In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info Just got this from SYR

One thing that I know will be happening is people will still be using SYR to try and ship out snakes, even after being told not to....that will be a huge downfall in SYR trying to repair this situation

While I agree that some will continue to ship snakes as usual as long as SYR is still accepting packages, and many of those people will never see this thread.
But for those that do, it would be a good idea to think twice about it for the present time. I would be very hesitant to try to put a snake through using SYR right now because it's quite likely that the account number has some sort of flag on it making packages shipped through them to be more likely to be opened and checked.
This may not be the case, but since it is one account with large volume, known to have many snakes shipped, I would think it very feasible that packages sent by that method would be much more likely to be inspected right now than the average package from another account.

Interesting point, Clay. Do you think that shipping lizards is even a good idea right now? Do you think they would open any package booked as a reptile shipment right now?

I think I better email Robyn . . .

I don't know that they will or they won't, it just strikes me as a distinct possibility, especially right now.

Shipping reptiles allowed by UPS wouldn't be a problem if it were opened, but if they were currently checking packages on that account more often, anything shipped would be subject to be opened.
Personally I don't want some warehouse flunky messing with my packaging job.

It's not an issue for me though, since all I ship is snakes I'm not going to be able to use SYR for the time being.

just got this response from Robyn as to the probabbilty of the SYR shipped packages receiving extra scrutiny/being flagged:

Hi Lonnie, thanks for the email. Snake shipments get flagged mostly by self exposure on the customer's part. There is nothing on our site, account or labeling that causes any packages to be flagged.

Out of nearly 1000 shipments a week, we typically have to deal with 2-3 packages that get flagged as snake shipments. At this point in time, we won't be able to get those flagged packages back on their way to their destination, and instead UPS will look to return the package (or have it picked up) by the customer.

I just noticed there is nothing on SYR’s website about the prohibition of shipping snakes at the moment, there is even a prominent link to a snake shipping kit.

If people still ship snakes using SYR’s site then there is no one to blame but All Pro Shipping. The web site should have been updated before the email went out.

I can tell you if I bought a snake shipping kit from SYR and shipped a snake through their website that got stopped hundreds of miles from me or it’s intended destination and SYR refused to help I would be beyond angry. Not everyone reads these forums and I suspect many of their emails get stopped by spam programs I know mine does.

I just thought of something.....

I should have stuck to Leopard Geckos....

Anyway, if your going to ship non-venomous lizards, turtles, or amphibians I would still use SYR if it is your preferred shipping route. No reason not to enjoy the discount on shipping. Mark the box to it's contents and take a printed out copy of this page with you.

UPS Live Animals Guidelines

It is the page on the UPS site that states that they accept certain live animal shipments including those listed above. As a matter of fact I would also include a copy inside between the top piece of styrofoam and the box flaps. That way if someone opens it and calls later you know they will be holding a copy in there hands.

And please don't try to slip snakes through on the SYR account. If you get caught you'll always be known as the turd in the punchbowl that ruined the party for everyone.

I think SYR had to put out that email about halting snake shipments just to cover themselves and satisfy UPS. However, i believe its business as usual with snake shipments because they were never really allowed anyway. I think we have to read between the lines on this one.

You may not be far off. I was always ill at ease with the be secretive mess. I mean I don't put a bill board on my packages but no one can say I did not label it clearly.

I did exchange a few PM's with Mr. Markland this evening. Not particularly productive ones but interesting none the less.

However i have been setting up for a show tomorrow all day and am pretty much exhausted. i will post the jist of the exchange tomorrow evening

This seems like its gonna be a mess before its all over with.

Im thinking it was a mess before it started.... the whole dont label your boxes was a clue.

We are so on the same page.

iMO: Another attempt to get the "big" money.

Facts as I see them, without needing anyone to "explain" it to me:

A waiver that was READ to someone (could be wrong on this, but as far as I know, the general public was not privy to the waiver?) Very hush-hush because it's a "test." Not sure why it would HAVE to be hush-hush if it were an actual test...:shrug01:

In reality told the reptile community to "FOLLOW UPS RULES" (UPS does not allow shipment of snakes)

Between the lines told the community "Ship your snakes though us, we got it covered" offered snake shipping boxes, helped those that lost snakes and did not clear up the issue by posting on their website..."NO SNAKES can be shipped"..so allowed the situation to continue, and they benefited. :sneaky:

I don't know who was first to advise the community to sneak the reptile boxes though by not labeling them (BIG RED FLAG).

In reality, any service that needs their users to sneak, and be less than honest isn't a service I would want to use anyway.:shrug01:

(((ducks and runs))):bolt01:

You forgot to mention that they use a stylized snake graphic for their SYR logo. Why use an animal that they're not permitted to ship as their logo animal :shrug01:

Their shipping video also shows proper packaging for a snake.

If their waiver didn't include snakes this goes beyond simply shady.

There is STILL nothing on their site that says we can't ship snakes.

I have quotes here from another site. I read the third party quote deal, and I only see it concerning the BOI, and this is not the BOI.

I frequent several web site forums, and this is being discussed on several.

This first quote is refering to the email SYR sent out in regards to no snakes. I pulled this from another site. The person who said this is also a member here.

Yup I got it too...I did call ups and ask to speak to a higher up because syr said the higher ups know of the contract...ups told me there was no such contract.

This next quote is from the same person also.

When I talk to syr they told me they had several calls with ups not wanting to ship out reptiles, they even told me to quitly drop the box off at staples and I m question to tell them they are plants.

Here is a link to the thread I got those from, and it is on another site.

Where on their site does it say that you can ship snakes?

This quote is off of SYR's web site.

You must also follow all UPS rules and restrictions. For more details, see these sections of the UPS site:
