In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

This is disgusting

Here are the e-mails he sent me when I e-mailed him about his animals and when he read what I wrote here on the BOI.

Well actually when I emailed Masterpiece Geckos, they said you didn't have permission and were going to get you to stop.So I think I'll stick by what they told me.
                                               Josh Duncan

Ok he keeps saying he has permission so heres the email I got.
Hello Josh,

Thanks for getting back to us and letting us know our picture is being used by someone else.  We don't know what to say, this kid has terrible leos but keeps advertising.  We are just going to have to tell him to remove it completely.  By the way, no hard feelings about the gecko we had on hold for you.  We tried to get back to you before we eventually sold her.  It was nice hearing from you again and if you ever have any questions feel free to contact us in the future.

Thanks for looking out,
Monica and Charles

Arggh here is my name.
                        Josh Duncan

So as you can see unless they changed their mind since then he doesn't have permission.
                            Josh Duncan

you know, I was the first to jump on this kid, then everyone decided to try and be nice.

I've emailed him a couple of times given him some pointers, etc....at first he was less than charming, then warmed up to suggestions....who knows if he has actually taken them to heart.

Masterpiece Geckos gave him permission to use the photo...I emailed Monica myself to make sure she was aware of it a couple weeks ago.

This is why none of us should be selling/trading/giving away animals to kids without written consent from a parent, or speaking to them over the phone - period. If the parent wants to get involved with their child's fascination with reptiles, more power to them. I sold a pair of snakes earlier this year and had communication from both the father and son which I thought was great.

here was her reply to me

Thank you soo much for noticing and notifying us we greatly appreciate it.
The person who made that add did notify us and ask for permision to use a
picture he had found on an add we placed, so he could use it on his website
(after he had already used it).  I had given him permission as long as he
gave the picture proper credit and didn't false advertise.  However I didnt
see the add he posted on fauna until now.  To me that kind of looks like hes
trying to sell the gecko that he obviously dosnt have and I don't like it one
bit.  Im going to write to him now and tell him that he doesn't have
permission to post that picture on any adds.
Thank you again for looking out,

I have contacted this person and requested that he remove the use of that photograph within the messages he has posted to my site.  I haven't looked, but if they are attachments, I will have to remove them myself as he cannot just change the photograph itself that the link would point to if he used a linking IMG SRC.

I have also advised him to take due care of the kind of messages he posts as well as the appropriate forums they are being posted on.

Thanks.

Ok he said he didn't want a savannah and wasn't asking for one.I thought I might have been wrong..nope here is his ad from Wanted:monitors

I guess we e-mailed him at about the same time.....I told him something along those lines.

We did give him permission to use our picture as long as he gave us full credit and did not use it for any form of false advertisement.  We were e-mail by a few of you concerning his advertisements on the classifieds and did notice that he failed to give us proper credit for the pic.  We e-mail him and settled the problem immediately.  However, we did not noticed the conditions in which he was keeping his geckos, until recently.  We are a little disappointed that he would place geckos in those conditions for sale.  We understand that he has good intentions and wants to start a small business, but this is definitely not the way to do it.

Lepgex if your reading this here are some words of advise:

A business is not started overnight it takes a lot of time, energy, and experience. Receiving unhealthy free animals is definitely not the way to start.  If  you are really serious about breeding do it the right way, and start working around your house or neighborhood for a little cash inorder to purchase some nice healthy reptiles.  When I was about 14 I started my own car washing service in my neighborhood so that I could get some money for things that I wanted to buy.
Instead of looking for a stranger to become your  partner, why dont you try asking your parents.  Im sure they would be willing to give you a hand in getting you started.
As for our picture you posted on your site, you should try and use a picture of your own.  That way no one confuses you with anyone else.  Inorder to have a successful business of any kind you have to be unique, honest, resposible, and experienced.  Try having a leopard or two as a pet before deciding to go selling them.

We would like to thank all of you who showed concern regarding the use of our picture in this matter, we truly appreciate it.

