This is not about patrolling the internet; this is about finding that a hate crime was committed and do nothing about it because it didn't affect me.(

You know "hate crime" actually means something particular, don't you?

This is my last comment on this before I get banned for antagonism There is no room in my house for racist people, period. You will not see me address this individual in a discussion ever. The argument here is that if a crime did not happen in my house it is not a crime; as ridiculous as it may sound. This is not about patrolling the internet; this is about finding that a hate crime was committed and do nothing about it because it didn't affect me. There's always the possibility that I'm wrong and the rest is right. If that's the case I'd rather be in the wrong side.

The very fact that someone would send and email like that to anyone is repulsive and disgusting. We're all in agreement on that.

But no "crime" was committed here. The worst thing that can be said is that anyone who uses vile racial epithets in that manner, any person who uses the death of someone's child or spouse as a means of trying to hurt them is a scum bag and nothing more than a low-class, worthless turd. The fact that two women have been recently targeted by this vile crap is even more disgusting. The choice of those words and the decisions to use those tactics speak volumes about a person and their values and integrity more than any business transaction.

Still, there was no hate crime committed here. Just a couple of guys who showed the community exactly what they are really made of.

As for banning them from this site - one has been banned from just about every forum on the internet (including this one). The other has just hung a hell of an albatross around his neck.......one that will also follow him from site to site.

While some people will make excuses for this behavior and try to cast it in a less sinister light, the majority in this community will turn them into the pariahs they deserve to be. Wait and see.

If this was my site, I wouldn't ban him unless the comments were made here. My faith would be that the community will prescribe a fate worse than banning.

I'll interrupt for a quick reminder about the name calling & derogatory comments. I know sc-- -ag is a long time favorite...but that doesn't mean it is acceptable here. Rich made a statement some time ago about cleaning things up around here, and that is one of the specific areas we have been working on.

I would not hesitate to buy from John, if he had a snake I wanted. Sure the guy is rough around the edges, but if you know John, you know that, and if you choose to communicate with him, you understand the risk, that you may not agree with everything he says.

This is a Reptile related site, so we are talking about buying and selling reptiles, and I have never heard of John ripping someone off, sending someone mites, or failing to send the snake someone ordered. Until then, I will consider John a GOOD GUY for buying reptiles from. If you do not like his personality, block him.

John and I have not always seen eye to eye, and I am not one of his local New Jersey buddies, but if the guy sells nice Ball Morphs, follows through with what he is supposed to do once he has your money, and is knowledgable about the snake's he sells, then he is someone I would do business with.

"Rough around the edges" ummm new one for me (applied to this kind of behavior). But I have read a lot of posters justifying the indefensible actions of those they want to continue to do business with.

My husband was one of the most ethical and good men on earth, he went off on people that disrespected me, while not disrespecting them, but making his displeasure known. He did NOT want to leave me, he hung on as long as he could and tried to make sure I was taken care of.

I guess "rough around the edges" is not a phrase that I would have chosen to describe JAS or any of his friends that choose to attack others with similar words...

For you: My husband was trying to take memories with him just before we knew it was coming to an end and I had to admit him to the hospital where he would then be transferred to the Hospice. I had to PHYSICALLY restrain him from his last physical loving act because I didn't want to lose him too soon. I may not put my feelings out here, but I promise you, if those words had been voiced to me in my house, another person would have a bullet in him. I am quite sensitive where he is concerned.

Thank you! I am SO sorry for your loss. I was not around when it happened, or perhaps never got on that grapevine. I tried to imagine how I would feel if I had lost one of my children while they were so young, then tried to imagine losing one of my treasured grandchildren (just got a granddaughter too), the conclusion was NOT pretty. You are a very strong individual to still be standing.

BTW: It absolutely would not have made any difference to me how much liquor he had consumed. I am a firm believer that nothing can come out of you, that's not there in the first place.

Even child molesters have tried using this as an excuse "I wouldn't have done it if I hadn't been drunk..." Yeah, yeah. I have met lots of drunk people that would never dream of molesting a child. Similarly, I have met lots of drunkards that would never dream of degrading someone else or disrespecting someone's loss.

It has long been an unwritten policy that we don't want people giving a voice to banned members by posting messages for them...why are these posts still being made?? It certainly isn't a startling new discovery about JAS.

Kelli, Deb, my heart breaks for both of you. I sit here with tears in my eyes looking at those pictures of the ones you loved so dearly. I could never imagine the pain of that loss, nor the pain inflicted by someone like Jas. Times like this are when I sincerely hope that karma really does exist, and that it will come around and bite him HARD.

David -- The reptile community is exactly that...a community. A group of people with shared interests and passions, and often we are all part of each other's lives, even the non-reptile parts like our families, our careers, our health, our well-being. Just because someone has healthy snakes, is knowledgeable about them, and gives you what you pay for, does NOT mean his attitude or behavior should be condoned, let alone REWARDED by the community still doing business with him. I don't know how you can ethically and morally give your money and your effort to someone that spews hateful, racist garbage on a whim like it's nothing. Why would you support that, great snakes or not? He offered to give me animals for FREE, and I absolutely want nothing to do with it. As long as he still has people like you buying from him, he will continue being a disgusting, hateful, vindictive bully and attack others in this hobby just for the pure "fun" of it. The only way to stop this and remove this kind of negativity from our community, is to shut it down and refuse to allow it in any form.
