In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Sheesh! Last year, I had babies by now!

Bitey (Iodine) finally laid her eggs today! I felt five or six eggs at most all the times I palpated her, and she gave me seven pearly whites instead! I honestly don't know how she fit all those in there! :D

All the eggs look nice and red with lots of blood vessels...except one, which has a few vessels over about one-third of the egg and the rest is a solid yellow. I have no idea if this one is viable or not, but they all went in the incubator, so we'll see!

Days since pre-lay shed: 36.
Clutch weight: 601 grams.
Average egg weight: ~85.5 grams.

The arrow is pointing to the possible slug, which doesn't look any different than the other eggs unless candled.

Sorry about the lame egg container! The one egg on top of the others was just a tiny bit too high for my usual egg container...and none of the rest of my egg containers would fit in the little Hova-Bator! AAAAAH!! After some initial panic, the best thing I could think of was lopping off the top few inches of a gallon ice cream container and cover the clutch with saran wrap. It should work okay. If not, then I guess I'll be building my incubator early! (I wasn't going to build it until late this year/early next year. It should hold a minimum of six clutches, but since this year I'm only going to have one, I figured I'd just stick with the Hova-Bator for now. Guess that wasn't such a good idea.)

Anyway, she's supposed to be het VPI Axanthic, so I bred her to Tungsten, who is a visual VPI Axanthic. This is her first clutch.

And yes, Bitey lived up to her nickname when I tried to peel her off the eggs. Hee hee. :D

I find it interesting that both clutches I've had so far have consisted of lots of very small eggs. I don't know what the actual average egg weight is, but it seems like it's in the 90 to 100 gram range. Irulan's clutch last year was eight eggs averaging 80 grams each. It's no problem at all; the babies hatched and were perfectly healthy. I just wonder if it has something to do with my husbandry or if I'm just dealing with small-number statistics.

YAAYYYYY Krystal!!!! Congrats on a fine looking clutch!!! But an ice cream container?? I'm afraid that I'd get up in the middle of the night, look for a snack, and...:ack2: Wouldn't THAT be a surprise! (My new incubator is my old fridge, hence my "worrying" about the container!!! LMAO)

I hope you get lots of Axanthics!!!

Congrats, nice clutch and parents ya have there  Keep us posted!

Thank you very much! Will do!

Hahaha, fridge incubator with ice cream containers! That would be hilarious! "Why is my ice cream chunky?!" :D Would be even funnier to have all the incubation containers be from ice cream so that someone comes in and thinks you just have a ton of ice cream!

Congrats Krystal, best of luck!!

Thank you!

Congrats, Krystal! There's going to be lots of axanthics in Tucson this year! :D

I sure hope so!! Thanks!

Congrats and great "loving" snake name... LOL

LOL! Thank you! Yeah, she got that nickname pretty quick...though, I don't think she's bitten me much. She did bite one of my friends a while back. I felt bad, but I thought it was kinda funny. You don't point your finger at Bitey unless you want to lose it!

lol I love the mom's name.

Congrats on the clutch! "Natural Vanilla"

Hee hee, thanks! She mellowed out while breeding; it'll be interesting to see if she goes back to being all feisty.

She's still glowing a little, which is why she looks lighter. She'll go back to her normal coloring after a while. :-/

Congrats nice looking eggs

Thank you! Yeah, these look a lot better than last year's clutch.

Congrats on the eggs!! I hope to see a bunch of pics of baby axanthics in the near future!

Making your own incubator is a lot easier than it sounds. I was nervous about it but was surprised at how easy it took and its working spectacular!!

Congrats! Good luck on the odds. :)

Thank you very much!

You will...where "near future" is eight weeks. :D But yes, I will definitely post pics when they start hatching!

Oh, I know. I have it all planned out and have almost everything I need to build it. (Still need two computer fans and will probably need more styrofoam too.) It isn't about being able to build it; it's getting off my lazy butt and actually building it!

I took pictures of the almost-slug egg being candled as well as a couple of the "good" ones. I feel better about that egg; it looks exactly like a large version of leopard/fat-tail gecko eggs extremely early in development: just a reddish circle on one side of the egg and yellow yolk in the rest. The reddish part should expand to fill the entire egg as it grows.

After looking at the rest of the eggs more closely, it's clear that at least some of the others have a little yellow too. In fact, they all seem to be at slightly different stages of development. I didn't notice this in my clutch last year, so I'm going to try to get a picture once a week to watch how they develop. If people are interested, I will keep posting the pics here.

The egg I thought might be a slug.

Another egg with a little bit of yellow at the bottom.

One of the eggs that seems much further along in development.

I don't know what to say about the egg that may be a slug, are there any veins at all? (sorry viewing this from my cell) best thing to do is to keep a close eye on it. If it starts to rot then toss it out.

The other two look fine, one having stronger veins then the other. I'd keep a close eye on that one too.

Just wait til you candle them and you can see the baby start to move on the bottom!! I love that part of their development!!!!!! Please keep posting the pics :)

Yes, it has veins. The reddish-pink oval near the top is where the veins are.

Oh, don't worry; I keep a very close eye on my eggies (probably too close, lol).

I know. That's one of the best parts later on down the road in incubation. First you can see their little hearts beating, and then after a while, they start moving around. It's so fun to watch!

I candled them again Thursday night, and it looks like that yellow one now has veins everywhere, some quite large! I'll try taking more pics next week, but they may be kinda boring. We'll see, I guess!

Pics of eggs, especially candled are never boring!

Hee hee hee! Thank you! :D

---

Anyway, it's been a week since the last pictures, so here are the same three eggs. I tried to get the photos from the same angle/position as before, though some aren't quite right.

All the yellow is gone, and the veins now permeate the entire egg.
2011_001_WI_01_wk2.jpg

The little bit of yellow is apparently gone from this one too (as expected), though it's a little hard to tell given my craptastic lighting job.
2011_001_WI_02_wk2.jpg

I actually saw some movement in this egg, though it looked more like motion from the blood pumping than a lump of goo moving around.
