I am speculating here. I think the label came off of the box, or was removed by a disgruntled fed ex employee, the box was then in "no mans land" it was opened, no label inside, obviously animals, so Fed ex sent them to the museum to deal with as they saw fit.?
I know several people inquired as to how the snakes arrived in Arkansas instead of Alabama, after being "lost" in Tennessee- so here's what I've been able to piece together.
I've been out of town and with family for Thanksgiving, but I started doing some digging the other day- contacting SYR, FedEx and I was successful at tracking down the rescue facility in Arkansas. It's a big mess for sure and some questions you and I have may never be answered.
Originally Jereme told me the snakes were found in the rescue facility and arrived there on 9/25, but the email he sent later, referenced earlier in this thread, says that they arrived on a different day. Anyway, the animal rescue said they arrived on 9/30. Here is the original tracking number 796749299669
FedEx didn't really want to tell me too much, well at least not the manager in charge of the recovery, but I did get some information from another FedEx employee, who also works in the recovery department, who was helpful. The manager did tell me that he stayed in contact with Jereme James and that Jereme knew what was going on with the shipment as the information was discovered. He did tell me that the label became separated from the box - though he didn't say if the entire label came off or if it was not properly sealed. On the Bush League thread Jereme denies this happened and said it was made up by a lower level employee from FedEx. I was thankful to at least confirm what was originally just speculation.
I also learned that the snakes were in transition- in the warehouse and traveling around Tennessee and Arkansas for 6 days until they arrived at the rescue facility on 9/30, according to Jenna, who took in the animals at the rescue center. I do not have first-hand confirmation of when the package was first located or when it was first opened, but I do know that whoever opened the box was unable to identify who shipped the snakes or who the intended recipient of the shipment was.
According to Jenna, there is a man named Joel who works at the Museum of Discovery in Arkansas who, I learned, is a missing link to how the snakes arrived at the rescue center. Apparently someone at FedEx knows Joel and contacted him to see if he could take the snakes. I have not spoken to Joel so I cannot confirm this, but it's plausible if nothing else.
After Jenna received the shipping supplies from SYR, she shipped the snakes, I had purchased, back to Jereme on the evening of 10/7 and they were delivered the next morning in California. Here is the tracking number 796857204020
It's even more upsetting to me now that Jereme James (Heronboy) knew my snakes were not only in an animal rescue facility, but that they were unaccounted for and passed around (who knows where) for nearly a week.
It's also more apparent that Jereme James can't be trusted with his word and that he should have refunded my money that first week -and then worked with FedEx to retrieve his snakes.
