In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

On 6-22-05 I received an E-mail from Tony promoting his upcoming Carolina Reptile and Exotic Animal Show. Later that evening, I received another e-mail from him advertizing the show with the same foolish pic of whom I am presuming to be him holding a big King Cobra. I had never contacted Tony for anything before, and do not like being put on mailing lists, so I sent him an e-mail with this simple request.

Please remove me from your list at once.

Thank you for your cooperation.

James Wilson

Not long after that Tony responded with an e-mail containing one word...

DONE

Now can anyone tell me why I am (as of 7-6-2005) still getting the same lame e-mails promoting his shows? How hard is it to just take me off his list and leave me off. It was a simple request, and he seems to think that just lying about taking me off his list is ok. It is not. Maybe this does not belong here, but I am tired of spammers.

James.... How old are you.... 12 ????.... Big deal, you got an email you didn't expect and didn't ask for.... boo hoo hoo.... ya see that little button up there that says, "delete"???.... Try hitting that once.... GROW UP, and stop trying to create problems with something so minor.... what a big baby you are....
Tony has a LOT more things to do than worry about some snivveling little kid who wants his email removed.... poor baby.... I have never seen so many whiners on one site in my life!!

Neil

Neil I get enough spam from idiots wanting me to give them my paypal password, wanting to help me grow a penis, and wanting to give me a mortgage on my house. To have someone in the reptile community sending out spam would infuriate me, and I feel it is a legitamate complaint. You might not mind deleting spam, but even spammers mothers don't care for them! It's an evil scourge on society, and anyone who does it should be ashamed of themselves.

I'm just glad I don't get the same spam, but I'm sure there will come a day!

Neil, I am 38 (which has absoluetly nothing to do with anything here), and you being a known lier yourself (that has been outted in the past) it does not surprise me for one second that you would respond the way that you have. Your response is very ironic in that it makes you sound like a Immature jackass. I would suggest that you read your childish dribble and take your own adviceand Grow up yourseld. It really would serve you well to just that.

"I have never seen so many whiners on one site in my life!!" Neil

By the way neil, no one said you had to come here and read it. If you don't like it just push one button and move on. Sound familiar? If not, how about this... Have you ever heard the term hypocrite before? Look it up, I know it is a big word for you.

Spam can be annoying no question about it, but this is hardly a BOI issue James. Maybe a moderator can move it to Sound Off or another more approriate forum.

As a suggestion, add his e-mail to the "auto delete" feature in your e-mail client and you'll be done with him. I imagine he is using a consistent, real e-mail address as opposed to true spammers who use multiple fake ones.

Last year

we took a trip to the FIRE show in Orlando, took advantage of some of Tonys advertised specials for Disney World etc... We had a little trouble with credit card charges and it took several phone calls for Tony to "fix" the problem but he did fix it. Tony is a good guy, I think with his show about to start he is probably feeling pretty overwelmed right now. I think the logistics of running a large 2 day show with entertainment, speakers, prizes etc.. can be quite a task.

Actually, Tony no longer owns the FIRE Show. He sold it to local promoters earlier this year. I believe part of the agreement was that he would be incolved with this years show. In any event, Tony is a good guy. I do know however that he is not very computer savvy.

In all honesty James, it sounds like an honest mistake that you were not removed from the mailing list

since when SPAM is a topic in this forum???

Enable Junk Email in Outlook or create a rule to delete these emails using whatever email system you use. I don't think this type of post belongs here. but that's my .02

Casey, This is a one day show, and this is not a situation where he said he will fix it, but rather a situation where he said it was already "done". It was not. I also mention that I brought this to his attention with no response from him. Here is the e-mail:

Tony, back on 6-22 I asked you to remove me from your list. You replied with with "done". Apparently, that is not the case as I am still getting your e-mails.

So basically due to HIS lack of a response, I am left to conclude that this situation really does not warrant any real concern on his part. Good guys do what they say, and a good guy would have addressed this. If he is a good guy, then he must have had a couple of off days, and that would have been fine. Had he just adressed the issue, I would have never brought it here.

And, yes, my devonomized friend, spam has been discussed here in the past when it involves a person in the herp community. However, your opionion is more than welcome. Thank you.

Hi James! I would be glad to help you out.

Tony Cueto:

I have always loved your shows in Tampa, and I always have a great time there. Please stop trying to invite James to your shows.

Thanks Much! Bruce

Thanks Bruce, and I think it is great that you like Tony.
I would guess he is quite well liked (especially in the southeast), and I really do appreciate your approach in showing him your support and loyalty while still acknowledging the situation at hand as opposed to someone like Neil's approach. Just uncalled for in my opinion.

Note to James Wilson: No, that's not Tony holding the King Cobra. Have you not heard of Roark Ferguson? AKA- Big Snake Daddy. He's an educator, speaker, and showman extraordinaire!

No, I have never heard of of him. I guess am not really into the whole showman aspect of the hobby (just not my cup of tea). Anyway, thanks for the tip. I appreciate it.

I should also that I have not received anymore e-mail advertisments for Tony's show, but then again the show was on the 16th of July. Either way, Thank you.

I go to a number of Tony's shows and can say that he does seem to try to do what he can to make people happy. Most problems seem to stem from somewhat of a lack of organization at times, but then, I can't imagine what it would take to organize all of the aspects of putting on a bunch of shows each year!

My guess is that he did something to fix it, or directed somebody else to do it. If it didn't work for some reason, he may have gotten overwhelmed by other projects and put it further down the list of priorities. Of course, I can't speak for Tony - I am just going by what sometimes happens to me in my little one-person business when I get overwhelmed at times.

Of course it is not an excuse and the problem has to be rectified. But I don't think Tony would intentionally send email to those who don't want it, unlike real spammers. So if he is not able to fix it, you may just have put him in your ignore file. Try not to harbor bad feelings as I think he tries hard to be a "good guy".

I am fine. I have no "bad" feelings toward Tony. That is the only interaction that I have ever had with him, and it was not a very good first impression. I am sure he is a great guy, but from my position at that time He was not. I really dislike spammers, and if I ask to be removed from any list, I expect it to be done. Was there some sort of mistake? I do not know, probly was, but at the time, that was not on my mind. I am still trying to figure out how I ended up on his mailing list in the first place...

"He's really made a name for himself in the reptile business. His website is :
http://www.reptilesafari.org/
Check him out."

Like I said, I am not interested and unimpressed with the whole "showman" thing. I think your plug/advertisement might be a violation of terms here, and I would not be surprised if it gets removed. Anyway, thanks for letting me know who the person in the pic actually is.
