In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info TexHiss Jimmy Horton - Poor Animal Condition, Bad Shipping Practices

How does it not have relevance. This is an "underfed" snake and so it that one.

"underfed"="underfed"

The reason why it was stated that the one particular post, that you posted, does not have relevance, in this thread, is because it is not about the person, who is the subject of this thread, and has nothing to do with him.

....

The seller offered all of her money back.

Yes he did. Although if she did return the snake and it died while being shipped back, would he still refund her? Would he turn the blame on her for the snake dying? Who knows because the snake came out of his care in sure poor condition. If I were in that kind of situation with a very unfed/starved and dehydrated snake, I wouldn't risk the animal's life by shipping it back to be right back in poor living conditions. Just my 2 cents.

You all are hitting the nail on the head, thanks! He admitted, himself, that this is acceptable and HEALTHY animal... Really?! As I've stated numerous times, this doesn't happen over night, this is repeated lack of care! Also, as I've stated numerous times, this is NO LONGER about the transaction! I've said that, yes, he did have a smooth transaction; money was received from me, I received a live animal, he offered a refund when I told him that I was not expecting a malnourished animal(and proceeded to get huffy when I was upset at the condition the snake was in). THE TRANSACTION WAS FINE... THE ANIMAL? NOT AT ALL. THIS is what it's about. His ethics as a breeder. I can't POSSIBLY recommend or support a breeder that promotes, via saying this is OKAY, starving and dehydrated an animal to the point that it's a bloody miracle it even survived shipping in an unlabeled box.

I posted this thread so that others may know that this is what I got in 2015, since the last BOIs on him were in 2011. I didn't even say bad guy, even though I probably should have. He CHOSE to come here of his own accord, he CHOSE his words. He's made it abundantly clear that he thinks this is a healthy snake and is perfectly acceptable to both send a snake, in this condition, from his facility AND to ship it illegally in an unmarked box. He's even gone back on his words and tried to change the story when people called him on what he original said, IE, saying they received feeding monthly, and then changing it to bi-weekly after people showed their extreme concern.

You can keep defending him, I don't care, my point's been made and received, and he only backed it with what he's said here, in this thread.

As for you bringing up a post you made about another breeder? Yes, that is off topic. Please keep it off this thread, as it's not about whoever you bought from, this thread is about Jimmy Horton.

------------------

I did try feeding him a pinky, and he unfortunately didn't take it despite braining it. He's probably still very stressed, so I'll try again next week.

Its funny how you guys choose sides based on the situation. I posted about how a guy was underfeeding his bolivian red tail boa and all of you guys stuck up for him.

http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1856749#post1856749

So is this snake way underfed or "Starved". I know its not thin but it is very very very undersized to be a 2013.

Incorrect, that Bolivian is a slow fed snake with great muscle tone and overall body composition.

The boa Jimmy sent out appeared several dehydrated and incredibly deflated, but likely from a regurgitation not being treated for, not really for being underfed.

You know not of which you speak regardless.

Hate to inform you all, but he passed away earlier today after he started corkscrewing. I know that's a VERY bad sogn and normally doesn't have a good prognosis. He passed on the way to our herp vet. :(

Get a necropsy! A snake in that bad of condition and corkscrewing you need to know of there's any diseases and we all know who it would have came from!

He's in a baggie in the fridge. I think the University a few towns over are the closest that does necropsies. I don't have another day off until Friday, so I'll probably take him in then.

Hoping it's just neurological and not IBD. If I were a breeder and was alerted I had IBD among my collection, I would have a colossal panic attack.

Snakes typically go into death rolls before dying, sometimes this happens hours prior to the fact and sometimes it happens immediately before.

I doubt it was anything more than that.

I hope so. :( Just wish the little fella had made it... When I went to change out his water his head was going in a circular motion and his body was following with it, like a constant spiral I guess is the best way to describe it... like he was perpetually wrapping around an invisible object.

Very sad occasion when this happens but unfortunately true, only about 5 months ago I witnessed my previously perfectly healthy adult malayan cave racer just suddenly start the "death roll spiral" and within minutes he was dead.
No warning, no signs, no reason...just sometimes life or lack of it happens.

So sorry for your loss, not sure if you will find he had any illness but pretty sure his starved and dehydrated condition would not have helped matters at all!
Please keep us posted and I wonder what Mr Horton has to say about this now?
Strangely silent so far.......

Best to check just in case. :( He was in quarantine, but if there was an illness it may be in the breeder's best interest to know so he can, hopefully, do the right thing and seek treatment for any of his collection/babies that came into direct or indirect contact. I know IBD has no cure, but if it could of been something else that was contagious or an infection caused by husbandry, may be valuable to know. I had him in a tub, set up with a hide on each side and water in the middle. Thermostat controlled UTH, read 90F on the hot side and my temp gun read about 82F on the cooler side. 60% humidity.

This is the first time I've experienced a death roll, I've never had a snake die on me before :( ...

Sad to see that the baby Boa passed away.
My condolences.

Hope that Mr. Horton gives you a refund. As he should.
Considering, I would not want a replacement. Just a full monetary refund.

....

Well, this thread just escalated tenfold. From a severely dehydrated boa that could be saved with a little TLC, water and food, to the three most scary letters in any boa breeders vocabulary: IBD. Ouch. Even if it is not "you know what", it still hammers his business via the possibility alone. If I were the dealer who sold this boa, I would be begging for the body of that snake so I could get it tested and clear my name. Then, I would give a full refund. Quickly.

Thin chance that the seller will even attempt to make this right. Layed out he sold a snake in poor condition, horrible shipping practices, and denial that he was the one that was wrong. That only leaves one conclusion....A seller that doesn't care for the animal and is out to make a quick buck and accepts zero responsibility in his malpractices.

I would bet against IBD. As Diem pointed out, "death rolls" are very common when the snake is dying, and way too many people throw out those three letters when many other problems cause neuro symptoms.

Definitely get that necropsy done.

I agree on the fact too many people throw those initials out. It's not to be taken lightly when predicting that. There could be a myriad of cause of death.

Agreed. Likely not IBD, but it remains a possibility with the corkscrewing behavior described by the OP. I would think it certainly validates the need for the test to rule it out of his collection. It would certainly make me think twice before buying from him. Aside from the fact he sent her a half-starved baby boa.
