• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

According to Wiki - In the year 223 Roman Emperor Alexander Severus marries Sallustia Orbiana, and possibly raises her father Seius Sallustius to the rank of caesar. He divorced and exiled her in 227, after her fatherwas executed for attempting to assassinate the emperor.

Also the first Christian paintings appear in Rome, decorating the Catacombs.

Interesting factoids about Emperor Alexander - As Emperor, Alexander's peace time reign was prosperous. In military conflict against the rising Sassanid Empire, there are mixed accounts, though the Sassanid threat was checked. However, when campaigning against Germanic tribes of Germania, Alexander Severus apparently alienated his legions by trying diplomacy and bribery, and they assassinated him in 235AD.

WELL CRUD - just made this entire post and then realize we are already at 225! oh well

so here's a factoid about 225 - A Scrabble board has 225 squares

The 228 Incident, also known as the 228 Massacre, was an anti-government uprising in Taiwan that began on February 27, 1947 and was violently suppressed by the Kuomintang (KMT) government. Estimates of the number of deaths vary from ten thousand to thirty thousand or more. The Incident marked the beginning of the Kuomintang's White Terror period in Taiwan, in which thousands more Taiwanese vanished, were killed, or imprisoned.

How to Wire a 240 Volt Circuit

Wiring a 240-volt circuit is a simple matter if you know a few basic steps and take some precautions for safety. A basic understanding of electricity is helpful.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Double-pole circuit breaker
  • Two wires with ground electrical wire cable
  • Safety glasses
  • Wire pliers
  • Wire strippers
  • Volt-ohm meter
  • Screwdrivers, Phillips and slotted
  • Plastic wire nuts
  • Black vinyl electrical tape

  1. Place those safety glasses over your eyes before you attempt any electrical work. Before you remove the cover that protects you and the circuits on your circuit breaker box, remove or disconnect all power to that box. This can be accomplished by the main breaker below your electric meter, or there may be a main breaker at the top of the circuit box you are working on.
  2. Remove the screws that are holding the cover in place and set them in a safe place where you will not lose them. Take your volt-ohm meter and turn it to the voltage position to check that the main power is off. You can place the leads one each to each of the main bus bars that are running down the center of the box. The meter should read 0. To wire a 240-volt circuit, you must have a double-pole circuit breaker. This breaker takes power from both of the main bus bars. Each bus bar measured to ground will provide 120 volts, so both bus bars will provide 240 volts.
  3. Install the breaker as per the manufacturer's instructions. Some breakers are a simple "snap in place," while others may need two installation screws to hold onto the main bus bars. Once you have the breaker in place, strip back the main conductor wires approximately 1 inch. For most applications, this may be a black-and-white wire with a bare copper in the middle of the electrical wire cable. Screw the wires into the circuit breaker's termination holes and tighten firmly--one wire to one screw termination. The bare copper wire will be connected to the grounding termination strip mounted to the back of the breaker box. This strip is generally located to the side of the bus bars.
  4. Wire the device you want to operate from the 240-volt circuit. Strip all wire back approximately 1 inch from the end. Take one pair of wires, one from the new power source and the other from the device, and twist together using the wire pliers in a clockwise motion. Twist, again in a clockwise motion, a plastic wire nut over this connection and wrap with a couple rounds of electrical tape for extra protection. Repeat with the other pair of wires and the grounding wire. Reinstall the cover on the circuit breaker box and switch back on the main power
