    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

How about instead of trying to focus the attention to our business, you worry about yours. You worry about how you owe us $1322 in animals that you have had since June 26th.

I'm sure that regardless of anything that is going on with our business, you are showing your maturity on here and how you do business.

Alot of wholesalers (I'm sure the ones you purchase from) read the BOI. Must be good business if they are here reading how you like to take animals and NOT PAY FOR THEM.

Well Steve don't get on your high horse and act like you are innocent here. you purchased the animals,,, you ok'd the shipment,, they when the animals were as you put it, horrible , mostly dead, mite infested, molded on the bags, and needed "nursing back to health". 2 days later the very same animals were for sale on this site, and on KS. so you sir are a scam artist and con also.
selling either sick animals to the public, or you fabricated the whole story about the animals, being sick so you didn't have to pay..! which is it Steve..? did you knowing try and sell sick animals!? did you sell one guy some of the "sick" burms that were "mite infested" out of that shipment,.? It doesn't really matter what you answer ( which i know you won't since you have not placed a reply to these allegations yet) Everyone know you are nothing more that a scam artist also!

Then sold them...I personally think he seen he had a good chance to rip someone off and took it, he figures they have a bad name oh well no one will care, so he figured he would get something for nothing, even if it were junk animails..he makes a fast buck off of nothing at all..I wasn't going to reread this whole thread, but did he ever even show poof of all these "dead" animals?

my understanding was that he and upstate came up with a list of animals that was agreed upon. they were them shipped to Steve. upon opening the boxes and bags, he said he found the mite infested, and dead and molded animals. then instead of sending them back , he proceeded to sell them on his website, KS, and here. and I don't think Upstate ever requested pics or Visual proof the of the dead animals, so Steve did not, show proof of the dead animals via Pics. but if Upstate did not request them,, i can see that.
bottom line is, if Steve did get a shipment of Bad
animals as he said, Why would he not ship them back that same day..? also if they were SO bad, why were they listed for sale 2 days later as
" They lizard shipment is here and ready to go!" What I hate about the whole ordeal is a customer is sending there hard earned money to these guys for animals that he stated were all dying and mite infested! you have got to be a really low life form to sell them to someone! if in fact he did get bad animals,,, he should have Just sent them back!
there are tons of other wholesalers out there to deal with. and if he had just paid what he owed,, this thread would have never existed,, and his reputation would not be in the shape it is in!

Dave and Joe nailed it in an earlier post. You people are brokering wild caught herps that have a terribly high mortality rate. The few (very few) reptile businesses that do well have been BREEDING and studying reptiles for years. Although it is necessary to import WC specimens for additional bloodlines, there is really no need for the mass importation of WC herps. Don't you know that our "hobby" and the overall reptile industry is being scrutinzed now more than ever. Don't screw things up for those of us who have been breeding and researching reptiles for the betterment of herps in captivity. We adore these creatures and will not allow the growing list of bad seeds to jeopardize the validity of such an interest.

I understand that business is business, but this business is rather unique. These animals depend on YOU for survival. They have been snatched out of the wild, thrown in some bags and shipped around the world. When they come to your facility, they will often be malnourished and dehydrated. It is your obligation to nurse these animals back to health long before any transaction should be made.

I know that this is a little off topic, but so many of these threads represent brokers, who deal, almost exclusively, with wild caught herps.

If you only see your reptiles as a means to an end, we don't need or want you in this hobby/passion. I'm not saying that people should not have businesses selling herps. I am just saying that you should be doing research and giving your animals the best care possible. If you can't, go collect rocks!

The whole reason for importation of any species is that the demand outweighs the supply. When enough people support and work on breeding programs in captivity then the imports will decline. If people would spend a few dollars more for the captive breds rather than the cheaper imports it would go a long way to decreasing it as well. It seems to be human nature to try to "get a deal". It's never a deal unless that is the only option or you are looking for new bloodlines. Another side of the issue..... Many people are getting into the business that do not have the experience necessary to properly care for imports. You need to be able to diagnose health problems and be able to treat specimens yourself before you get into this area. Many of these people have some background with a few pets then decide to invest.... You need to be able to do your own work-up, fecals and be able to treat them. Ethics also plays into how long you quarantine before sale. As can be seen. At no time should an import be offered right out of the box so to speak. There are dealers who can offer quality imports. However, as I said you should always support breeders and C.B. if there is an option with that species. In some species imports are still a necessary evil but, that is usually the exception. There are pros and cons on both sides. Loads of issues on this one. Plain and simply if you do not have an extensive background and the ability to support the specimens do not buy loads of imports or W.C. for your stock.
 
Update...

We are still trying to collect the money that is owed to us by Steve Smith and Anne Showers of the now "Southern State Exotics LLC".

We are willing to take the loss of over $500 to try and recuperate some money. As Steve came on here and publically said he would give us $757.50 as long we go through and send him a letter.

Here is the letter that was certified to them with a receipt for the certified mail.

Unfortunately this has been a learning experience in this business. I think it shows that businesses as well as customers are affected in this industry. Unfortunately now it makes it hard want to help other "growing" businesses, in fear that you can get burnt again.

So with the letter sent, per Steve's request , I am hoping to see the money owed to us.
 
I hope that Upstate gets their money, since the letter was apparantly sent. That will be a good thing that the BOI has done.

PS. Alison... you owe Tony a HUGE apology... gonna give him one?
 
Well upstate, you did everything Steve has requested of you, including taking a loss, a rather tidy some I might add. Let us see what kind of person he is by sending you all the money he owes you. AND not in payments, that wasn't the agreement. He made such a big deal here, so now he can just pay up!!!
I also agree with Sasheena, you owe Tony a huge apology!
 
I have to say Alison, you certainly are capable of coming up with actual, verifiable PROOF of stuff when it benefits you, can't you? I wish you were as meticulous as this in all of the issues you have faced here on the BOI.

But, the fact is that Upstate has done as was requested of them by Steve. Now, he owes them the money to which he agreed. Pay up Steve; it's now time.

I have no problem paying the money. As soon as I get the letter I will take it to get it approved and the money will be on the way. All I wanted is for them to do what they said that they would. I can say that I have learned a lesson here as well. So now everyone can go about their own business knowing that the BOI worked for me as well.

Allison if you release the web domain you can get paid for that as well.

The issue here was never the money, but doing what you said that you would.

No the money is exactly what the issue was, besides bringing to light how you like to screw over your wholesalers. If you didn't owe us money, THEN this would be an issue at all.

And it's not about US doing what we said we would. We have not done anything wrong. YOU'RE the one who has to prove that they are going to "do what you said that you would"

Please Steve. I love how NOW you are claiming these animals have been in such terrible condition. But only now when you owe money have they become in this shape....it's not called animal cruelty (although I can only image the care they have received from you), it is called "Steve trying to get out of paying for animals he received."

If you are going to continue and lie about what horrible condition these animals were in when they were shipped to you, how about backing that up with some proof?? Although this many months after the fact I can only imagine.
