Bad business practices

albinos which is what i got from jon... run from 150 to 200 each
amelanistics start at 100 for hets and up to 400 or more.

Might want to think about that statement a bit and re-evaluate, then rewrite whatever it was you intended to say there... If you can't figure out why, I'm not particularly inclined to help at this juncture- when people are giving information as factual and it has logical inconsistencies, it's best they figure it out on their own.

LOL, I saw that too. I don't necessarily blame this on her. When it comes to AFTs I tend to think people market cheaper Amels using the term Albino and the breeders with the real quality ones use the more professional term Amel.

Albino is easier to grasp coming from the leopard gecko market, I'm sure.

Now does Jon sell "both" Albinos and Amels?

pick pick pick....god do you people have nothing better to do?
you asked what they run in cost for fat tails... i just stated the average price range for the different colors. god get a grip people
i didnt want to state what i paid jon for the 2 i bought for him in case hes selling more... god forbid i do and get accused of causing him loss of income for that one... gesssss

Okay, but
1- you effectively listed two prices for the same thing
2- if he's so bad why would we want to buy from him and why would you be worried about causing him a loss of profit on sales?

VERONICA

Just out of curiosity, what was written on the airway bill. Did it say live reptiles or something to that extant. I am at a loss to understand why or what made the box suspicious to the carrier at the point of destination?

Was the outside of the box marked at all? JERRY TRESSER

FIRST OF ALL I POSTED THE AVERAGE PRICE FOR ALBINOS AND AMELANISTICS... TAKE A LOOK AT WEB SITES THAT SELL FAT TAILS AND THEY DO LOOK DIFFERENT... I HAVE ALBINOS THAT ARE WHITE WITH DARKER BANDS... THE AMEL. ARE NOT WHITE THEY ARE MORE RED.
CHECK OUT THIS AMEL

I am still wondering why this person from the Company this thread is regarding has not posted on here? It seems he is contacting some of the other posters on this thread but refuses to post directly himself? This in itself is suspicious. i would still like to hear from this person on this forum addressing the issues of the shipping and such directly so there are no more he said/she said concerns.
Also Veronica Amelanistic=Albino in case you do not know. Yes there are some higher color animals and there are some duller colored animals in Amelanism. But they are all Albino/Amelanistic. Below is a picture of the best looking Amelanistic/albino Fat Tail I have ever seen. It is from Masterpiece geckos. http://www.masterpiecegeckos.com Some dealers will call their animals albino as this term is more widely recognized than Amelanistic.

Veronica...

Nobody was picking, there was merely an inconsistency in your statements because you did list two separate prices for a condition that, taken alone, is identical.

Albino = devoid of melanin (or at least functional melanophores)

Amelanistic = devoid of melanin (or at least functional melanophores)

Melanin does not directly control the appearance of red or yellow in an animal and as such does not play a direct role in the varying appearances of the two pictures you have posted.

Your attitude is still not particularly conducive to establishing your own reputation as a credible individual. Most the people here do not know you, they have only your words to go by in making a determination of how much weight to lend to the issues of contention here. You made a significant mistake in the manner you approached the situation, this damaged the amount of trust people may have had in your words. You apologized, this regained some of it. People are not attacking you but you certainly seem to be responding in a manner that indicates that you feel insulted or slighted in some manner, this extreme response to very casual comments and a few questions does not help you make your case for credibility.

If you read carefully, you will find that the majority of responses directed at you have been quite mellow, some of them were critical but none were abusive, and has people been inclined to be more overtly antagonistic towards you, there were a number of opportunities.

If you wish to establish a reputation as being someone who can be taken on their word at face value, especially in a situation like this were the other party has not yet made a direct appearance, you need to take criticism like an adult. Do not throw a temper tantrum simply because someone asked what you meant by something or told you they did not agree with something you have done.

Others have mentioned it and I have declined to comment on it until this point but... Using a disability as a sympathy ploy is an action I find disgusting as a personal matter. I doubt I am alone in that contention either, although I would never speak directly for someone else unless asked to. If you have a case to make, do so. Do not clutter it up with fabricated stories about drug trafficking, federal agents or debilitating conditions- people here respond to logic, fact and evidence, they do not generally seem to take kindly to thinly veiled attempts to garner support and pity that use unrelated conditions as some form of excuse for inappropriate behavior.

