In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I'm getting a leopard gecko pretty soon, and I will be housing him in a 24"x18"x12" Exo Terra medium-low enclosure. I believe that this is a 22 gallon enclosure, after I did the calculations...? But, I don't know if I should get a small or medium Zoo Med uth, since the size of this enclosure is between 20 and 30 gallons... Does anyone know what size I should get? I'm getting a Herpstat 1 Basic for the temperature control, so if the medium uth was too big, it would probably be able to maintain the heat from getting too high, right?

Thanks in advance for your help.

It won't matter. Go ahead and oversize it so you have some comfort for winter. Two notes on the basic one though.
1. Not sure what animal you have but I'd recommend a humidity control or guage at the least.
2. Make sure to calibrate it.
I've never heard of problems with it standard but I wouldn't want you to be the first either. Especially with me telling you it's ok to oversize the uth lol

Haha, that's okay! Thanks for your help. I agree with you, a bigger uth couldn't hurt. I ended up getting the medium sized one, and the Herpstat 1 instead because I liked the additional built in safety relay function that it comes with. I'll be sure to calibrate it.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I'll be able to hook up both the under tank heater and a humidity control/gauge at the same time to this model of herpstat... it has only one probe outlet, and I'll be using it for temperature. So I'll need to get a separate humidity gauge then... Do you feel that the gecko would be okay with a humidity gauge instead of a humidity controller as long as I am careful with the moisture levels in the humid hide and keep it and the water dish on the cool side of his tank?

Assuming that would be okay, do you have any suggestions for good humidity gauges? I'm leaning towards an Acu-Rite 00611. Also, would I keep this on the cool side or the warm side of the cage?

No you would have to get a separate guage for your cage. As long as you keep your eyes on it, especially while the cage is first set up, you should be ok. The humidity guage typically goes in the middle towards the ground for the best thing. And the acu rite would be fine. Just anything digital really.
