In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Matter of fact, I may even then assign (or "draft" if you prefer) ALL Benefactor and Endowment level members to being forum moderators and turn back on the "Report a Post" function, so THEY will get the notifications of infractions within "their" forums that members feel they need to report. So as "someone" has suggested, I am going to delegate this sort of thing as much as possible. And as such abdicating my responsibility for that function by turning it over to those individuals who demonstrate that they WANT it.
Welcome to the only site on the internet where you can contribute the bucks out of the goodness of your heart (or because you expected this to be a site that would be moderated) only to be forced to be moderator .

Wow... just wow.

Go for it mods, I'll take my points.. that's just fucked up.

It seems like rich is saying that he's tired of all the problems

With HIS site.

It seem like rich is saying that he doesn't want the responsibility that comes

With HIS site

It seems like he would rather get even with people for some imagined slight

On HIS site

It seems like rich is giving up

On HIS site

I don't get it myself. I mean I can see teaching someone a lesson, letting them walk a mile in my shoes, getting a taste of what I get, but what does this serve?

Who is learning what? Why? What is the gain to fauna?

I don't get it.

It's HIS site and yet he complains about it all the time. This won't fix what's broke but it may well brake what's working.

How is this better than picking a few new Mods? Other than rich being able to say, "I didn't pick them," which he did in fact do by starting this fiasco, what is the benefit to rich?

Oh well, I'll be watching with great curiosity.

Okay folks - I have a plan.

Every member here under the level of Benefactor should send me $100.00.

In exchange I will schedule you to work one day at my job.

I still get to collect my normal salary though and transportation costs are your responsibility.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to you doing my work.

Excuse me?
I didn't sign up for any draft!
Sure you did, that's what the money was for!!!! :)

Doesn't matter, because he doesn't care! I forgot to quote that part...

Aren't you just sooooooooo proud to be a contributing member of such a great site?

For only $100.00 YOU TOO can be forced to bear the work that others are willing to take on but can't because they didn't pay enough or any money. Funny how all the site owners have been running sites wrong for so many years; I wonder how long it will take them to say, "Wow, I coulda had a V-8!" ?

This site would have been much better off being sold for the 1000.00 to someone who might actually care and make it what it once was. The end goal is clear, though.. it's like a psychotic person killing their ex because they don't want anyone else to 'have' him/her.

Not only do we have that, but we have the preliminary seed planted so when the drafted mods don't participate, there will be room to say, "I implemented the peer warning system for the site and it didn't get used; I'm always doing something for you, the members, and you are ungrateful and don't appreciate any of it!" or "Won't be the first time I've added something to the site that didn't get used."

Bravo, bravo!

Do Benefactor and Endowment level members that don't want the prestigious job of "moderator" get their money back from supporting Rich's site?

I don't want any money back. I didn't give the money because I wanted something for it. I gave it because I felt like I was getting something for it already. The moment when all that happened was a very emotional time for me, worse than usual, and the money was given to support a site where people who supported me through the emotional crises congregated. People who supported me despite my verbal attacks to the site at the same time.

~ and the evidence of that little mental breakdown of mine alone should be proof enough that I should not be in charge of anybody! That was an extreme example~ but for approx 3 weeks of every month I am a perfectly reasonable human being (yes, I said perfectly reasonable and it is entirely too close to the one week for you to argue with me! So shut up and listen~ Like I said~ perfectly reasonable human being 3/4 of the time!) But for approx 1 week of every month I'm a rabid, raving lunatic who can't seem to control my temper or sense of humour (some of that stuff WAS funny) and even I don't know what I'm gonna do or why I did it later (during that 3 week apology time later).

There is a REASON I do not work with human beings anymore. They amuse me......but often it appears what I consider "Funny" during that one week a month is considered a bit warped the other three weeks!

Man, you guys REALLY crack me up............

Your not really planning on turning me into a mod are you?
I know me well enough to know that would be a bad idea.......thats why I've never volunteered. You've known me through online forums for over 5 years now.......you may not have noticed me often~ but you must at least know me well enough to know as well as I do that my temper and sense of humour is not suited to working with people.

