    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Sure, market value minus the cost to feed and house them since she stopped communicating. She sent 6 snakes at $100 each, $600 … she never exactly said what she wanted in return, except a few different types. By my reckoning, she may have $300-$400 left (IDK the upkeep of garters), the longer this persists, the more she is out.

I am not sure about those numbers for the costs to feed and house. Back when I kept garters as a child, they did not cost me that much to feed (or house unless I was buying an entirely new caging setup).

Inflation is rough.

So it probably won't be that much to house & feed, but my point remains the same - Tommy should keep track of food and housing costs (the space he could be using for other snakes) while all this is in limbo. It's not fair to Tommy to keep snakes he could be selling because she is being difficult.

I see it as he was already going to be receiving them according to the never-quite-fully-defined deal on the matter (their arrival at his place was not unplanned). The OP flipped out and left him holding the animals (that he would have been caring for anyway since he agreed to receive them) with no defined path forward after that dramatic episode. He could send them back, but putting the animals at risk thanks to a communication stonewall from the OP is something I would not expect to be the caring response. Since he has something of "hers" of value and she did not receive anything (despite that being due to her own actions at this point), he could very directly "balance the scales" (no pun intended) at least in terms of the animals' combined value if he simply sent her the amount for them as if he were selling them himself (as a personal cheque so he knows if it is ever even deposited by virtue of the withdrawal from his account if/when it happens). He could also send them back, but with the communications involved or lack thereof, the animals could perish if messages/calls/whatever are ignored. I would think the payment as outlined would be the easiest way to bring things back to equal (when it comes to the monetary value involved). He had already agreed to receive them and that would require identical care, so the cost-of-standard-care aspect of things does not come into play for me in terms of diminishing the payment (fair value for the animals plus the shipping cost for them to reach him). At that point, I would say everything reasonably possible without compromising the safety of the animals would have been tried by Tommy and nobody would owe anybody anything more (except perhaps him being owed an apology for the lambasting instead of calm communication). He could then sell them freely if he so chose. Wipes that piece away. The reputation bashing that very, very much backfired is a separate matter (to me).

The snakes she sent him he was supposed to get, he was then supposed to send her other snakes for the ones she sent. Those are "her" snakes he's taking care of because shes not responding. The garters sent to him aren't her snakes anymore it's the ones he was going to send in return is what's being discussed about housing and feeding.

He would house and feed either set of snakes anyway if not yet sending or selling them. If he sends her the value for the snakes she sent, there is no risk to safety and he has no further financial ties to this problem.

Let's consider the outdated price list here:

If I remember correctly, most of the babies are yellow.

Adjusting for the 2 or more year difference, let's say $10 a year, $65 a baby, totals $390. As she is not communicating with Tommy; she cannot dispute the amount.

The only way he'd know if she accepts it is if she cashes his check.

I definitely would send it certified, that way he would know that she received it.

Seems within reason to me (possibly plus the shipping, but I would have to go back to verify and, at this point, my attentions are being divided). Would be something for Tommy to consider. He does not have to accept this idea, but it would help to make things square.

they eat daily for the first 2 months then every other day until they are about 5 months old then every 3 days. one of them died 5 days after i got them too

those prices were for last year when scott left (june2015) i bought 2 pairs from him in may 2015 both females were gravid

I agree.

Tommy is a good guy. He wants to make it right, but it's hard when she wont contact him.

I wouldn't drive 5hrs either.

Maybe Tommy could send a certified letter or something, notifying her she can accept some amount of money or forfeit her claims to any snakes. She could drag this out for awhile. I wouldn't blame Tommy for wanting to be done with her (although so far Tommy, you've demonstrated great patience!)
