    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I've only been on the job :) for a few months...so I'm still fresh and I also havent experience 1/1000th of the degradation that the Mod's have went through. I can tell you, though...there is only so many times I can be told such things as "get a life" before it starts getting old :dgrin:

So please, Deb...be easy on me from now on :(

Hah! Hopefully Ken and Jay will chime in here. You wouldn't believe the grief they got from Bob Sloan via PMs and emails. Gang, the mods here get DEATH THREATS for the honor of being mods on this site. Heck, not to mention the same threats along with threats of lawsuits I get VERY often.

But I doubt anyone here who has been here for a while thinks that the job we do is any picnic.
 
This is what i have to say about those individuals who decide to let their emotions get the best of them when they pm any of the mod's. PUT YOURSELF IN THE MODS POSITION. Would you want to be verbally abused on a daily basis?
I wouldn't think so, at least i know i wouldn't want to deal with that myself.

Respect is a two way street, in order to get respect yourself, you must respect others in return.

I think the most important thing to remember is not to let emotions come into play when communicating with anyone, Mod's and fellow members alike. If a person feels as if they are too upset or angry to communicate effectively without using profanity, then step away and write when everything is settled.

This is just the way i feel on the subject.
 
I just want to point out that the day this unjustified (as since acknowledged by the OP) complaint was posted...Harald weeded out a known scammer under a new alias.

Harald is still in mid-move...hes not yet fully relocated to his new residence. BUT, he still takes the time to track down a scammer in the classifieds. A scammer who has had several aliases on this site (I believe they even have one or two bad guy threads about them). Harald found them out...and it was NO simple IP check either...it took some digging. He just saved people on this site (that includes the OP of this thread who cursed him up & down in a PM) from getting ripped off.

Some users think its "us" against "them." But, is it really that far fetched to believe that maybe, JUST MAYBE the Mod's really DO have this site's and YOUR best interests in mind?

I've seen the abuse that Rich and the other moderators have received over the years. I'm sure there was plenty of other abuse that they received either by e-mail or pm. Rich and the moderators used to put up with (not saying they are getting less abuse now but saying they would take more abuse before showing someone the door) a lot more abuse years ago, whereas nowadays they would just show the individual(s) the door. And personally I agree that if someone wants to make Rich or one of the mods the recipient of turret's attack :)mah:), they should be shown the door.

Heck no. Once someone uses the "L" word in a conversation with me, then I am done talking with them.

Harold "got after" me a couple of times when I messed up but I have never felt he was unfair or abusive. He explained what happened, I replied (not in a snotty way) and we have been fine ever since.
I guess I do not understand why you would come here, as a newbie, and expect to not have to follow the same rules that everyone else does. If you play by the rules you do fine here.
 
You would be surprised at the number of people who think that the rules should only apply to "the other guys". Take new registrations, for instance. I get lots of people who seem to believe they don't have to comply with the requested info during registration. And I get my share of complaints when their registration gets deleted as a result. Whatever....... :rolleyes:
 
Ok.. for one.. I can definitely see where people get the idea of the "cliques" that are here on fauna.. there is definitely a group of people that more frequently post in threads.. some that seem to poke into nearly every thread that pops up. *cough, Tyler, cough* LOL. this makes those people very well known..

but.. as people have already stated on here.. infraction points are still issued to those that deserve them! And I have personally heard someone say that they deserved it.

In regards to Harald being the bully???? no.. Harald is not a bully.. He just happens to be the mod that most people get to "meet".. he is seemingly the most active of the mods.. therefore he comes off as the "bad cop" in the routine..

When there was discussion of "hiring on" a couple of mods, I flat out asked Harald what he would think of me trying out for the job.. and one thing he made it a point to mention.. that all must be fair.. that there will be many times that we will have to give points/warnings to our friends.. and so on..

So this "unfair" bully made it a point to mention that you have to be fair with your treatment.. even if they are your friend.. even if they are your arch nemesis. (note: not all people are awesome like me, and have arch nemesis that are plotting to foil my plans of world domination.. but if you DO.. you must treat them fair.. while here anyhow)

I do see the difference in current fauna, and old fauna.. .. that difference IS the intolerance.. It was definitely more amusing to read the BOI when Jas, Chuck, Seamus and Wes were here.. .. but that also caused the EXACT reaction we are getting now.. People not wanting to involve themselves..

No matter what, EVERYONE cannot be happy.. it is just how it is.. But cleaning things up, keeping your basic rules in check.. and trying to make this a community, more then just a site will benefit all ..

you know what's sad about this??? I don't think I have ever even fully read the "rules" on here.. and I have been here for about 3 years, every single day.. (ok, I admit it.. I have no life.. but I LOVE you guys.. UH OH.. LOVE BOMB!!!)

All of the rules.. are COMMON SENSE!!! this is a public forum.. the rules are not unique to the site.. .. Don't swear. Don't threaten people. Look before you post (location).. and so on..

use common sense.. and you will do just fine..

All I can say is, if they send out an annoucement, I better be on that list! I have been trying for YEARS to find the mystery clique. :rofl:

Careful what you wish for. It's not all fun and games. We have weekly meetings about who we are going to bully (come on, do you really think we just pick someone randomly? It take almost the full week to determine which of the non-clique members we are going to focus our attention towards) for the following week and by the chance they leave for whatever reason we have to have a back up list of people to gang up on as well, we can't have down time with no one getting bullied. :NoNo: We also have to decide who gets what severity of our attention. It is all a complicated process. We wouldn't want to push someone too fast and shorten our fun with them leaving before we are done with them.

On top of that we have to vote on who is going to join our elite ranks. Other Fauna clique members can refer those people they think would like to see join to be voted on to join the Fauna clique. We will then take the following week or longer if need be to look over the potential candidate to determine if they will be able to fill the shoes of clique member of Fauna.

We as clique members have to pay a quarterly fee into a fund so that we have the monies to pay off Rich and the moderators so that they will allow us to get away with all the things we do that non-clique members can not get away with.

So see, being a Fauna clique member is not as simple as it seems to those who are not clique members. It is a complicated process to become a Fauna clique member. Once becoming a member you are expected to fulfill your duties of bullying non-clique members and you will be supervised by senior clique members to ensure you are bullying as a Fauna clique member is expected to do.
 
The only problem with that statement, David, is that too few people will be able to separate the fact from the fiction....
