Widow appreciation.....

Man I gotta admit it is rather nice seeing some new faces here that like bugs and such as much as me...of course I have my herps

I am surprised that more people aren't on the insect/arachnid forum here.
It probably gets pretty lonely eh?
Well, I am here to bug you now. My wife is still hesitant as far as me getting back into the hobby.
At one time, our entire garage was converted to accomodate my collection.
I had right around 40 or 50 adult T's and a couple of thousand slings. This plus the widow collection kept me very busy.
I think she is going to allow the widows back in which is really all that I am interested in anyway.
When I was doing the shows, it was really a hobby that paid for itself more or less. Of course if you factor in heating bills and the constant substrate changes, not to mention the time involved, I guess I can see how my wife determined that there still was money-out that the shows didn't cover.
No worries. If I can just have a nice shelf of widows for future photo-ops I will be happy.
You should really get over to SpiderTalk when you get a chance.
I find that to be my favorite forum. Arachnoboards, IMO, can be a little clicky at times. ST has a nice mix of folks.
Leanne, (who has recently started posting here as well), is really nice. I believe she is a Michiganer as well. She brings a lot of knowledge to the forums and fun as well.
Well, let me know what you have in your collection...herps and all.
Talk to ya soon!

John...forgot to ask...did you grow up in Michigan? I have a good friend in Ann Arbor who is right around your age, (which is almost my age...sorry old man, you've got me beat by a couple of years).
I realize that it's a big place, however, a few years back, I met a woman at a park here in Seattle who mentioned she was from Ann Arbor. When I told her that my friend was from there she inquired about his name. Well I'll be damned if she wasn't good friends with my friend's whole family! Small world.

Jason...old man...OLD MAN!!! lol Been here and raised here except the stint in the army and 10 or so years in Florida, lotta people know me around here so I might know your friend,,,

So your getting back into the hobby ehh..as you know for ease of care arachnids can not be beat.
My collection consists of about 40 or so adults of various species and about 300 slings at this moment and about 30 'true' spiders.
Waigoe tree boas [candoia sp]
obsoleta morphs and geographical varients
Russian torts they hibernate outside under my garage [been there for some years now]
giant cave roachs [china]
ackies[these guys are neet and personable]
was given atrio of timor monitors
albino garters
most of the colubrids are in the cold room and some theraphosids are on sacs

Forgot to mention my Miami Mottley corns that are bruminating at this moment.
Also Jason let me know if ya are looking for anything.
Spidertalk..? send me a link, I seem to feel the same way about the arachnoboards as being a 'little' clicky , attack one for being an idiot and you attack all. I do go there from time to time to see what is for sale though.

Jason, Todd had boatloads of bishopi slings when I was there in November. Tiny little buggers they were! I bet he still has a bunch.

I will have to inquire once I can talk the wifey into allowing me to spend a little.

Hey JDP its swatc1h been awhile ever since i first registered and lost my hints to access this domain which in reture reregistered AGAIN doh.

The first male that came to be is pretty much done with crickets unlike underfed males i keep this new stock in shape :) nice rounded size. But one 3rd instar caught my eye thats quite the looker for undertermined sex probaly a female by her abdomen its 2-3 bigger than the males but being less lengthy on the leggs than the males. Do you both John/JDP see such a difference since ya experience lats than me being 1+year.

Ive got hatchlings on there second instar out of 10 of some sort. Have you encounter while observering them like if a prey were to fall but rather than that most likely to see there reactions :>poke2<: i see in two slings theyll run off and curl into a ball like geos is this common for Latrodectus Bishopi :)

males and female of all latrodectus are very different in size and this can be found out earlier than adulthood.
I have not noticed my bishopi curl into balls but the geometricus does when out of a web
Kind of hard to read your post

Yea instead of falling the hatchling bishopi would climb down and curl into a ball but i havnt seen them in the matter anymore after there shed :spinny:

First picture of a MALE. Second/Third same size of the male.
My collection is just starting i will very soon get by the end of the year L.tredecimguttatus Corsica/L.mactans mexicanus :crazy03:

ENJOY
