In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I absolutely LOVE goldens. They are wonderful wonderful...my last dog (ever; hubby is allergic) had more blue blood in him than the Queen of England; here's a pic of him a year and a half before he died at age 14 1\2
Tohvage13.jpg

Here's a pic of him at age 4...he was beautiful, inside and out.

This dog learned over 100 commands; he would even eat his food on command. My brilliant, brilliant boy, I really miss him.
He was a Tigathoe dog, if anyone is familiar with that famous Golden line.

It was cool watching the neighbour kid, who stood amost as high as Tohv's head, order this big dog twice his size around the yard.

The Presa is funny - if we are out and somebody approaches, he acts all big and bad cuz that's what he is supposed to do...but his tail is wagging and he really wants to go see them. When family or my vet comes over, or when I back the truck in & he's in the yard, he gets so excited that he hops (now that's a sight, lol). He can be a handful in public...but that is partially the breed and partially my fault. I chose not to supersocialize him...I wanted to pick the people he would approach and let approach. He is super protective of my wife. The black dog is very territorial, and super protective of both my wife and the Presa (He's gotten between me & the Presa with his teeth bared...but only til I grabbed him, lol). The pit is a love bug, but has changed hats when appropriate.

Oh, btw Dr Owens, since you are familiar with the breed, the Presa is from Urco's line

I too like big dogs. This is my 155lb. male Rhodesian Ridgeback Leeu. I used to have a whole pack (11) of them. Truely one of the smartest breeds that you will ever come across.

Yeah, rhodesian ridges aren't too common; I didn't realize they were such large dogs!! The training method I use calls for you to be able to pick your dog up and walk it backwards...like if it breaks from "stay", you have to be able to pick it up and walk it backwards to where it started. They hate that, so it works.
Tohv weighed 75# and I weigh 112#...not a problem with Tohv, but it would be difficult to assert authority with one of those in this fashion. How did you train them?

Hey nice dog David. He looks a lil grey around the muzzle. How old is he? Probably still 2 if you ask him. LOL

He was 4.5 years old in that first picture. He has had gray around his muzzle since he was about a year old. Just a genetic anomoly I guess. Some of the ones I used to have had the same thing. Some have a little white on their chests too. I have had people tell me that he is fat, but then they see him bouncing straight up 4ft. in the air and spinning around acting like a mad dog (just playing of course) and realize that it is all solid muscle. It is quite a site to see him chase after something at 35 miles per hour. Anything deer sized or smaller is fair game if I let him chase it. Fortunatly he is field trained and stops chasing with a simple whistle blow.
If you can't tell, I love my dog LOL.

They are really smart so it is easy to train them. All mine, including this one, are field trained in my own way. This entails NO treats, it is all done with love and trust. I work them from when they are about 16 weeks old with a training whistle. What I do is when they get to about 50 ft. from me I blow the whistle twice and hold my hand above my head. Then when they start coming back to me I hold my hand out to the side and blow again and have them touch my hand with their nose. This may sound strange but it works. After a few weeks of that all I have to do is blow twice and they come and tag up with me. And then after several months I don't have to blow the whistle unless they need to be called back for some reason like they are on the chase. This way they can range out a bit and investigate, but know not to go past a certian point from me. And it keeps them looking back to see where I am all the time. It can get a little hectic when working more than one dog and they are all trying to tag up at once so that they can get back to looking for rabbits and such.
Of course he also works perfectly on the leash. He likes to go to Petsmart with me and people are always amazed at how well manered he is and also that he won't take treats from anyone but me. And they have all tried too, including their dog class trainer.

Oh yea, he is way above breed standard in size. Although the ones I had before were all at least 115lbs. with the average being 125lbs. I have never understood the breed standard of 80lbs. for males since I have only seen one or two that were that small.

Oh, WOW. THAT's training.
I trained Tohv with no treats also; it was worth it because of what you said above... He WOULD have accepted a treat from anyone though; he was the little treat-whore, and probably his training would have gone even faster with treats.
Tohv could reliably mark triple falls; in retrievers, this is a rarity. For instance, I could throw three frisbees in long grass three different places with him sitting at my side. He would watch where they landed, and I would send him with no guidance to get them. He RARELY had to pop up to see me gesture where they were, he would remember on his own where they were, all three of them. Four gave him some trouble, he wasn't as reliable-often forgot where the third one was...
That's so cool how you have them tag you and you worked with multiple dogs. THat has to be a sight to see!

I am just waiting to get a large piece of property so that I can have several ridgebacks again. He is not always the big badass though. He has a softer side at well, the mommy side. He loves my wife and likes to lay on the bed with her. The punk even puts his head on my pillow while he lays there. I guess he is playing daddy, LOL! I just pitty anyone that ever touches her when I am not around. He even barks at me when I put my arms around her!

too funny...
