Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Noone on this thread was immature or unable to debate or explore new ideas.... i think YOU were the first one to call names. and YOU are the one who is reponsible for what YOU say. ( this seems like something i just said a few days ago..... hmmmmmm)

I have a notion of how an employee-owned shipper might work. Everyone employed, by volunteer and screening by a board of directors, could be responsible for any deliveries in their area. Say 150mi radius. Employee provides climate controlled vehicle. As more ppl in diff areas join the corp., overlapping areas happens and becomes feasible, thru adjacent or overlapping areas of coverage.
Yould need probably 300+ ppl or the points of pickup/delivery would be too far to drive. How far would you drive in your Civic for $50.? Out of approx $75 ship charge, something like a third would have to go to the corp, rest to the driver. It's not like yould be on the road all day everyday, until the thing got so popular that more ppl needed and tracking systems.
You couldn't do overnight tho. A few million for a dc7. But eventually, the corp could get a Cessna($350,000) on credit if the idea was taking off.
I myself don't drive, but I'd like to invest in something of this nature. We need catered-to-animal shipping to provide the service that the big guys aren't/can't...
Overly simplified, but maybe someone will start puzzling out some logistics.
 
Paul, think about applying your model to real life...I am shipping a snake from here, (Albany, NY) to San Diego, California - a distance of 2880 miles. How does the package get from me, to my customer...and in how much time?
 
Probably the most feasible plan would be for a company to open a company which could possibly handle all reptile shipping in the US, and gain contracts with the current shipping companies for their transportation services.

In Anchorage DHL did this for a couple of years I think, if not still. People would take their shipments to their local DHL office, or pickup, or what have you. Then somewhere along the way it would get transferred over to UPS or FedEx for the flight to Alaska. There was a local DHL office where the DHL packages were brought, then the DHL people and truck did the delivering. Bascially it wasn't worth it for them to have their own hub here, and have their own planes fly up here, but still wanted to deliver here.

So the company would gain contracts through FedEx and UPS to allow shipping of reptiles/animals under our terms, and would have offices/branches set up in major cities, and would accept packages of the customers and would be responsible for the delivering of them. But the actual transporting would be contracted out through other companies. They could negotiate reduced rates for the company so that the end consumer would still be paying approximately the same. This way we could legally ship our animals under our own terms easily, have our own delivery schedule, our own climate controlled delivery trucks, our own insurance policy, etc. but not have the expense of having to set up an entire shipping company - just to use an existing one with our purposes.

Of course, the cost of the contracts with the existing shipping companies could be prohibitive, and the shipping companies might put down so many restrictions that it might not be worth it.

Or perhaps we could persuade one of the current shipping companies to open up their own version of the above - except internal to the company. Some places have a seperate inport/export office, this could be the animal shipping office or special handling office - which could cover animals and hazmats.

Just ideas. I don't know how feasible ANY of them are...
