Xoticreptiles22: reptibid auction, use caution

DAND said:
Here's some food for thought. How come he changed his name on ReptiBid? Could it be because he received negative feedback where it was pointed out he is a minor?
Well it sure could be that. Now we know why he won't meet someone. He's a kid, he can't drive, and mom is impatient. Add to that perhaps he does not want his age to be exposed again.

Here's a bit of free advice. A minor is not allowed legally to enter into a contract to buy or sell any item of value.

From ReptileAuction.com User Agreement (formatting added by me for emphasis):
Article 1. Eligibility of membership - This auction site is only available to people who are legally able to form binding contracts with you and the seller/buyer of an auction item. People who are of under age of 18 are not eligible for membership due to security precautions that can result as of those members. If you do not meet these requirements, you are not eligible to use these auction services.
Notice that is Article 1! The very first rule and you violated it Stephen. And then when exposed, you simply ran away from the facts and created a new User ID. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

Reading through all of this a second time I have come to a few conclusions. This is a child who wants to play with the big boys. This child does not understand genetics very well. This child is not completely honest (we saw him get smoked out on the Petland story) but I suspect is more childish than anything worse. This child wants to cut corners in order to be one of the big boys.

Stephen, here is what suggest. If you have more animals that you want to sell, find a local adult who will take them from you for his or her collection or for resale. Their choice. You may have to take a loss but that will be your own doing quite honestly. Keep the animals that you want to have as pets and breeders. Do your homework, don't cut corners, and come back to selling animals when you are old enough to vote in elections in this country and to enter into a legally binding agreement. Hopefully during that time you read and learn about breeding, thermoregulation, good husbandry practices, and genetics. The best way to do that is to read some books, work with someone experienced (if you can) and ask lots of questions. I am sure that people here will be happy to help you with your questions and problems so long as they do not see you as someone who is actively trying to scam people, knowingly or out of ignorance.

You are young and have lots of time to repair your reputation. Take photos of your animals along the way. If you catch them "in the act" take photos. Take photos of your gravid females and of your eggs in the incubation medium. Take photos of the eggs pipping. Make sure these are your animals and your photos. Using someone else's is a common tool of scammers and you will be found out. Be certain of that.

When you are old enough to do this all legally, try selling some normals, or if you have produced morphs by then, sell visible morphs. Selling hets that you did not produce is an almost sure ticket to the Hall of Shame.

Legal Age?

I know of someone who is 16 yo that has boas for sale right now at Kingsnake. Without going through their TOS are you saying he has no right to do so? His dad's a cop for God's sake and I'm sure he's well aware of his son's activities. I'm not trying to rat this person out. He's a good kid who's very knowledgable and honest but it seems to me he shouldn't be buying and selling animals at all then. Virtually everyone sells to him knowing he's only 16.

On a related subject, if you act now you can buy a Het pied female from "Reptibid18" for the bargain price of $85 using buy it now, no paperwork included, of course.

I guess that website can change it's name but it it's still a haven for scammers....

I am an honest person and dont want this to ruin any furture business i may get from any of you.

I don’t see future business with any one here being a problem since it is very unlikely to happen.

Reputation is the key to your statement.

I don't know what KS rules are but ReptileAuction.com rules are quite specific. But auctions and selling directly are somewhat different. A bid in an auction and offering an item for auction create legally binding obligations into which minors are prohibited from entering. On the other hand, offering an item for sale is different. There is no real obligation to sell even if someone offers the price. I can refuse to sell to you if I think that you cannot care for the animal or you are nasty to me or any of a number of reasons. So there is a difference. Maybe someone with a legal background can help us out more.

Actually guys, I don't meet strangers where I live and I don't sell out of my home unless we've done business previously.

Once you've been ripped off you learn caution. And, of course, trust is not something I give easily.

He MIGHT be on the level about this particular aspect.

Same here, Wes. I do not let strangers come to my home. No exceptions. I am always more than happy to meet people though and often hand deliver to peoples front door if that is what they want. We also have a monthly herp show here in Indy and I have met people in the parking lot there to complete sales. But never at my home.

Wow. Paranoid people. J/K :p

Seriously, I'm armed. Someone comes to my house they're dealing with an armed man who knows what to do with his gun and is not afraid to hold someone while I call the cops, or shoot if need be. And as every responsible gun owner knows, you shoot to kill, not to maim. They want to come when I'm not home they'll have to get past two security systems, Brinks and my four dogs. They'll probably pass.

That all said, if I have any suspicion at all, I would deliver or meet elsewhere.

I have a small office for my business (property management) where I meet tenants. They never come to my home though I allow contractors to come by to pick up checks. I have sold a few reptiles out of that office. Of course the gun is there with me too (maybe I am the paranoid one LOL).

Not letting strangers into your home is good practice. I agree 110%. Personally if someone will not meet me anywhere to conduct a transaction, I have trouble trusting the person.

