    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Thanks for the offer David. I may give it a try and see if I can run with it. It's very likely that if it works I will need a lot of help!

Now, the name. Here is what I had in mind "Fauna Breeding Loan & Trade Trust" it seems that it's too similar to "Engulf and Devour" (those who remember Mel Brooks' "Silent Movie"). Any other "catchy title" you can think of?

Sounds like and awesome idea, I have stopped doing trades since the days of Jeremy Clark/Stark lol But would love to do them more if there was a set up like this.

I guess so but that's up to Rich to decide. One other thing is what would happen with those individuals that are not members. I guess that according to the rules it would be for members only. Of course one could decide to give another person a "free membership" just for the sake of having reassurance in a trade or loan. After all is like paying for having hundreds of witnesses that can back up your agreement.

Dan, have you thought out the parameters? Are you limiting trades that are recorded and pictured on your forum to reptiles? To reptile related equipment like feeders and cages and so on? Or will you permit totally non reptile trades to be recorded? What about minors who by and large cannot be held responsible for their deals?
Will you require full names so that future possible traders can pull up a history using the search function and review the history of a particular trader?
Is there a possibility that a trade section of the Fauna classified could be annexed to your forum, enhancing the ease of those who want to trade and do it in a 'one stop shopping' manner?

Yes, to a certain extent and I already sent the “sticky note” to Rich. No, it doesn’t necessarily have to be limited to reptiles, it can be anything. You mention cages and that’s a very good example of something that has created some problems every now and then. Full names will be required. As far as minors goes, one of the requisites is that each participant will have to disclose its full information to the other. This includes verifiable name, address, and telephone #. I can’t see how anyone would be willing to do a trade or loan w/o that kind of information anyways. That information will not be posted in the thread, but each party will acknowledge to the readers that he has received it and feel comfortable enough to proceed with the agreement. Rich will be the one to determine if it can be annexed or not to other forums.

On your previous question of someone attempting to interfere with the trade he is running a huge risk. If he gets caught doing this he will have guaranteed himself a spot in the BOI. And we all know how those things end. ;) It might be possible that the very same person offered another deal might send an e-mail alerting that he has been approached with another offer. How many on this site would risk doing something like that?
 
Heck Id have no problem posting my info on the forum, its not a like its a secret anyway, anyone can get my info from here or my site registration.
 
As for a title for the forum, it is probably indicative of my age that I remember a TV show a long time ago called Truth or Consequences. :hehe:

I think all in all this sounds like a workable plan, but let the stew boil a little bit longer so we can get more ideas on the actual implementation. Perhaps there is some way to tie certain sections together to make this all work without some real extensive programming changes. Would people feel more comfortable engaging in a trade with someone already registered in the BOI Good Guys Certification Program? That already contains all the info needed for most people to have a positive ID, I think. And there is already the requirement of being a Contributor level member or above to participate there. Plus there is an instant feedback mechanism in place. Not saying it would be easy to tie these together, but just throwing out an idea to chew on.

There are only a 110 "Good Guys"at present count, not including the two who have been withdrawn (voluntarily or otherwise). I think that this pertains to a much wider audience than that. If I were doing a trade with someone on that list I would probably feel less inclined to need to make it public than otherwise (recent events notwithstanding).
 
I think Jim has a point although I'm not saying that because they are in the list they should not enter into an agreement either. This is probably more for the hundreds potential other trades and loans that fail because of fear of getting into unknown territory. This will not be 100% fool-proof either but it's an attempt to give a little more reassurance that what you are doing it's done in the open. Let's just think about something that might decrease the likelihood of being scammed.

I think so too. The probative value of a trade forum would be useful for trades with relative unknowns; for many of the good guys that I know I would have no hesitation in doing a trade and would not feel the need to establish the evidence that this new forum is based on.
 
I had thought about this idea also and beleive it would be a great idea to put it in concrete. The whole Trade Trust and Breeding Loan forum name is perfect. Makes it easy to find when people are looking for something specific. I think negative rep points or something should happen to anyone attempting to override a current agreement by shooting one of the parties an email saying "I've got a better deal for you". If 2 people feel comfortable trading for something, then those people should be allowed to trade without interference. Sometimes some people may not see it as being a great trade but the parties might place a lower value on something they are trading. This saying explains it perfect "One mans trash is another mans treasure"

For the most part i think replies to the thread should be constructive and/or informational re: one of the two parties or value of said trade items or loan. The BOI is for attacking someone's character if there a bad guy, or have questionable ethics, i dont think we should let this new forum get our of hand. Ok im running on, anyone catch what im trying to say.
