In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Damn............

Thanks... I will try and get ahold of the owner tonight after work.

I'm the guy Kevin was referring to...Rich, I added your banner into my site's ad rotation. It's not a huge site by any means, but we're a tight knit little group and we're slowly growing so hopefully at the very least we can attract a few new members for you.

I will also be looking into advertising my website in the near future when I have some money to spare...there are two main sites I'm considering advertising on. One being reptilegeeks.com and the other one being here.

I think the biggest issue with paid memberships is in this day and age, most people believe if it's on the internet, it should be free and they're so used to getting everything free that they will rarely pay for anything that isn't. I'm not gonna pretend I'm any different...I download music, use cracked software, and avoid anything that costs money simply for usage like the plague (but not anymore because that's illegal...:ack2:)...though if there's something I feel strongly for, I will try to get a little extra cash and pay for it. I'm just saying this based on my own experiences with my website...I offer paid memberships with a few perks, but when people can access it for free either with less perks or somewhere else, they won't pay for it.

Anyway, I'm rambling....been working on a webdesign project and I'm tired. Rich, I wish you the best and while my site is nowhere NEAR as large as yours, if there's anything I can do to help you out or if you'd be interested in any kind of exchange of services, please contact me and I'll do what I can to help out a fellow hobbyist.

Josh

I think I can do it... just like it is... now just gotta download it so I can play :)

Kevin,
If you can't do it, let me know...I can prolly do it fairly easily. Would definitely make for a cool full page ad. The only issue is if you make it with clickable links, it will NOT be able to be embedded onto a website. However, you could set up an image map and you could get people to post it as a webpage in places. ...or something. haha. If you can do it, you'll see what I mean...if you can't, I'll show you what I mean. lol

Stephanie Kunder has already done a bang up job creating a flier for this site -> http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/flier/fc_flier.pdf (be careful when you click on that link. It's a HUGE file)

It's in color and looks VERY nice, I think. I have it on my TODO list to take this file to my printer and have him make up a bunch of fliers for me, but it just hasn't risen to the top of the list yet. I know I should feel like I need to make this a higher priority, but I have a BUNCH of baby corn snakes hatched out that need my attention more right now. As anyone who works with live animals knows, they ALWAYS tend to be the top priority when you have a choice in the matter.

Rich,
I will talk to Steph and see if she can get me that in B&W. I already have the printing costs covered for the year for 1000 fliers at each of my 5 shows next year, so as long as you want me to do it, fliers will be out. She is doing the graphic work for the show, so I am in close contact with her, no biggie.
I was passing out a few of the color fliers at the show on Saturday, but I only printed up a few. Plus I still have the link to the site on the front page of my show site.
I totally understand that the babies need to take priority over the fliers, so go take care of those guys. Things will get better here, just let us members take the advertising as a priority for what we can do now. I feel like I at least owe you that for what this site has done for me already.

Hey Kelly...have you asked whoever you're going to have print the fliers, if they can just set the printer to print b&w? I think most of those folks who print large numbers of fliers like that can use a colored flier and just set the printer to print in b&w. Could save you the hassle of contacting the original designer of the flyer.

Josh,

I can check, I just want to make sure that the flier comes out looking ok in BW before having them do mass amounts, you know? The lucky thing is, I am already working with the original designer for some graphic work for my show site, AND she only lives about 20 minutes from me, so it shouldn't be too difficult to get in touch.
By the way, that's a pretty awesome thing you are doing over at your site!

Haha, yeah, I gotcha...and I guess that's not too much of a hassle contacting her then. lol

I'm always willing to help out fellow reptile hobbyists...my site was never developed with the intent of making mass amounts of money. It started out as a group of us who had known each other for years and we needed a new set of forums because the admins of the forums we used to post on had randomly begun banning people for bogus reasons. I never expected it to actually last and kinda created things on a whim. But we've been around for 3 years as of October 5th and we're still kicking...a lot of us have known each other online for the better part of 10 years now. We're all a real close group...we had a member lose his house in one of the bad CA forest fires a while back and we teamed up with LLLReptile to raise money to help him replace his all his herp stuff. LLLReptile agreed to match 50% of all the money we earned and gave him store credit for the entire amount (he lives near LLLReptile and was a frequent customer of theirs)...thanks to our members and LLLReptile we managed to raise around $1,000 for him.

