In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

That's IT - I'm DONE

2 more dead tonight.
Way too many losses.
Each clutch had at least one die (this one had 3 die now).
That's it! I'm done with this! This season has done it for me! It's not fun anymore!

One looks badly kinked. Is there something going on with temps..? Or have you been using pest strips..? Or has your neighbor been spraying their lawn..? Maybe try to narrow down whats going on because that does seem like a lot of losses for it to be random chance. Thats what I would do anyways.

Yea I agree, it has to be an incubation issue. Something must be wrong. This sucks man, I feel for you!

I would find out what's going on with your bator.

im sorry to hear that...........you have lost quite a few babies this year it sucks :( there has to be something else up

seems everyone is having a messed up season :( im sorry Steve.

I 100% agree........this year has been unpredictable and harsh on a lot of people I have noticed (reading threads on here) even I lost 2 babies :(

was this one of your dinker clutches steve???

Steve, I know you are better than that :)! You can not give up. Take a few days to cool down, think things through, and figure this out. I KNOW you can do it....

You have many people here that would do anything they could to help. Advice, idea's, or even just lending an ear to listen. Moral support, and I think you have alot of that :)

Keep your chin up~ So sorry for your losses! We do not want to lose you too.....:/

I agree with every post above. Hang in there. Had it happen to me last year. This year has just been awesome.

Steve, I hope you decide to stick it out. There's a lot of people that would love to see you stay in the ball python world. And if you decide to get out I'll look out for your ads, I'm not trying to be insensitive but if you truly want out I know you work with a lot of awesome animals.

I thoguht you put there very well actually.

I know it's been very hard on you this year, Steve, but PLEASE don't give up. If it weren't for you, we wouldn't have one very awesome clutch of eggs getting ready to hatch right now.

Damn Steve, really sorry for the losses you've had this season. I hope you reconsider getting out of it. I'm sure you'll figure out what the common denominator is with these, fix it, and you'll be back in fine form.

The only thing I can think of is it is the incubator I am using this year.
I switched from hovabators this year to hold more clutches and all hell broke loose. Kinked dead babies, dead masses of blobs in the eggs, premies coming out and dying......
I should have stuck with the hovabators. They don't hold many eggs but when you take out the wafer and let them run wide open controlled by a herpstat and run a remote probe to monitor the humidity, they are awesome.

Sounds like you already have it figured out, just re-evaluate your incubator set up and be ready to try again next year. You may have the best year of your life next year since you had a crappy one this year!!

This year has been rough for a lot of people. I'm really sorry about your losses and hope you don't throw in the towel.

Yeah, I'm having a terrible year, despite hatching some nice babies. I've had deformities and then 3 super cinnys out of 6 eggs... all died in the egg.

So I feel you. I felt exactly the same way when I found the dead supers. Ready to give it all up and get out. After talking to a few other herpers, I'm trying to be hopeful for next season. You're way too good to give up, I hope.

I also had the worst year ever. I put new heat mats in the incubator since the old one was getting nasty looking. I lost most of the eggs, babies kinked, babies dying fully formed in egg. I really really needed this year to go well. Drat!!

Steve, I don't know what you're using for your incubator, but it could be the case that some older fridge/freezers have a less than friendly plastic or foam insulation that gives off some fumes when heated (by the heat tape). Is there a strong chemical or plastic smell in there?

My converted freezer had a plastic smell to it, and I'm pretty dang anal when it comes to these guys. So just to be sure, I threw an activated carbon filter with 3 pounds of active carbon into my incubator. There is absolutely no smell in there anymore.

Hope that helps,

Jon
