I took a break from washing gecko tubs in the basement to let the dogs out, grab a pop, and back the car out of the garage so that I could move some stuff out there. I had just turned the faucet back on in the basement when I started hearing what I thought was the puppy slamming his playpen up and down on the floor. All of the sudden, the sound increased to a rate that was way to fast for any dog to create. It sounded like there were 2,395 washing machines running upstairs and they were all off-kilter and dancing across the floor. I ran upstairs but stopped at the top because I had no idea what the heck was making this deafening noise. It sounded as if my house was being pelted by thousands of soup cans. Then I thought, "oh no... Hail."
Realizing that I had just backed my car out of the garage, I went and opened the garage door to see what the heck was going on. The noise was even louder than before. As soon as the garage door rose, I saw huge chunks of ice smashing against the driveway. I couldn't believe how fast it was coming down. The biggest hail I have ever seen in person was no larger than a pea. Some of this stuff was as big as a tennis ball.
I wanted in the worst way to jump in my car and pull it into the garage, but I knew that if this
hit me in the head, it would have either knocked me out, or split my skull open. So I just watched helplessly as the hail came down, smashing the crap out of my car for what must have been a good five minutes.
I didn't even think to get the camera while it was still coming down, so this photo was taken about 20-30 minutes after it stopped. Anyway, I pulled my car into the garage to survey the damage. Every side and surface of it has pretty serious dents. That kinda sucks. But, it's just a car. I just can't believe what a close call it was--I had the dogs outside no less than five minutes before it started. They could've been killed if one of the big chunks hit them on the head.
Hail sucks. Welcome to Summer, I guess.
