In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Who's here and what do you keep?

I have tried several times to get the discussion forums rolling by offering sponsorships and what not, and except for the leopard gecko forum, they are all just way under used. As such, this may very well be my last effort to get those forums going. If this fails, I will likely just terminate all underused discussion forums and be done with it.

I really enjoy this forum and in the interest of preserving it, I think it might be prudent for the regular visitors here to get together and make every effort to take it to the next level.

I think the first step in doing this would be to find out who is here and what boas we keep.

I'll start it off:

I've been keeping boas for about 10 years now. Although I do work with other species as well, it has always been the boas that fascinate me. Although my residents vary from year to year, here is the primary list:

The locality kids:

Argentines
Bolivian Amarali
Corn Island Boas
Hog Island Boas
Hondurans
Western Venezuelan Boas

The Common and Morph kids:

Albino Boas (VPI Bloodline)
Anerythristic Boas (Including Striped Anerythristics)
Blacktails (My own bloodline)
Common Boas - Colombians (numerous color and pattern morphs)
Hypos

and Pip (my project for a true dwarf Colombian Boa)

Ok - what do the rest of you have?

Thanks,

Though I have staked my claim in the Python forum, I enjoy this one as well.
I keep dumerils boas, Hog Island boas, albino and hypomelanistic BCI.
Staying in the Boa family, but stepping out of the Boa genus, I also keep ATBs, ETBs, and yellow anacondas.

(I put the dumeril's in the first group, because I have recently seen them listed as Boa dumerili vs the previous Acrantophis dumerili)

Did you see any kind of a time line on the listing? cause I thought it was the other way around.

you know, I thought it was weird, they've been Acrantophis for as long as I've dealt with them in any capacity. I'll have to go back and check, but I think one of the places I saw it was the CITES site. (I'll get back to you)

It wasn't CITES, but this site shows Acrantophis dumerili (invalid) and Boa dumerili (valid), and is dated 1999.
http://www.itis.usda.gov:8080/servl...ication&search_id=pub_id&search_id_value=1912
also, the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology site (citation 2006)
http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/site/accounts/classification/Boa_dumerili.html
Wow, that's interesting. That site not only states that Boa is valid for Dumeril's, but also the tree boa as Boa madagascariensis . That first site has Jonathan A. Campbell listed, and I think he is on the official governing body (?) that lists reptiles. I had always thought it was Boa that was defunct, and Acrantophis as "current". Thing is, according to that site this was determined in 44' as in 1844! I mean I know I have a hard time keeping up with all the changes in taxonomy, especially the last 10 years or so, but 150 years! Man am I behind. LOL

yeah - I noticed those dates as well. Might as well face it...us common folk will never be in the know.

I have noticed that on many published stock/pricelists, they are showing up as both Boa and Acrantophis (not on the same list of course). Boa is easier to spell, so maybe I should stick with that one until we know for sure, lol.

1.0 2 year old hypo het anery sib to ghost
1.0 2 year old screaming salmon (produced by Dayle Speckin)
4 unsexed hypo yearlings...........

I'm sure you all want to know why I destroyed my whole collection?? As a keeper and breeder, it was my responsibility to uphold the integrity of boa breeders, possibly lead by example the true nature of IBD and hopefully prevent another from going through what I did...........

You see gentlemen, I worked hard, practiced all quarantine procedures, researched and learned every possible bit of information available.......and my demise...an insect the size of a grain of salt. Did they come from feeder rodents, on my clothing from the many shows and educational event's that attended?? I will never know for sure, what I do know is that this issue is my "soap box" in the reptile world!!

And in case your wondering, all caging was destroyed!

It took me a while to even entertain keeping boids again and I didn't come to my decision lightly, so yes, I am starting over! Not only with my boas, but my life...I was asked for a divorce the day after the NARBC show in Anaheim.

I only buy from a very select few and after months of recovering emotionally from my events, my collection is small but cool none the less.

0.1 3 year old Sears line hog
1.1 yearling F1 hogg's from 27 year old original Tom Crutchfield wild caught imports
1.1 2 year old longicauda
1.1 yearling super light and no freckled pastel BCI
1.1 yearling fire belly Hondurans

Laura,
I'm so sorry - I had no idea.
Sorry for your loss. It had to be very difficult for you to put down such a group. You are to be commended for your actions. I respect your decision.

1.0 Pokigron, Suriname local (produced by gus at rio bravo reptiles)
0.1 Marajo island Guyana

im not a big fan of designer BCI. i think the most beautiful boa is one that is naturaly pretty, no cross breedings or anything like that. i have many other snakes becides my trio of BCC, but their is no need to post them on here.here are pictures of my 2 females. the Belknap is on the newspapper, the pic was taken from the gut u got her from. i dont think newspapper is a good ("substrate") i will have pictures of my male soon..

my female BCC's

sorry for some reason it wont let me post the same pictures i have already posted. i will try again later, or you can look up my previous posts and can find them their. the pokigron suri im getting is true eye candy. i cant wait to get his pic on here.

Man, I feel so puny now. HA HA HA I have a mere 2 Boas...............For now that is. :D 1.0 Salmon Hypo, het for coral albino, (My future project male). He is now going on 10 months, 32 in. and 302 Gr this weekend. And 0.1 Albino, an F3 from Kahl. I have had her for 7 years now. She is a big girl. (really big right now :hehe: ) And next month she should be having a litter of albinos from a Coral dad from Ihle. So I will hold back a couple of those for Myself.

Future goals................
0.1 Col. Anery het albino
0.1 Col. Arab het albino
1.0 Col. Motley (they are colombian right? I'll have to make sure first.)
1.0 Col. Striped (recessive type)

Use your imagination as to what I will be making with these. So many posibilities. LOL I do have a thing for the BCI Morphs. Particularly the albino forms. One day we will have a truly Leucistic Boa. I can't wait!
