• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

USARK & Reptile Nation Save 5 of 9 species from FWS Constrictor Rule!

I believe we all have a greater responsibility now. The fact that an entire Nation can be subject to such a ban is absurd. I've heard all kinds of stories where people have messed up, not by name, but by activity. Meaning they either got bit, let one go, or worse, got themselves or someone else killed. HOWEVER, when do the bans stop and at what animal. The reality is, a dog, I'll bet any big bred, has caused more deaths and more money than all snakes combined. But he don't hear the government bark about that. I have just one question. Who has the education or knowledge to tell me or someone else where to start to fight the new ban and stop ones to come. We need someone of merit on our side. A movie star, professional athlete, someone in the News to help us get the word out. None of us have the money to fight by ourselves but we do collectively. IF someone can tell me where to begin. How to fight, who we can get on our side, who knows someone with a voice that everyone knows, how do we raise money and go along with USARK, to groups that agree and fight side by side. That way we have a check and balance for our own benefit. Email me with suggestions. I have a full time job and a full time hobby with Burmese. I stand the chance of losing a lot of time and investment. I have seven kids in the mix, I'd rather stand up, fight for my rights and my dreams. I need someone to help me get another association started. I can't stand the thought of not doing what I love! Help me. I need some ideas and I need some with a connection to a "voice"
Thanks Keith

The problem unfortunately, has a lot to do with dealers with no sense of responsibilty beyond making the 'sale' letting people who had no business keeping them - buy them. Far too many times I have been in a store and seen someone new to reptiles being sold a Burm, a Boa, or a Retic without it being explained to them what this can mean when the snake hits adult size, in terms of housing, food and the sheer power of these animals. They didn't want to listen as it might hurt sales. Well, guess what?

has usark said anything yet. all ive really seen so far was them trying to claim a 5 out of 9 victory two days ago. even i want to know what the plan is for now. and i would really like to know how they plan to fight it.

I'm afraid it's a bit too late. Once a law is on the books it's near impossible to remove it; unless you have a huge amount of money and/or public pressure. Frankly, there aren't enough people in this country that care about it to make that happen and the enemy has ANIMAL PLANET to use as a sounding board.

dont lose faith. its being looked into what can be done at least by the people i talk to so, trust me its not over yet

I'd like to here from, as well as see the numbers, from USARK. How much of our money donated, how much spent, and for what purpose. Over the last 5 yrs even.

Is this not something that should be available to us? As well, this is something all that donated should have an interest in.

a user over on iherp gave me the okay to repost this info she got from USFWS:

We have the news release, FAQs and other documents permanently posted on our Invasive Species page athttp://www.fws.gov/invasives/news.html

The final rule itself has not yet published, but is expected to on January 23rd. However, you can view the electronic version online and download the PDF in the Federal Register room.

Use this link:
http://www.archives.gov/federal-register/public-inspection/

And then, on that page, click on the link that reads "View Tomorrow's Federal Register."

Let me know if you have any questions,

A major source of biological, management, and invasion risk information that we
used for the proposed rule and this final rule was derived from the United States
Geological Survey’s (USGS) “Giant Constrictors: Biological and Management Profiles
and an Establishment Risk Assessment for Nine Large Species of Pythons, Anacondas,
and the Boa Constrictor”
Garbage!

Furthermore, snakes in general have been found to harbor ticks (such as the
nonnative African tortoise tick) that cause heartwater disease (from the bacterium
Cowdria ruminantium). Heartwater disease, although harmless to its reptilian hosts, can
be fatal to livestock and related wild hoofed mammals, such as white-tailed deer.
According to the USDA (March 2000), “Heartwater disease is an acute,
infectious disease of ruminants, including cattle, sheep, goats, white-tailed deer, and
antelope. This disease has a 60 percent or greater mortality rate in livestock and a 90percent or greater mortality rate in white-tailed deer.” The ticks have been found in
Florida. Agricultural agencies are trying to stop the spread of the ticks as a way of
stopping the deadly disease. This rule will help to stop the spread into and around the
United States of the ticks and other disease vectors that may be carried by these four
species of nonnative constrictor snakes.

WHAT!?!?!?

Five additional species (reticulated python, DeSchauensee’s anaconda,
green anaconda, Beni anaconda, and boa constrictor) are not being listed at this time and
remain under consideration.
Great

To be honest, I'm not all that crazy about these minor government agencies being able to create "rules" that have the weight of laws without them having to pass through Congress and being voted on by our congresscritters. All they have to do is to make up something and get it published in the Federal Register, and it's now law? Something REAL wrong with that picture....
