In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Robert Baker from Bakers Boas sold me a sick snow boa for $1,700, he knew it wasnt eating good before he shipped it to me, he told me his self it wasnt eating good after I called him 2 weeks after I got the boa because it wasnt eating, Well now the boa is DEAD he wont answer my phone calls and emails or refund my money back. I think this is crappy of him to do this and hope his reputation takes a hit for bad buisness, and hope nobody else has to go threw this with Robert Baker!

There are a few issues with your post.
First, please send proof...copies of emails, photos, ect would be helpful. You cannot come on the BOI and simply state inflammatory comments about someone with no proof.

Secondly, according to BOI rules, you must sign your posts with your full name

This thread was posted on the wrong BOI so I moved it to the reptile one. At that time I noticed his full name in the name field and it appears to be still there. Unless I'm missing something about the name he is in full compliance with the name rule.

His name is there - in his profile to the left. There is no requirement that the name has to be in the post if it is already visible in the profile on the left.

A pic of the dead boa along with an email of him saying it was a poor feeder will be a good start.

I have taken the liberty of notifying Baker's Boas so we can also hear their side of this issue.

Also, how long did you have it before it died? How many times did it feed with you? Did he mention it was a poor feeder before you sent money?

Agreed, that you should be posting proof that this animal is now dead, as well as proof of the transaction.

I have a fairly important question to ask as well. Did you do anything within your power to get this animal eating? If so, what did you do to try to help it? If you didnt...Did you bring it to a vet?

Response

I have been notified of the complaint and here is my response.

Here are the facts.

1.) The male snow boa was shipped on Oct 8, 2008. Also, shipped in the package was a female dh sunglow (possible super) that Cory wanted, but has yet to pay for. The value of this boa was $600. I can try to dig emails up on this if need be.

- Here is confirmation email of the shipping.

2.) Cory sent me an email over a month later indicating the male was not eating. Here is the confirmation email. I responded for him to ship the boa back. I called and said that I would take care of him. I offered to give back his money and/or give him value towards something else/or give him a 09 snow boa.

IN SUMMARY, now 129 days later I have a complaint that a boa I sold died. Buyers please understand breeders have no control of a boas health once it is in your hands.

This is a sad situation because I have been in a hospital for weeks sitting with my brother who was in ICU from a auto accident. I have not had time to respond back to emails and phone calls, due to the person obligations I have going on right now. I also carry a full time job (other than boas), so it is really hard for me to not make phone calls during the day. During the evening I have been sitting next to a hospital bed.

Also, what is sad is out of all my customers Cory was one of my very favorites. I would have went against my policy and would have taken care of him. I guess from here on out I am sticking to my policy no matter what.

Thanks Fauna for letting me respond.

i want to know what methods the op tried to get that animal feeding. sounds like he hadnt the slightest idea from the sound of those emails. dosnt seem like he tried too hard to try other methods before resorting to forcefeeding......... enlighten me and prove my line of thought wrong.

from just the looks of it right now, from what is posted.. ill be siding with robert.

Its unrealistic that a customer comes forward after all this time looking for anything.

Once that boa is delivered it comes under the care of the customer and is his responsibility to provide proper care so that boa will thrive.

I dont see Robert Baker at fault here at all.

I would like to add.

Cory if you have any proof such as emails of you telling Robert you are having problems with that boa shortly after you recieved it... then thats a different story and puts it back unto Robert as him selling a poor feeder to you?

You have a point but...dont you think that a $1700.00 Snow boa should be delivered to a customer as a strong feeding flawless animal?

Thank you for responding Mr. Baker. You have shed a whole new light on the situation as I believed you would.

1st, I would like to know why Mr. Berensmann did not return the boa ASAP as requested on Nov 13 for refund or exchange? There is a good chance the snake would still be alive had it been returned to Mr. Baker’s care.

2nd I would like to know why Mr. Berensmann waited a month to contact Mr. Baker that he was having a problem?

3rd I would like to know why Mr. Berensmann exaggerated the cost of the single boa by not mentioning he had purchased more than one boa? Yes that is a dumb and rhetorical question.

4th I would like to know why Mr. Berensmann has not responded to any of the previous questions asked of him or provided any evidence that the boa even died?

Oh, I just thought of another question this time for Mr. Baker.

Have you recently sent Mr. Berensmann any reminders that he still owes you money?

I dont have any emails to prove the conversations we had, had to clean out old emails to unclutter my computer, however most of our conversations were over the phone. I did notify Robert within two weeks that the boa was not eating and he talked me into force feeding wich did not work. I again called Robert, he suggested I invest in a pinkie pump and inject them into his stomach. Which was successfull, but the snake never fed on its own. I called Robert again, and said it was still not eating on his own. Robert did say to ship him back, however by this time the tempretures in ALaska were below zero. You cant ship a snake in those tempretures especially sick ones. So there I was stuck with a snake that wouldn't eat. I tried to do everything Robert guided me to do. No avail. I am new to Buying snakes over the internet, and was very happy to find Bakers Boas, but the thought of losing $1700 on a non eating snake is very upsetting. Robert did not return my calls but had time to post new snakes for sale on king snake. I was feeling disgruntled and thought maybe I could get his attention some other way. Now if he could only call me instead of ditching me to voicemail. I wouldn't have felt kicked to the curb.

Robert you knew I was not that experienced with snakes, I confided in him that I was new to this ballgame! He should have never sold me that snake to begin with. A "finicky eater" and a Non Eater are two entirely different things. I've talked to a few other breeders and they've said they NEVER NEVER have had to force feed a boa. I did set an appointment to get him to the vet as soon as he started losing weight, after Robert told me not to. It was just to late.

I guess I should add my 2 cents.....

There is no way that a customer can follow what many consider to be proper protocol, and know within 24 hours that they are completely satisfied. Mainly because most breeders recommend setting up any new arrivals in proper quarantine and waiting at least 1 week before attempting to feed the animal for the first time. An animal that never feeds voluntarily should be replaced no matter how long it takes for it to eventually succumb.

Having said that, I think that Mr. Baker fully honored this when he originally asked for the animal to be sent back and offered a refund. If the OP decided after that to keep the animal and continue to try to get it started than it is completely on him and he is owed nothing. However if the OP can provide some sort of evidence that Mr. Baker convinced him to keep trying to get the animal to eat, than of course it is back on him to make things right...... minus the money he is owed of course.
