In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

whos in line for a raptor

well...

Tremper sent me one with an eye and tail deformity.
He sent me one that only had 6 out of 20 toes!

I'm not going to mention any names here, but I know of 2 breeders who visited RT's facility right before he was getting ready to introduce the APTOR, and there were several marked to go to a certain breeder in NY.
:no_evil01
Personally, I would rather let other breeders spend that kind of money on a genetically unproven morph so they can prove them out and sell them cheaper! My bad... hehe!

wow, i think im starting to understand some peoples hatred for tremper. i know i would be highly angry to buy a gecko from him, to get one thats unbreedable or mamed.

not to sound mean but some of you out there

THOUGHT you werent buying geckos from ron . "6 out of 20" ? wow that doesnt sit well with me either

Dan - That most likely happened quite a while ago... Marcia will clarify I am certain.

Yeah, I am pretty sure the red eye trait in the "Raptor" is genetic as well. How? Who the heck knows, the first ones hatched just last year, it has to be proven out first!

clarification...

About two years ago, I purchased an awesome designer albino male from RT, and he was missing most of his toes - obviously to poor sheds. I immediately emailed RT about it, and he called me back to apologize. Since it was not a genetic defect, I kept the gecko anyway.

Don't you hate that when you post and are replying to one that is no longer the last post!
Anyways, now that I am caught up...

Were the deformities obvious? was it a scratch and dent sale?

The eye isn't obvious, but one eye is smaller than the other.
The tail is very obvious. We're not talking a kink at the tip, we're talking dead center of the tail there's an indentation on one side of the tail. It's significantly noticeable.

I did not mention this to Ron, I didn't spend that much (it was a subadult giant het for albino) and certainly was disgusted enough that I did not want a replacement.

I was also turned off by Ron's packaging, which included a slip warning that the gecko might be in a 'cold coma' and that I should not be worried..... That just didn't sit right with me.

I'm positive this trait is genetic (thus proven), based on what I've seen. How it is genetic, who knows.

Gotta love Trempers marketing..... people lining up to pay a premium for unproven traits.

It is unproven for the sake of making a financial gamble not knowing if it is recessive, codom, or dom.

Rushing it to the market saying its genetic, charging a premium, and not knowing how its genetic.... that's just greedy when it takes so little time in comparison to other species to prove out the genetics of a leopard gecko.

One thing's for sure, whoever ends up buying these geckos will be in for a surprise.............. Now, if that surprise is good or bad......... I just don't know

Matt

What's the surprise? The condition they're in? The genetics? The number of bounced checks you'll write after having paid for them? :D

I personally think it is recessive, but since Tremper just produced this trait for the first time this year is has yet to do any outcrossing to see how the trait is passed onto it's offspring. It is certainly genetic, that's without a doubt. He has produced this trait in a good number of geckos from the same lineage. I personally think your bias against Tremper is clouding your better judgment on this matter. He never claimed to know how it was genetic, and it seems to me he is reserving that claim until he knows for sure. I am thrilled to see a red-eyed albino enter the market place, what more could you ask for? As for being greedy, please....this man has to make an honest living running a risky business. Any money he makes off this or any projects is well deserved. I am done with this pissing contest.

WHAT??? You've got to be kidding me!
Let me guess, $1200 for a Sunglow isn't too much? How about $1200 for a giant hyglow?
Huh, suddenly the price of $1000 for a RAPTOR or $750 for an APTOR doesn't seem so bad!

what more could you ask for?
a true t- albino with red eyes of course i wouldnt buy one because those damn solid red eyes scare me... like the albino ferrett... or white mice or rats white ones with red eyes... albino sugar glider or albino corn snakes

OMG! I would sell that damn mojave real quick to get a true T- albino leopard gecko. Then my kids and I might have to come live with you Robin, LOL.

I am done with this pissing contest.

Justyn.. you know I love ya,.. but it's not a pissing contest, it's a discussion. That's why we love Fauna so much, we can have these open discussions here. Tremper puts his stuff out there on the market, he makes certain claims. That makes it an open topic for discussion. Same goes for you or me or whoever. The difference is I would be here discussing these things WITH people. And I bet so would you. I know that we are not as busy as Ron so I can understand his absence.

I think most halfway intelligent people realize the impact that Ron Tremper has made on herpetoculture. Myself, I respect him very much for many of the things he has done in a positive way for our hobby. That doesn't mean I will not question something that I do not agree with. I put no one up on a pedestel. Well, I take that back, I put no one in the reptile business up on a pedestel. No one is above questioning or discussion, Tremper, me, Bob Clark, NERD (those are just some examples off the top of my head).

I can't think of anything else to say on the matter, really.