Steven's statement saying he did not want anyone coming to his 'facility' and he only wanted to ship...really made me question his credibility. After looking at his website(http://hometown.aol.com/xoticreptiles/index.html), I figured that someone that has so few snakes would not have a 'facility' and coupled with the 'no meeting' policy, I figured any dealings with him may be risky........and I try to take NO risks...TRY.

And I see Steven is here veiwing the posts.... I wish he would try to clear up the age issue. My advice to him is tell the truth and let everyone know who you are and what you do. I am not the oldest of persons here, but I will tell them my life story if they want it to clarify a situation....no holdbacks :)

~!

I admit, I changed my name because this crap has happened before! The person that i drove an hour to meet never showed and never answered e-mails or phone calls so i left neg feeback. After leaving the feedback they turned around and said i was a minor. and you will see three neg feedbacks from the same person on the three snakes she was going to buy.
Check her feedback and you will find mine that i had left first.
I am 19, sure thats not close from a minor. But i am not a minor.
I deleted that name because she e-maield the auction administrator saying i was a minor so it kicked me off!!!
It just shows people have no heart! and when something they do is wrong and you try doing somthing about it they will turn it around and ruin you.
With here im sure i will not get anymore sales with reptiles for quite sometime. If not never! Which is rediculous that i can no longer pass on my interest and hobbie to others who were interested. Now that is nearly impossible because these people that have no life but internet chatting have decided to team together and ruin th reputation of a good seller. I think that makes you all the bad guys if you ask me.

Oh I am well armed Jim. lol

I own a variety of weapons. I shoot bi-weekly at a local range and at least 4 or 5 times a year out on my grandpa's land. My Glock .45 is either on my person or within 10 feet of me 24/7. I don't leave home without it. lol

Having a 10 year old youngin', I just do not want to ever put her in a situation where she has to see me use them on another person. That is my main reason for keeping strangers out of my home. If it was just me I would probably be a little more relaxed with that policy.

Thanks for that clarification, steven. I am another young guy trying to get started in ball python breeding, so this ordeal is helping me see the ways some stuff should not be done. One thing that I have learned from the BOI is that if there is any information out there about you (good or bad) someone here will find it, so be up front about everything and make sure EVERYTHING that you state, sell, or buy in the reptile business is supported, justified, and correct. Sorry if you are just another honest guy trying to get started and got caught up in a mess of confusion and good luck.

balls

No, none did.But if you are allowed to state your **** on here, then so can i.
I do not have a receipt for the balls sold to petland. It was an on the spot cash trade. They were not hets! they were 5 normal males and we had been talking 2weeks before the trade. So when i showed up with them he took them because i dropped the price from $25.00 to $18.00

I've found that those who respond quickly to an accusation with statements of verifiable fact, with proof to back it up, without resorting to name-calling or "woe-is-me-the-poor-little-picked-on-innocent-one" type behaviour, end up with the best overall reputation. nobody is perfect but when you resort to theatrics, to "why is everyone picking on me" whining, and emotional responses that people are going to question things that you do.

If you are going to go into Ball Pythons one BIG thing that you must accept is that there are scammers out there that will sell a tick-ridden, non-feeding, half-dead ball python as cb het piebald, het ivory, het cinny, het lucy, het every trait under the sun and try to charge the perfect price... the higher the better by a pocket point of view, but the lower the better so that some idiot who doesn't do their homework will snap up the "good deal".

It appears from the quotes on this particular thread that you've made the sort of inquiry that "newbies" make as to breeding animals. did you in fact make those inquiries?

If you did make those inquries, expect the flak you're getting. In the end YOU know what is true and what is not, but don't expect anyone else to believe you if your actions or attitude are less than 100% forthcoming.

I"m always amazed at the folks who have "het super duper" but don't take pictures. I raise corn snakes and king snakes... you know, bottom of the totem pole as far as value goes (but they're cool to ME), and I snap pictures of them copulating, shedding, laying eggs, I get interim shots of the eggs, and hatching shots of the eggs, I see those little buggars when they first come out of the egg adn get pre and post snaps of their beautiful little selves. Heck while I've been writing this post one of my new babies just had his first meal, and I got a picture of him swallowing his meal! Now if I do all that for a $15 cornsnake, why don't people do that for their $zillion ball python morphs? In actual fact, they DO.

As far as the whole age thing, apparantly there has been an accusation against you that you are underage. Do you care to show proof that the accusation is false?

In any case I've rambled too much. Bottom line in this biz.... always be honest, and you'll always be fine; be scum, and you'll always be scum.

Soooooo.........if you are going to continue to insist that YOU are the one who sold those ball pythons to Petland...and the manager stated the ONLY ball pythons he bought were from a FEMALE.....then you must be lying to us about your gender. That's the only way you could have sold those ball pythons to Petland.....should we start calling you Stephanie?
