• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

  • IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!! About the Google Adsense ads being displayed

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

UPS, FedEx, Airborne Express, USPS - bad guys.

I'd like to take the opportunity to thank those of you involved in drafting the letter of petition from its conception to its creation.

I am happy to say that i have signed the petition.

I do however have one comment on the gross structure of the petition itself.
My point is minor but in the interest of ideal reprentation for the industry I think it should be noted.
There is a small techincality involving a disagreement of grammar in the following:

Be it also known we are aware that some of the aforementioned shipping companies have provided for some of their clients one or more of the following:

a) A written agreement/waiver for the shipping of Live Harmless Snakes
b) Are being granted a "blind eye" policy towards them using their services
c) Some businesses are allowed to utilize those services as local management exception-based decisions

(A) (B) and (C) do not have equal status as parts of speech.
(A) constitutes a phrase which logically completes the sentence which precedes the lettered sections.

(B) and (C) are independent clauses which presume to stand alone and not as a proper continuation of the sentence stated.

So I propose a small change.
Make (B) and (C) simple phrases (remove the verbs)
perhaps (B) could be re-worded as
" a blind eye policy toward..."

or "the granting of a blind eye toward..."

(C) could proceed likewise:
"an allowance to utilize services...."

In this way the otherwise well-formed letter can be made to conform to higher grammatical standards.

Please take this as a constructive criticism. I fully support this effort and would like very much to see it succeed.

Christian, is it possible to change the text of the petition at this point?

Christian, is it possible to change the text of the petition at this point?

Not at this point in time. The petition as it is cannot be changed on the petition site. However, when the petition is printed for delivery I may be able to edit the lines you requested. This of course will depend upon whether a majority of thise who signed the petition would not be opposed to me correcting a grammatical error.

I suppose I have been out of school too long, as I did not notice said error until you pointed it out! :)

Although I agree with Rob's coments, we should not modify a letter that has already been read and signed.

Just my opinion. :)

Please sign the petition!!!!!!!!

I know that I average over 1400 unique hits per day on my site alone (www.fieldherpers.com), yet only 943 have signed the petition(Sign it here) that I authored along with the users at faunaclassifieds. This petition is a very important step for those who breed, or plan to breed, snakes as a hobby or business.

Basically, the intent of the petition is to get shipping companies to treat harmless snakes the same way they treet other reptiles and amphibians. Did you know you can ship a 4' alligator via the US postal Service, but can't ship a hatchling corn snake?

Although the petition is mainly in regards to snakes, it can be applied to all reptiles and amphibians. If companies are willing to admit that they do not apply the same standards across the board for snakes, then it can be shown that it applies to other herps as well.

I understand the petition is strongly worded, but that is necessary in this day and age in order to garner the actual attention it deserved if it was written a little less controversially.

Please take the time to read and sign the petition. I believe this could be one of the roadblocks to making captive propogation over collection a valid endeavor.

Okay, here is the saddest thing of all....

While every herper/herptoculturist/dealer, etc sits back to wait and see what happens, a petition to put Howard Stern back on the Clear Channel network has garnered 3900+ signatures in less than a week, while our petition, which is of much more value for the individuals who sign it, hasn't broken 1000 yet!

Somehow I think that says alot about society in general, and herpers specifically.

Christian - the lack of cohesion in this industry is rather disheartening, isn't it? You have no idea how many times I have wanted to just throw my hands up in the air and pull the plug on all my sites and just say to hell with this entire industry.

Of course, if the numbers we are seeing are an accurate representation of the people who really care one way or the other about this issue, then this really can't even be considered as an "industry". We are all just a ragbag of hobbyists who are business wannabes who will never make even the tiniest blip on any really big corporations' radar screen. We will always be insignificant to them.

Look at all of the minority groups who have made real progress in getting things done because they decided to stand shoulder to shoulder and stand firmly together in their beliefs and demands. Apparently, this manner of getting things done is completely lost on the majority of people in this *hobby*.

signatures

Kudos to everyone that has been working on this shipping issue!I rarely ship snakes but I do receive them often.

I dont think 981 signatures is too shabby considering this issue is basically being spread by word of mouth, had Webslave not sent out a mass email I probably would not have ever been aware of it. Keep getting the word out and give it some time.

BTW, I think MANY, MANY more people listen to Howard Stern than breed snakes and need to ship them!

UPS - Illiterate Bad Guys

I just really hate UPS. I have a retail pet store. We open at noon but are in the building several hours ahead of that to do the cleaning. I have a sign on the door that says-

UPS - If no answer, leave package at @@@ Store, (side of building).

Twice now I have been inside my store and the driver pulls up, doesn't knock on my door and takes the package straight back to the @@@Store.

Maybe this is trivial but is it so hard to knock on the door? It might be an hour or so before I go outside and see the notice on my door that the package is at the @@@Store.

I frequently see them throw the packages to the front of the truck or out onto the ground. Many packages arrive with crushed corners or other damage.

One driver came in to the shop with a box of reptiles and dropped it from waist height to free his hands to get the signature pad, right in front of me.

Another time the box is clearly marked "this side up" he sits it upside down on my counter.

On the other hand Fed Ex is always careful with the packages and very pleasant to deal with so I think it is great that they will officially allow snakes to be shipped and I am glad that they will be getting the business. I wish all my suppliers shipped Fed Ex!!

Any new developments on this? I might be way behind the 8-ball reviving this thread, but does anyone know if there is any legal channel to start shipping snakes other than Delta (or other airlines)?