You may have some valid and worthwhile points that would convince people to take their business elsewhere, if you wish to make them in a manner people would respond to, I would recommend dropping all of the secondary unrelated nonsense and attitude.

In my opinion Veronica is right on her appreciation. There has been a general improper use of some terms. A true albino and an amelanistic animal are two different things. In geckos as well as any of the snake morphs. In MHO some of the snakes labeled today as albinos are not such, as they do have the yellow pigment.

Best regards.

please explain

I know this in unrelated to this thread, just Rob's post to it.

Please understand, I am just trying to learn......

Why do they call that albino? It doesn't look to me like it's lacking any pigmentation. I don't know a lot about geckos, but they do fascinate me & I want to learn as much as I can about all species of herps.

Thanks for the info.

I have to agree with the posters so far on the MS issue. I do find it awful if you are using that as a way to gain sympathy or allegiance from others. My mother has MS and has a pretty bad case of it and I do not appreciate the thought of someone using it in this manner.
Jerry, Yes I received your e-mail and the Articles and I appreciate them. Thanks.

Getting wildly off topic but...

The term "Albino" was first used solely for mammals.

Since mammals only have one type of pigment (melanin), an amelanistic animal was totally lacking all pigmentations.

Reptiles have three types of pigment cells and irridiphores that combine to produce what we see or don't see in any given animal. SOME people will use "albino" to mean an animal totally lacking all pigment types but since it was originally intended to apply to animals lacking melanin, the proper use of the term makes it a condition identical to amelanistic and has no direct bearing on any other pigment conditions (axanthic, anery, piebald, hyperxanthic... anything that doesn't directly effect melanin production).

Most people have begun to use the term "Snow" for the reptiles devoid of all pigments and displaying the solid white/pink appearance.

Ok here is a definition that should help on Albino/Amelanism "Amelanistic: "Albino" in the conventional sense; lacking all black pigment. This is a widespread mutation in several species. Amelanistic animals are often red or yellowish, instead of white like albino mammals; this is because amelanism does not affect the red and yellow pigments, or indeed any pigments other than melanin."
The animal pictured is what is called a Tangerine Albino. The normal Black/Brown coloration is not there and instead those areas are lavernder in appearance. I hope this helps you understand

This is probably more for the business forum, but its pertinent to the thread so here it goes.

As Seamus points out, amelanistic means "no melanin" or no black pigment which, stictly by definition does not make it a "true albino".

The term albino comes also from the Latin and means: no pigments at all.

"an organism exhibiting deficient pigmentation; especially : a human being or nonhuman mammal that is congenitally deficient in pigment and usually has a milky or translucent skin, white or colorless hair, and eyes with pink or blue iris and deep-red pupil"

That's why I say that some of the snakes being sold as albinos in the past are not true albinos. The true albino was just produced recently and had to be labeled differently precisely for that reason.

Just my opinion.

But even the dictionary deffinition, which isn't always the greatest for biological terms anyway... Specifically mentions that the term was used to denote mammals lacking melanin.

Seamus,

Specifically mentions that the term was used to denote mammals lacking melanin.

I agree with what you say. When the term was first coined, who in his right mind would have thought about albino herps! The example I was thinking of was the one you mentioned. The snow ball python will be the true albino if we stick to the original definition.

Best regards. :)

Seamu, I do admire....

~...your way with words.

~Although I was the one who made the initial statement about Veronica's physical condition, I did check her "homepage", as listed in her profile.

~I never stated I did not believe she has MS, I merely exressed my opinion regarding her use of her diagnosis as an obvious ploy to extract sympatheic reactions from those who were calling her on her behaviors.

~I plan to research her page considerably more. I'm truly interested in what she has to offer and if her actions on this board are condoned on her website.

~ By the way, nice looking geckos! If the ones Veronica posted include the ones she purchased....they look very healthy to me. But I am NOT an expert on geckos...yet. I learned, a long time ago, not to speak up about herps on this board unless absolutely sure what I was saying . There are many true experts and a bluff won't ever get by. That is not meant as a insult, it is the reason I come here.

Theses are some of my geckos.
