Anyone good at writing up contacts? I need some help putting one together.

Basically the terms of the trade, per him and I have agreed is that I take his male pastel ball python, bell line. It will be a trade for a future baby cinnimon or mojave babie(my mojave will be breedable next season, not this season). If it is not produced in 2 years, he gets his pastel back. I, of course, will keep the snake in good condition as I do all my snakes untill then.

Will you be quarantining his snake properly, as apposed to;

Will you also be informing this person that you recently lost a blood python?

You also left so quickly from ball-pythons.net that it seems you never saw my question about whether or not you got that blood a fecal test. Did you?
Was he quarentined?

Personally, if I knew about your lack of quarentine and the death of a recent aquisition I'd pass on a breeder loan.

no offense, but, im going to have to say, that you should leave the snake until you have babies born. many things can happen and you would be responsible for that animal every extra day you have it. Why risk yourself on that ( or that persons snake, or your own) when you could wait on your animals to have babies later on?

I didnt leave bp.net for any particular reason, just that I liked it here better, so no I didnt see your question. No I didnt get a fecal done, I didnt get the opportunity to since he didnt elimanate when I had him. yes, he was quarentined for 2 weeks, the 3rd week he was moved into my snake room. None of my other snakes show anything like him, as in regurging. I didnt get a neo done, I couldnt find a vet that did snakes short of berkley and they're about an hour away from me

I also do two weeks of quarentine with all new snakes, that one pic was a lapse of what I normally do That snake in the pic was also put into quarentine because of it. Luckily she wasnt in the rack with my other snakes at the time.

As for my recent death, the only snakes I've had die on me, which was two in the time I've been owning snakes, both came from EBV and both died in under a month(the last one was over a year ago). My other snakes are eating f/t each weak no problem, no regurgitating, sheding fully each week.

Maybe that blood should have been on loan too.

Judging from your posts , I get the impression that your collection and quarantine area are one in the same. Have you discussed your responsibility if his pastel just so happens to die in your care?

My animal room is in an area of my den, my quarentine room is in my bedroom, they are not even in the same room. They are not in the same room.

If your only doing Q - time for 2 weeks , then why bother? Just save yourself the time and toss them straight into your collection. The average quarantine time is 90 days. I have recently bumped mine to 6 months or longer. Are you so ready to get them rockin and rollin that your willing to chance killing your entire collection? And , OMG , a whole hour drive to get a necropsy done.

I have to drive 1 1/2 hours one way into another state for that but its done. I value my collection enough that I'm willing to do what it takes. Why aren't you?

You need to quarantine for longer than 2weeks.

ETA Bryon said it so much better than I could.

Well two weeks was what my friend told me to do, though if you say thats not long enough, I'll bump it up to 6 months. Luckily I haven introduced anything dirrectly into my collection recently, I'll keep the 7 snakes in quarentine longer. I do plan to get my wc female in to the vet when my job stops messing with my schedual after she lays to get a good dose of parasite meds, though I plan on keeping all my w/c permanently separated from my other snakes

It's been what, 5, 6 days since you put a wild caught female in direct physical contact with a long term animal of yours?

Ok, whatever you say.

Nagini,

I aint trying to give you a hard time but you really need to educate yourself on every aspect of quarantine procedures. It is obviously something you have not researched.

As I said, I put that female into quarentine as well, though thats still no excuse for what I did. I was excited about my new girl, I didnt think that through, I admit it. What I ment is in the same racking system.

I do agree. Do you know any good sources? Threads or books about it?

I would suggest doing your own research instead of listening to this " friend ". There is still alot you need to learn and get in the habit of doing. WC , once treated and put thru proper Q - time , can be added to your collection. Just because they have the moniker of being wc doesn't mean 5 years down the road it'll kill your collection. Judging from your other posts and your responses here , you have alot to read , learn , ask about and put into practice.

Yes, I am still learning, and willing to learn all I can to improve. As for what I say about my w/c, I'd still like to keep them separate as a separate project dispite my plans to treat them. I'd also like to do a routine de-worming for my entire collection once I really get going just to be on the safe side, or wouldnt you recomend that? Would it be to much?

Alisyn, I think I understand you are fairly new to all this. You're moving through different animals pretty quickly and from your above post you don't understand about normal minimum quarantine procedures. If I'm not mistaken you started taking in rescues of different sorts of animals and have been trying to learn as you go. Then selling some of them. Is this correct? I think it is.
What most people are trying to get across is that your not ready to start taking on other peoples animals in a business situation. Certainly not in a breeders role. Have you ever produced a ball python?
You need to do some research on quarantine procedures, care, and really just slow down and learn from others.

Now, it's real easy to start getting a bad reputation by not knowing the basics. Selling misrepresented animals and not responding to questions will put a big warning sign on your name. You have left several unanswered threads hanging out there.
Example - http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104973

Take it slow and learn more about the animals you have now. Ask lots of questions and people will help you. If you just want to flip animals, be up front with people. Jobbers have a role too. But, make sure your honest about it and you know what your selling.

Dennis- Thanks for posting that, I didnt see the replies to that thread. I did finally reply though.

As for slowing down, yeah, thats what I'm going to do. I'm actually selling off most of my other species so that I can focus more on what I care about the most.

1. While two completely separate homes/facilities are best most of us dont have that luxury. So at the very least you need two separate rooms. One for your established critters and one for your new critters. NEVER LET NEW CRITTERS COME IN CONTACT WITH ESTABLISHED CRITTERS.

2. 90 days quarantine minimum. And while I know everyone dont practice the following, I do. Lets say you got an animal in the quarantine room for 2 months and then you bring a new animal into the quarantine room. Now every animal in there is starting over on day one. I dont know for sure what that new animal may have passed on to the ones that were already there so I take no chances.

3. Always do whatever upkeep you are going to do on your established animals first. Water changes, feedings, cleaning.... I dont care what it is. Always do your established animals before you do your quarantine animals. Get all of the work for the day done on established animals first before you mess with the quarantine animals. NEVER do quarantine animals first.

4. Always wash your hands thoroughly before AND after handling any of your animals or doing any type of upkeep with them. Particularly after working with quarantine animals. I dont care if it was just a water change. Wash your hands.

5. If you feed live never return uneaten feeders back into your rodent colony. That is just begging to spread crap all through out your collection. Either euthanize and dispose of the uneaten rodent or set up a rat rodent cage in the quarantine room just for the quarantine animals.

6. You need two of everything. I have separate paper towels, tongs, thermometers, scales, utility tubs, water dishes, hides, etc, etc, etc, for each room. All of them that are meant for the quarantine room have a big ass Q on them in magic marker so I dont get them mixed up.

I am sure I am skipping a couple of things but that right there will get you started in the right direction.
