In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Would you pay more for "quality"

When it's time to put your money where your mouth is, will you pay more?

  • I expect to pay more for the quality I want

  • No - I'm after the lowest price, period.

Quality is an opinion also. I also noticed people tend to be bias toward their own animals. Just because you think it is top notch doesn't mean everyone else does, then you go claiming they won't pay for quality.

But I guess to answer the poll, I think it would come down to how much higher is the price than others compared to how much nicer I think it is. I mean going rate on something is 1000 and I find something that makes my jaw drop for 1500, yes I'll pay it

Now if I just think, eh it's nicer than most of the other I've seen and their asking 1500... probably not going to pay it, the quality increase might not justify the price increase to me. Maybe I feel it should only be 1200 or 1050... depends.

Sure there are people that seek morph to cost ratios, but I think most of us factor in quality, just all of us are going to value it differently and have entirely different opinions on what quality is.

Different people like different things; no doubt about it...and thats a good thing, IMO.

A lot of people do seem to look at their own stuff through rose colored glasses. Some of us are pretty realistic, though. I probably hatch at least 2-3 fugly babies for each one I consider exceptional. Back in the days that I kept monitors and crocodiles, they were easy to get rid of...these days, I have to wait for somebody to buy the darned things.

Yes indeed, quality should always be recognized even if not in the price. I try to overlook price tags when comparing animals and think more about the value it could be to my projects. I am more likely to hatch out quality if I have quality parents, no guarantee, but it's a lot better than pairing two mud bomb jungles and expecting a black and yellow screamer. I remember about a year ago I was shopping for a bel, I ended up purchasing a pastel lesser X butter for about $900, when I had past up super mojave pastels, lesser X lesser yellowbellies, and others all for around $750. That's only a $150 price difference, but still I happily paid extra for an animal who I believed was an exceptional example of blue eyed leucistic. uploadfromtaptalk1413158116417.jpg

It could be me, or the image; but does that snake looks bugeyed?

As has been said, people's tastes - and, accordingly, their perceptions of quality - vary. With black eyed leucistics, for example, some people think pure white is the best...others want that yellow/orange dorsal splotching (the more the better). You mentioned super mojave BELs - they're not generally super white, but that's what some people want from them. It's pretty common knowledge that I think certain morphs should not have spots...but other people think their spotted up spiders, lessers, enchis, etc are awesome. With fireflies - some people love the high blush look, while others go for the crisp black pattern. I like the extremes of both; but would have been surprised (given my pairing) if I'd hatched out a reduced pattern firefly with crisp black markings.

I'm rather surprised that only one person chose the lowest price option in the poll...it's not as if we don't know they're out there. Maybe they saw "pay more" in the title, and didn't bother opening the thread...or maybe they just don't venture out of the classifieds :shrug01:

I go back and forth on this. In the collecting females stage, and prepared to wait for the right animals (and have been) but every now and then I browse the classifieds or reptilering and am tempted by the prices. Caution is winning so far - I'd rather pay more for a healthy, good looking snake and a breeder who doesn't mind talking about it!

Yes, I made sure to word my post, "I believed..." signaling his quality was my opinion solely. Some of my friends love super mojaves just because of the grey heads. He's not extreme bug eyed, but a tad yes...did not notice until he crawled out of the bag, I liked his personality so he was here to stay without a doubt haha. I am not much for Black Eyed leucistics, so I cannot really comment accurately other than that I am sure they are good breeders to have in vanilla and pastel combo projects. uploadfromtaptalk1413169209811.jpguploadfromtaptalk1413169223336.jpg

I'm definitely biased because I produced him; but this guy changed my thought about what makes an awesome supermojave BEL

He is nice, real clean, purple head, and the dorsal stripe is cool. Before I saw Blitz (my bel), I kind of wanted a cherry bomb (albino super mojave)...but could not find any. I may attempt to produce one down the road though.

When I started out many moons ago, I was mostly interested in volume of snakes I could get for my money. Now that I am older and wiser (I think I am wiser) I try to focus only on quality and will pay more for better animals. If I could time travel, I would go back and try to convince myself that quality over cheap volume is much better. Painful & expensive lesson learned.

Honestly, that is how a lot of people start out. And a lesson I learned was that with a cheaper price, comes way too many males than I know what to do with lol.

When I first wanted to try the 'breed snakes' thing, I bought a group of 2.4 group of baby corns for cheap, few years later when they were close to size and big enough to sex, realized I had 6 males. Fun times!

When I had my boas and wanted to breed, I bought a breeding size, kitten tame female, triple het salmon boa female for checks cheap. She was was the most aggressive under weight beast I ever had! Then I was offered a second salmon female, gravid and once again cheap... only thing that skinny yearling male was gravid with was mites! Now that I'm looking into BP's I would gladly pay 20% more for quality. Knowing I'm getting a healthy snake, from a reputable breeder, and proven genes (if I decide to breed) Will be worth the extra funds. I learned my lesson in the cheapness.

depends on the breeder. I will pay full price if its what I'm looking for within my price range. as a customer I get angry pissed on two points and will not buy from no matter what. If they want me to pick up 3% for paypal or credit card and will not work with shipping cost if they have stated OBO or something like that. I work with people all the time I try to make everything go easy, people don't get it that the buyer is the one doing you a favor. I also love the people that get offended if you low ball. I get low ball offers and I just say I cant let it go that cheap but I will work with you. to toss insults or blow the guy off you might lose a sale you could have made if you just counter with your best price. there are some breeders that have a few snakes and think they the shit or that they know it all. people like that stay away from.