Anyway...didn't mean to ramble and take this thread off-topic (sorry Rich! lol), but just thought I'd explain kinda how we operate. By the way, you're the one just starting up a new reptile show aren't you? When I get some money, ideas, and materials together, I'll hit you up off the boards...was wanting to discuss some stuff with you. I'd just drop you an email/pm now...but you can see how bad I'm already rambling lol. Okay, time for bed.

Thanks Josh

I doubt that sort of information would be easy, if even possible, to determine.

Yeah, been going through the stats seeing how many people haven't logged in within the past year or more, nor made any posts here. I will likely just delete their registrations (all 24,000 of them) to free up the member names they have reserved and obviously had no intention of using here. I think I just need to chop out some dead wood around here. Which means many of the discussion forums as well. I think based on the traffic (or lack thereof) having a single Snakes Discussion Forum and a single Lizards Discussion Forum would more than suffice for those sections.

And I may need to get more creative with the advertising offerings here as well in order to try to generate revenue to keep this site afloat. If anyone hasn't noticed that green bar banner ad at the top of the screen about helping to keep the BOI alive, that wasn't put there as a joke.

I want to help keep the BOI alive so I just went ahead & signed up for membership. I really had not given it any thought until I read the thread started by jasballs. I think this forum is EXTREMELY important, and should not be allowed to disappear. I hope more members join in to contribute financially. I hope to upgrade my membership soon...

Thank you for helping out. You have NO idea how much it pains me to think I may have to shut down the BOI after all these years. But I just have to be realistic about things....... If there were no financial "sword of Damoclese" associated with it, it would be no problem. But the day is certainly coming where the expense of a lawsuit (even one I would certainly win) would be a very real concern for me.

Can't the BOI go LLC, with some of the olders being sponsors for the cost of running the forum every year..the concern that they could get any of your personal belongings would be reduced.

FaunaClassifieds IS a LLC already, but someone still has to foot the bill for the legal costs, regardless.

As one of my attorneys once told me if you can't afford to go to court, then you have NO rights in this country whatsoever. Anyone with the financial means can take what they want from you for the cost of filing a lawsuit.

I did post a low resolution copy of the flyer for people to download for inclusion on a website as a sort of banner in the original Fauna Flyer thread. Right click, save, host somewhere and insert into your website.

Photobucket can be used to host and acquire (and then edit) the HTML code:

<a href="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z112/TripleMoonsExotic/fauna-flyer.jpg" border="0" alt="Fauna Classifieds"></a>

The above code is actually live and I don't plan on removing it, so for those that don't exactly know what they're doing...Feel free to just use it, I don't care.

Kelly, I'll send you over a b/w copy when I return you e-mail about the other things we were discussing. I might have to do some contrast adjustments, but I'm not sure just yet. Rich, if adjustments need made for b/w, I'll send that over to you too so you don't have to worry about it. :)

To anyone considering editing the Flyer...Please keep in mind that the reptile photos used are not stock photography but my own and one other members. I got permission from the owner of the one photo to use only with this Flyer, and I did not give permission for my photos to be used for anything else. :)

Stephanie... as a photographer I understand where your coming from... all I had planned on doing was try and convert your graphic to a webpage with live links on the graphic for use to promote the site. If you would rather I didnt... thats fine too.

Rich,

This is not like you. You use to dismiss lawsuit threats and consider them laughable at best. Has something happened that we don't know?

Take care

It is very unfortunate that anyone in this greatest country on God's green earth has to be worried about this kind of issue. The above comments are the very reason that I support any candidate that is in favor of "Tort Reform" and "Looser Pay" in lawsuits.

I know this is a little off topic and I will get off my soapbox right now and say nothing maore about it.

I just hope that everyone out there that has used the BOI realizes how it has possibly kept them from being scammed. I know that I refrained from making a few purchases I might have later regretted thanks to the BOI, and have gone ahead and made very positive purchases thanks to the feedback I researched on the BOI.

It is an invaluable tool! It is worth $25 a year & more...

I wonder too. Hopefully not though!

Wouldnt a statement that is visible when viewing the BOI saying something like.... " the statements made by the users of this forum, may not necessarily be the views of the owners or other members of this forum. Because of this, the owners of the BOI, and members not involved are not responsible for the words posted or actions taken because of posted information"
