    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Time to evaluate the issue of replies in the classified ad sections.

Has the "no reply" policy in classified ads helped or hindered?

  • Yes. Re-enable all replies to the classifieds sections.

I would really appreciate it if you could reinstate POST REPLIES to the forum. I'm wanting certain things off this website and can't get them unless people reply to my messages and the only way they can do that is if post replies get reinstated. I strongly feel that without replies to this forum, this forum stinks and was a waste of my time to apply if all I get are no answers. So please reconsider and reinstate post replies, otherwise I may look to quit as your customer. I already quit 1 business who failed to serve me, and I don't want to quit another. So I strongly urge you to reinstate post replies for this reason. Thanks and think about it.

How are you a customer?

Why are you unable to PM or email sellers?
 
I'm a customer who is trying to make a frog collection of some of the most popular breeds, and to do that I need every1's cooperation including this forum because I want to make my dreams come true.

And I can not e-mail sellers cause I don't have their e-mail addresses, I feel it would be a lot easier if I could just contact them here. Please give it some more thought. Thanks and good talking to you

So, explain to me why you cannot private message other parties here on this site, please.

And secondly, no, you are not a customer of mine. And as best I can tell, you never have been. So, sorry about that, but that card won't work for you.

So, just out of curiosity, what other sites that you frequent with the traffic that this site has allows replies to classified ads? I would like to see how they handle the issues we had here with rampant bumping and problematical posts made on classified ad threads.
 
I initially voted "change it" because it does seem counter-intuitive to non-paid users, but after your change to the error message, I'm switching my vote to leave it as-is. Only suggestion I might add on top of that is linking to the 'paid membership' page in the error message itself.

not sure if you are aware, but at the bottom of the ads is the 'contact seller' button, looks like this:

which will open up the private message function. Also by selecting the user's name a drop down menu appears which will also allow you to contact them, that function will allow you to send them a private message and if they have allowed it, send them an email as well. I hope that helps!

I've tried that, but still I'm not getting any responses to my messages. Often times I feel this forum is dead or it may be going out of service. p.m. doesn't stand for past morning; it's post meridiem...online, it generally means private message (as previously indicated).

I'm not sure how to interpret your statement that you have sent 44 PMs and neither one was responsive - your wording almost makes it sound as if all those messages were to two people. If you have sent that many messages without getting a response, I'd guess that you are doing something wrong...whether it be not submitting the message, or something in the content making the recipient not want to respond.
Figuring that out is largely irrelevant to this thread, however; so if you would like to pursue that, please create a separate thread within this same forum.

Check the dates on the ads as well as the profile of the member you are contacting. A lot of people are no longer in the business, so you just may be contacting someone about a very old ad, or even someone who just doesn't frequent this site any longer.

To be perfectly honest, I severely doubt your claim about the 44 PMs with only a single reply.
 
I just deleted the messages that No1 was responding to. So now I'm back down to 34. But I'm still waiting for answers, technically your the only 1 who is answering, and I appreciate that. I just whish every1 on this page was more like you. Anyway Thanks.

If you actually sent that many messages to ads offering currently available animals and are not getting any responses, the problem is you.
 
Only Benefit i see to allowing non paying members to post in ads, is for when sellers Inbox is full and need to contact member via posting in their sales ad. As well as posting BOI threads in the ad as well to alert others.
 
Why can't you just make it so that we can all reply to the For Sale ads, but it just won't cause the ad to be bumped to the top for anyone? Simple solution? You stay in line when your ad was created. Need a new programmer to do that?

That would involve basically gutting the entire forums software, and just for that section. Forum software is pretty much BASED on the concept of 'a reply bumps a thread to the top so people can see there is new activity'. It's not that simple at all.

I presume that YOU are a programmer and also familiar with the way that vBulletin operates since you seem to feel it is simple to do. My programmer is one of the best vBulletin programmers in the world. When he suggests something to me, I pay attention. But heck, if you know more about this stuff than he does, then please, by all means enlighten me.