Hi,
Kudos to you two at "Masterpiece Geckos"!!   Hopefully he'll get something out of what you guys said.  We can all hope his parents get involved become a part of his hobby.  We've all seen too many young people get started the wrong way and ruin it for themselves. If you don't mind, what you've said is well worth repeating!

Can you post that in an actual language?  If you are 21, I would sincerely hope you can at least spell.  This thread has been interesting reading, and I have no need to post here, but I think you should contact your grade school teachers and ask why they could not have done better.

I would have to agree with you Jeff from everything i've read things don't look to good and please try harder to spell if your 14 you shouldn't have a problem with it.

Okay, I'm gonna sound exactly like what I am, someones Mother.  Is any one else REALLY bothered that this 14 year old boy is BEGGING for an adult stranger to partner with him, has access and ablility to do all this begging for free reptiles, is giving out personal info such as his name and address....so on and so forth?!?  Where are the ADULTS that are supposedly this MINORS GARDIANS!!!

Since your parents seem to be uninterested I'd like for you to KNOW you are treading on dangerous ground young man.  Have you ever heard of Internet pradators?!?  And your BEGGING for an adult to partner up with you, admitting you are 14, obviously sharing your address in order to recieve shipments of reptiles......DO YOU REALIZE HOW dangerous this all could be!!  READ THE NEWS!!  There is a new story every day about the dangers of sharing info like this with strangers!!

I have a 13 year old son, and no way, no how is he EVER going to be playing with fire like this, I'd like to beleive he is smart enough and wary enough not to even try!  Please, at least start keeping your personal info personal, and do as suggested, partner up with your parents in this venture, get them involved.

Very good point.I hadn't even thought of that.I guess cause my kids are still too young for me to worry about internet predators.I sometimes forget how many twisted sickos are around.

Hi there,

I have to agree..it is very dangerous to be soliciting an unknown adult for a partner. I do have one suggestion though...since you are 14 why not offer to volunteer at a pet store or the rescue in your area. In return you will learn alot and learn the ways of the breeding business. You might even find out how much work it actually is. You will also have the oppurtunity to learn the husbandry end of it ...so that when and if you do decide to do it you will have a much better chance at it.

I have a fourteen year old daughter, and if I EVER caught her giving out info like that or asking for an adult to enter into a relationship (business or otherwise) with her . . .well, it would be a bad time at the ol'e Chappell house for certain!  Then again, my daughter knows that, and so she wouldn't even attempt such.  I think it's a shame that this kid's folks (if he really is a kid) are so disengaged that they either don't know or don't care about what's going on in their own home.

Of course, my daughter can spell too.  Maybe that's because I make her do her homework and study her books before she can cruise the net for business partners!

Wow, I guess it takes all kinds...

When I was 14, I had a lifetime of chasing critters around up in the hills, and I would not want to take away the passion for reptiles from any youngsters out there.

That being said, this kid makes me absolutely furious.  Furious with our school system, furious with our society, furious with the internet...  You get the picture.  That this kid can't spell, write, or probably even speak is simply apalling, and I see it online all of the time.  I took great PRIDE in being a straight
A student when I was that age. There is no way that I would ever allow myself to write like that.  That his "parents" have allowed him to access a computer and to buy and sell herps is disturbing.  Shipping animals is no small deal.  It's not very hard, but it's nice to do it RIGHT.  I have no faith in this kid to do it RIGHT.

To tag on to MP Geckos' post, turning this hobby into a business is not easy.  It takes space, time, and MONEY.  If you're begging for freebies, stating that you cannot afford a $15 monitor but can afford the HUNDREDS of dollars of supplies required for such a beast, something is just not ringing right.  And are we sure that this kid is not related to Stan Whitt, that second gecko looks DEAD to me.  If not, is is so severely dehydrated that it will be soon.  What a shame.

And, possibly the most alarming thing:

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">if you dont find what you are looking for our you are intrested in a diferent herp i can get most any thing your heart desiers
</td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'>

God save us all!!!

Don't lose the passion for wildlife, but try to get perspective on life, first.  Focus on your education and your immediate future, it's obvious that you need to!