Heck, I don't know, maybe that would be a good thing around here..... :D

He's not MAKING anyone anything.

He's just saying that if you don't do it, it's on you; that he gave you the opportunity to make what you want of the site and don't blame him if you can't do what he won't do.

That's all.

You're still safe Cheryl.

Those unwanted "Report a Post" notices... would they be SPAM? ;)

Depends on the context of how they are used. Of course, choosing unwisely to label them spam and ding the issuer COULD possibly be labeled as abuse of the warning system too....... ;)

If you dont want to be a part of the system. Dont use it. Just because it is there for you to be able to use. does not mean you have to use it.

Wow, Alicia! That is WAY too logical of a thought here......

Yeah, like I am going to DRAFT someone to be a moderator, with all those implicit privileges, if they positively do NOT want to do it.......

But I think it would be an eye opening experience for everyone to have sometime or another. How would you like to have yourself and your family get death threats from some of the less savory members who have passed through here? Lots of fun, eh? And I have lost count many moons ago of all the lawsuit threats I have received for my efforts. So I certainly can't understand why anyone WOULDN'T want to be a moderator here....

What she said.

I didn't like the idea because it seemed far too open to abuse, or as if it might be used by many members as an alternative to the karma system, with people who don't agree with an underlying message in a post finding some way to punish it, rather than just flag it as being disagreeable.

The number of members that will have the ability to use it though, it's not going to explode... it's not even going to burn a little bit. It's essentially a non-existant waste of Rich's money and his programmer's efforts. Not many, if any people are going to pony up one hundred dollars for this ability if they weren't inclined to do so to begin with, I know I'm sure as hell not going to throw away a nice night out or a good chunk of grocery money just to punish someone who wrote a post that had naughty language in it.

I think I'm often seen as being someone who posts in a negative manner. I point out why something is wrong or why something won't work or why someone is an idiot or why some practice is detrimental... rarely do I go posting about kittens and rainbows and I believe that many of the more frequent fauna users probably recognize my tendency to jump on anything I can criticize. Now this is me telling some of you that you're coming across like negative bastards with a grudge in the way this is being attacked and some of the points people are trying to present as arguments against it.

Rich: Here's an admission of my lack of desire to keep being beaten up for this website. There is a potential alternative that might result in higher standards of moderation- allow me to explain the hypothetical.

Everyone: Oh no! No! No! No! It's too easily abused! I called someone a name two years ago/two months ago/two weeks ago/two days ago/two hours ago and I don't want to be banned for it! The system is broken! It'll result in nothing good!

Rich: You're right, mob mentality, it won't work well if it's open to that kind of abuse. I need to put in some kind of failsafe to ensure that a reasonable effort has been made to differentiate between members who are invested in the success of the site and those who are not. Post number doesn't work since those can be inflated too quickly and easily by a determined individual. Length of membership doesn't work since multiple logins and dormant accounts exist. Membership levels might work, but twenty five dollars is low enough where determined and angry individuals might abuse it anyway as being a minimal loss. Guess I'll need to set it at the next contributor breakpoint.

Everyone: That doesn't let me assign points! I meant it needs to have a failsafe against abuse that coincidentally still gives me full access! Also, you can't make me moderate your site! if the tool is there, I'll mindlessly be forced to utilize it, I have no free will of my own! Waaaaaagh!

Seamus: Man... this is getting stupid. These people sure do like to argue way more than can possibly be healthy.

I support this site, as well as call it home. Yes I do visit other sites, but this is home.

If Rich needs help here, he knows he has my support. If it means paying $100.00 to support as well as help, than so be it. Also I will be a part of the warning system if he thinks it is needed.

This site is Rich's, he gave us a invite. If he says he needs help with running a site that has over 35,000 members, than I understand. I can not see giving him all of the slack over his decision, unless you think four people can keep up with all of these members posts, I think not.
