In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Where is.....

To my understanding, it is (was) not against the rules to have multiple user accounts unless it was done to bypass a suspension. Perhaps the same rule should apply to bypassing warning points in general? I think that's what you're getting at here, but I suggest it might be best to spell it out with the rest of the rules. For example, I don't think it would violate any existing rules for me to start a new user name and lose my warning pts. No, I have have no intentions of ever doing that, I'm just saying that I suppose someone nearing 100 pts. might though.

I agree with Paul. I think a rule against creating a new user name in order to bypass warning points is a good idea.

Yeah, I know. But sheesh, I doubt anyone gets half as tired of READING the rules here then I do having to make them up as situations arise. The danged rules here are going to get as complicated and weighty as the tax codes....

Rich,

There is no need to cover every contingency. There is the letter and then there is the spirit. The lawyers sometimes call it "the reasonable man rule". In this case it is "reasonable" that someone's warnings follow them along, even if they make a new ID and even if vBulletin programming does not account for it.

A necessary evil.

I know the rules would end up more lengthy, but I don't think it would be TOO overwhelming. Considering how much time many people spend on Fauna, even if it took a whole 15 minutes to read all the rules, I don't think that's unreasonable. Besides, once a rule is in place you as the admin/mod would always have it to fall back on.
Honestly though, I would suggest a forum right on the main page called "Fauna Rules". And then just post (and lock) all of the rules right there--right there on the front page where nobody can claim to have not seen them. That, or add it as a link to the User CP--FAQ--Trader Ratings--etc. bar across the top. (if that's possible.) Also, if new members don't get an email with all of the rules sent to them right after they sign up, I think that would be a good idea. Not just a link or a suggestion to read something, but to actually send the rules, in text, to new members. Some people just need it spoon-fed to them.

Anaconda Al and CloudNine for one pair. I doubt that he's coming back, but one of his ID's is banned, the other "suspended". The total is well over 100 points.

Who? Oh, Eleaner

Albert Applebaum, Rob Dunleavy, Eleanor Golden.

Anaconda Al
CloudNine
Elbird

I can't remember what thread it was on but I believe it had to do with Ryan T. He had about ten user names at one time and built up a lot of points under one then received a clean sweep when he changed to his current one. I believe Rich said then that there was nothing he could do about it due to programming. As you can see, he has again built up a fair amount under his current name.

Oops, he just said that on this thread. I should not skim the posts before posting.

If this is the case and even Rob D. is on here with clean sweeps, then no one should be banned until it can be totally set up correctly. I can't believe Rob is still on here at all, and with different names.
When all the systems are go and everything is implemented then I say start punishing or banning, until then it will not be a fair system by far.

Do you REALLY think that people like Dennis Dynes should be left to hang around here indefinitely while someone tries to sort this out?

Please let me know where that perfect world you live in is located. I might like to visit there now and again.

Well, it would be fairly easy to implement that rule. Type a couple of sentences about it in your TOS, then when people do it, suspend or ban them. It's not very fair for someone to build up a ton of warning points, then they can just start fresh with a clean slate just by creating a new user name. Especially not fair to those of us that respectfully follow the rules here. :)

But unless "Chuck" or "Critical Bill" drops that statement in his user title: I will be changing it to something else. Like Fined & Suspended........ And he is getting awfully close to the 100 point ejection limit.

No sweat...its all done. I changed it the moment you notified me that you found it to be offensive in nature.

So my strikes over and I must say it felt GOOD to honor Wes in that way. And hey...thank for the heads up with the point score Rich. I don't think I'll be giving you much reason to kick me off your site unless your looking for one. Actions do speak louder than words so a "sit out" on fauna every now and then when its needed is going to be my new approach. That should keep me in your good graces and at 95 points forever.

Actually I think this would be an excellent policy for everyone to follow. When things start getting you steamed up or otherwise in jeopardy to make unwise decisions in how you post here, just walk away for a couple of days. I think this would be a better place for it. No one is REQUIRED to reply to anything anyone says here.
