In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Captive Bred Reptiles - Stay the Heck Away

That happened in Ohio not Kentucky.. just more ammo the oda can use against the big snakes.. seems they're focusing on the exotic mammals and basically abusing them. But this guy was feeding a 20 ft retic without tongs? I'm sorry but that just seems like a very stupid mistake to make. The op says the snakes were unhealthy and poorly kept, seems he really didn't know what he was doing and may have just set us back in ohio even further..

I've been to the location in columbus several times. It's disgusting. The animals are kept horribly, most are skinny and half the animals there are illegal including the alligators that free roam the store and big constrictors that he doesn't have permits for. Terry, the owner, is the one that got messed up by the snake today. Maybe those snakes will finally get moved to proper care.

Animal store owner crushed by python

he owner of a reptile store in Newport, Ohio, was recovering after police pried off a 20-foot python that was wrapped around his head, neck and torso, crushing him on Monday.

Two officers pulled the the 125-pound snake off Terry Wilkens, owner of Captive Born Reptiles, police chief Tom Collins said.

Wilkens was not breathing when officers freed him, Collins said, but he resumed breathing before he was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Collins said the victim appeared to be doing O.K. at the hospital and was talking.

The call came around 11 a.m. and Lt. Gregory Ripberger and Sgt. Daron Armberg were at the store within minutes, Collins said.

"It was only by the grace of God that one of the officers knew how to deal with snakes," Collins said.

Ripberger grabbed the snake by the head and worked to uncurl it off Wilkens' body. Collins and other officers pulled Wilkens by his legs to free him.

The snake had begun to coil around Ripberger's arm before the officers were able to return it to its enclosure.

"It was a horrific event," Collins said.

Collins said Wilkens was feeding the snake when it latched onto his arm.

Gary Collins, who owns Galaxie Skate Shop, located three doors down, said Captive Born Reptiles has only been in business for two months and Wilkens was the owner.

Collins said a woman who was learning how to care for the snake called 911.

Pythons are a variety of constrictor, which kill their prey by wrapping coils of their bodies around the prey and squeezing, according to the San Diego Zoo.

The snake was being held at the store. Police were working with animal control to determine if the animal should be removed from the shop.

False. It occurred in Kentucky at Terry Wilkins KY store. Not in Ohio.
There is an article, that states Newport, OH, and it is a typo. It should have read Newport, KY. Other articles have it correct in having typed Newport, KY.
Plus, the one Galaxie Skate Shop, mentioned in article, is in Newport, KY (a couple of doors down from CBR).
Also, Newport, KY officers responded.
There was also another article that stated the snake was in compliance with KY laws.
I do agree, however, that we do not need any more bad publicity.

Well his original store is in ohio. Either way we don't need this. He obviously wasn't using proper feeding procedures and now the rest of us have to pay for it. Yea sucks he got caught up but this man should have known better.

The article I posted in post #25 is from his Ohio store. The Newport (Ohio) police responded to the emergency call. Was there a separate incident at his store in Kentucky?

Here is the article that was posted yesterday. Source: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2015/10/05/animal-store-owner-crushed-python/73396696/

The owner of a reptile store on Monmouth Street in Newport appears to be recovering after officers pried off a 20-foot python that was wrapped around his head, neck and torso, crushing him on Monday.

Two Newport officers pulled the the 125-pound snake off Terry Wilkens, owner of Captive Born Reptiles, police chief Tom Collins said.

There was blood everywhere and Wilkens was not breathing when officers were trying to free him, Collins said, but he did resume breathing before he was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Collins said the man was feeding the snake when it latched onto his arm.

Gary Collins, who owns Galaxie Skate Shop, three doors down, said Captive Born Reptiles has only been in business for two months and that the man who was attacked was the owner of the store.

The store's website lists two locations, one at 633 Monmouth St. and the other in Columbus.

Gary Collins said the man was with a woman who was learning how to care for the snake. That woman called 911.

Pythons are a variety of constrictor, which kill their prey by wrapping coils of their bodies around the prey and squeezing, according to the San Diego Zoo website.

The snake is currently alive and being held at the store where the incident occurred. Police are working with animal control to determine if the animal will need to be removed from the shop.

The Enquirer will update this story

Okay, I stand corrected. I had to look up the officer who responded. Police chief Tom Collins is out of Newport, Kentucky. Bad reporting on the newspaper to have a location typo two articles in a row.

I agree. It is bad reporting to have that typo two articles in a row.

Yes, Collins is the Police Chief in Newport, Ky.
Also, Monmouth street is in Kentucky and is the location of Terry's second store.
Terry's first store is on Morse Rd. in Columbus, OH.

Yeah it's not so great for the USARK suit when one of the people involved ends up in the national news when a feeding accident sends him to the hospital.

He obviously wasn't using proper feeding procedures and now the rest of us have to pay for it. Yea sucks he got caught up but this man should have known better.
Actually do we know what procedure he was using to feed?

Also I couldn't imagine AC keeping the snake for very long if it ends up seized. Most can barely accomodate a ball python, never mind a 20 foot retic.

There's many conflicting stories, apparently there's a friends account that was told to that friend by this guy and posted to retic nation (was told this by someone in my group) that he says he was cleaning, got bit on the arm, and he fell and got a concussion that he wasn't constricted and that the reports are lies, if anyone here is a member of the retic nation on facebook (I am not) could you go verify this? Apparently he told his assistant that was learning how to care for them to get hot water to get the snake to release and she called the cops instead. But I was told he was unconscious from the fall when she called so there is too much conflicting information. Again if someone is a member of the retic nation please go screen shot that if it does exist.

If you listen to Terry's female assistant's 911 call and the police traffic, at the time of the incident, Terry was wrapped (and constricted) by the snake.

I'm just repeating what I was told. Like I said if anyone is in retic nation on facebook please go try to find that post and screen shot it.

Even his own daughters account is different than what the news says, what he supposedly says, etc. He needs to make a public statement and clear up all speculation not have his friends or daughter do it.

So who exactly is this thread about? CAPTIVE BORN REPTILES or CAPTIVE BRED REPTILES?

The 911 call is toward the top of the webpage.
Scroll down, further, for the police traffic.
