    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Who is working on blazing projects????

Chris...as far as I have seen (and I could be wrong)...a blazing blizzard has to have red eyes...

Justyn...That actually makes sense (blizzard and giant on the same chromosome)..I hadn't thought of that... The mutations would have occured separately and so blizzard would be linked with the normal "giant" allele, and giant would be linked with the normal "blizzard" allele. Which would mean when crossing the two the offspring would be het...however it would be very difficult for the alleles to independantly assort and so the second generation would be mostly hets.
The only thing I have to say about your explanation is that the GENES are all on the same chromosome...however the ALLELES are different...so the recessive alleles of each of the traits are associated with the dominant alleles for all of the remaining alleles on the chromosome.

Out of curiousity (this isn't at all related to the original topic of the thread...lol) does anyone know if its possible that the bell and tremper strains are both the same gene but with different mutations that cause different appearances?...That thought just occured to me...I know that its HIGHLY unlikely...but I dunno...

I feel like Charlie Brown listening to his teacher in the old Cartoon.

I think some chickens are definetely being counted before they have hatched. Or should I say "Giants"!!!

christina have you ever seen a blazing blizzard in person?.... some trempers are born with red eyes normally losing them as they get into adult hood, bells are born with pink eyes and they stay that way... rainwaters have blueishgreishgreenish and red veiwns..... if a tremper blazing blizzard happens chances are it may be born with red eyes but most likely in adulthood they will get dark... all three forms of albinism are T+ so technically really none of them HAVE to have red eyes at all

experience.....

One thing I am wondering is if we could test this theory. If in fact one of the genes did in fact cross over onto another chromosome to allow both both traits to be expressed at the same time, would it still bred true to an animal with the old gene location? Example: I buy a Tremper blazing blizzard, would I be able to breed it to a Tremper albino/blizzard and produce all albinos/blizzards. Sorry I made it so confusing, it is much easier to talk about this in person then via a forum.

Justyn...buy that tremper blazing blizzard (get a male) and get about 5-10 double hets. By doing so you now have a testcross. Keep ALL offspring and note their phenotypes. The observed offspring morphs with the higher #s will be your parentals and the observed offspring with smaller #s will be the recombinants. You'll need to perform a chi-square test to determine if the genes are assorting independently (linked). If they are not linked the expected phenotypic ratio among the progeny from the testcross of a dihybrid will be 1:1:1:1. You'll have 4 phenotypic classes, thus 3 df (degrees of freedom). The critical value for 3 degrees of freedom is 7.815. If you calculate chi-square and it's above, you'll reject the hypothesis that your genes are unlinked. If below the critical value accept, thus genes are unlinked.

chi-square formula: X<sup>2</sup>=Sum of(observed - expected)<sup>2</sup>/ expected

sum of = sigma (no ascii code for the sigma key)

Your expected will be in a 1:1:1:1 ratio. Example, when you do the above cross say you get 400 total offspring (live or dead, but must be full term so you can id what morph they are). You would expect 100 normals, 100 albinos, 100 blizzards, and 100 blazing blizzards if the genes are not linked.

Lost yet?

Chris

As I said Robin...I wasn't sure about it...but that was my understanding from what I've heard about blazing blizzards...I said I could be wrong

Christina...

Chris...as far as I have seen (and I could be wrong)...a blazing blizzard has to have red eyes...

The term blazing blizzard was originally coined by Prehistoric Pets (originator of the blizzard) and simply implied a double homozygous recessive, aka an albino blizzard. the red eyes have nothing to do with it unless you're being fed some BS by some misinformed n00bs.

EDIT:

I will be away most of today (now that it's after midnight here) as I will be training for a herp related job that I'll be taking on this summer. If I'm not too tired from all the hiking, etc I will hopefully have time to reply to this thread. As for now I need to go feed my colubrids and green tree pythons and then get my rump into bed so that I can wake up at 7:30 and drive the hour out to my training location.

I got the red eye thing directly from Prehistoric Pets... "The Blazing Blizzard Lizard is a gorgeous all-white leopard gecko (Eublepharis macularius ) with ruby red eyes. It came from a cross with an Albino Leopard gecko." That's copied directly from their website.

robin...what the fact that PP coined the term before they even produced a blazing blizzard. A marketing ploy to get more blizzards sold as well as the albinos (tremper line) they had? The fact that Corey Sawyer (he pulled a disappearing act like Rainwater, different situation though) busted PP for photoshopping their photos. Or the fact that the first blazing blizzard was regular blizzard photo artist rendered (aka photoshopped) to look like what they envisioned the blazing blizzard to appear as? Christina, there are no fully ruby red eyed albinos. All the ones I've seen since 99, all the onces I've hatched since 2001, have all developed an orange, pink, grey, or tan iris with either a "ruby-red" pupil (Tremper & Bell lines) or a deep blood red pupil (Rainwater line). ALL of my Tremper albino hatchlings have started out with a pink iris with bright red pupil for their eyes.

Christina, see if you can find an old issue of REPTILES mag, around 2000 or 2001. Look for ads by PP. Their ads state that the blazing blizzard image is an artist rendering. Hell, I might even have one of their old on-line photos saved somewhere that still has that disclaimer.

Welcome to the world of leopard geckos and some of the crooked names within said world.

robin, it's gotta be...what 2 am?...I would bet your kinda fellin like your a blazen right about now!:hot:

I was aware of the image rendering to show what a red eye would look like...I'm also well aware that there aren't "ruby-red eyed" albinos. I wasn't sure if the blazing blizzards actually had the red eyes or not...which is why I said I wasn't sure and could be wrong. I knew Prehistoric Pets were the first to work with the idea, and coined the name...so I thought thier definition would be correct...but as I said...I wasn't sure

chris,
you hit the nail on the head... now that was a frigon drama.. dayum where time goes.... PP, corey and tim rainwater crap if people only knew half of the crap that happened they would wet themselves hehe......
