe not such a bad thing?

Sure there would, Jim.... I've had dozens of people call me to say they wanted to trade their animal for mine.... It didn't matter to me who was on the phone, I didn't care what his name was or his phone number.... I just told him to send them, as soon as I received them, mine would go out.... IF the animal showed up, THEN I would call him and let him know if I accepted.... I've NEVER had a problem that way.... Especially when THEY make the OFFER OF TRADE???.... It's like poker.... I, "called you".... YOU have to show me FIRST....
There should never be a deal that you HAVE to have.... There will always be another deal right around the corner, if you're patient....

Neil

Well, see, Neil....you have one fatal flaw to your theory. Just because I am a registered user, and have been so for one year, does not mean in the LEAST that I have EVER read the BOI. This is my first time posting here, and to be really honest ever reading anything on this board. I joined fauna cause a friend told me to. If you would notice, this is my first post EVER on fauna, not this one but this thread. So please, if you would, take your "I'm almighty" stick out of your rear and give people a chance. You are not perfect, so get over it. No one deserves to be ripped apart the way you seem to feel I deserve. I made a STUPID mistake. I lost a crapton of animals and money, but you know what?! Nothing I can do now, and no matter how many times you attempt to rub it in my face things I SHOULD have done, I am not getting my geckos back. So bug off if you have nothing else but ridicule to add.
