I never "admitted the snake had neurological problems"....I stated that the snake was exhibiting symptoms that were similar to cases I had seen in the past where other animals had neurological issues.

The facts remain that the snake was in PERFECT condition when I sold it .....

Selling to an inexperienced keeper, saying it "might" have problems, and she is supposed to be assured because you didn't say it "definitely" had problems ? That is certainly possible Denise. The accuser uses the word "had", while David uses the word "was", and neither assigns an exact time to when the conversation occurred. Your interpretation would seem to be more consistent with all other things said than mine.

david is a good herper, dont get me wrong but when he's in a jam he tends to lie and do anything to get blame off of himself. when i bought the snake from him, he told me that it was not eating well. he denies ever saying that now of course. he also said that he was ready to cry when he saw the dead snake. he covered that up with laughter i guess, lol. he did not seem upset at all. he was cutting up and laughing the whole time. its also a little ironic that he refuses to pay anything back right after he loses his job and admits that the snake had neurological problems. he's a all around good guy unless hes got a problem and a reputation to maintain. since i was new to the forum that automatically makes me a newb. so theres no way that my story could stand up to his. he has alot of buddies to back him. which means he can sell sick animals and still win. that says alot about herpers in general. its a shame.

Do you have any evidence to back up these statements? If so, we'd all like to see it.

Sorry for not stating what I meant clearly. What Denise said above is exactly what I meant. I did NOT mean that the snake had health issues of any kinds prior to me viewing the snake at Chelsea's.

I contacted Chelsea inquiring as to why associates of hers were attempting to drag my name through the mud by making false claims against me, since I was under the impression that she and I had come to a mutual agreement on the status of the situation . I offered my assistance in a very civil manner should she need any help with her current animals and apologized for my mistakes throughout making this ordeal public (I was a tad hasty and emotional when I first posted this thread, admitedly).

Chelsea contends that her husbandry is not at fault here and the way she is keeping her other animals is perfectly acceptable. It is very hard for me to remain willing to help her out when friends of hers attempt to discredit me by fabricating lies about me.

Here is what Chelsea had to say about the current situation....

yes she did say all that. just when i thought it was all over, little david still needs more back up. i cant prove anything, i know, i was there. even though she no longer has a good rep. she nor i trusts the animals david will sell and will continue warning people of his actions. but sure we are all trailer trash. especially chelsea. she 17 years old and lives in foster care. damn her for not being a home owner now. but this peice of trash evedently is in a better financial state than david. when he was at the trailer he was crying the blues that he got fired and chelsea said, dont even worry about it now. if any of you saw him at the trailer that day and heard him the next, you would really think he shizophrenic. hes got a great rep but i and no one i know will deal with him. its too risky.

I have admitted my faults already. I was wrong for making the comments about people who live in trailors. I apologized to Chelsea personally for my unkind words.

I have yet to see or hear anyone apologize to me for the death of the Rainbow Boa. All that has been done in that regards is blame-shifting and attempting to discredit me in order to get Chelsea off the hook in terms of her poor husbandry. If thats the way its going to be....then so be it.

A few questions and comments:

• Who are you exactly in all of this?
• Where is Chelsea?
• Does Chelsea keep multiple snakes in a single "tank"?
• Does Chelsea really use potpourri in her substrate?
• Do you know what the temperatures and humidity levels were that the animal was kept at? Does Chelsea? Did she really keep it in a tank with a screen top as shown? If so, there would have been virtually no way that adequate humidity levels could have been maintained to suit the needs of that species, especially in winter when heat needs to be added.
• David has shown himself to be a closed minded bigot, but you aren't helping your case either by complaining and presenting no facts. Exactly what part(s) of David's story are you disputing?
• You have also displayed a degree of ignorance by referring to David as "schizophrenic". You obviously have no idea what that means. If anything, you have insulted people with a specific mental illness which none of them asked for, just as David insulted Chelsea (and others) by calling her "trailor [sic] trash".

It was no longer your snake and you are owed no apology for that. Get over it. The snake suffered, perhaps, but you sold it and no longer had any "rights" with respect to it. It would be one thing if this were an animal to which you had a huge attachment, but since it was an '06 baby (which you didn't produce) I don't see a lot of evidence for that. In fact, quite the opposite; if you were so attached to it, why sell it in the first place?

Jim....while you have every right to call me a bigot after what I said regarding people who dwell in trailers, I just want to say that I am not close-minded, nor do I harbor ill will towards those who reside in mobile homes. I made unwise comments out of anger. Who hasn't? Does that mean that we all should carry around unfair labels the rest of our lives? People who know me well know that I am not a person full of hatred, regardless of what you may believe.

I'm also aware that the snake was no longer mine, but I still feel a loss as a result of its death. Any time an animal dies due to neglect, abuse or ignorance it does not sit well with me, especially when it is an animal that I have cared for in the past. I regret every having sold the snake, this is true. I have no doubt in my mind that the Boa would be alive and thriving if I had never sold it to Chelsea.

I may apologize for the things I say sometimes, and my actions. One thing I will never make apologies for is my passion and love for reptiles.

that should also count for one time mistakes.(if thats the case) chelsea now has to carry this snake killer label for the rest of her life. so why shouldnt you carry bigot forever?

and for those curious, there was no potpourri in the tank.
the snake had humidity, the hot spot was at 88 degrees and the cool spot was around 70. not perfect but it shed and ate, always had access to water to soak in. and one day looked like a total differant snake. it changed overnight practically. it was very active before then. this was blown way out of proportion even if she was at fault.

im disputing the slander and exaggerations of the whole situation. and as explained many times there are 5 BABY boas in a 55 long temporarily. they are being moved do to my space issues. they are all separated when fed aswell. when david was here he was full of laughter and compliments and showed no remorse to the dead snake as he says he does now.

From what I read in the email from Chelsea which you posted, she doesn't want to have anything more to do with you, and to no surprise, this thread. I can understand her reasons, regardless of husbandry issues, as the headlines are there in perpetuity. I think it possible that despite what has been said here, she and Brandon may look into some of the criticisms, take something from it, and maybe even improve their husbandry down the road. He has already indicated that he knows that things, as you described them David, would not be acceptable, were they to exist. While the BOI doesn't always produce mea culpa's, you do hope that participants will learn from the experience.

How did you maintain it with an open screen top? What were the levels and how did you measure them? I've been keeping herps longer than you've been breathing and IMO there is no way that you could have maintained the humidity levels required for that animal in that set up with an open screen top. Having a water bowl alone is simply not adequate for this species. And yes, the animal might not have shown signs of dehydration until it was near to death.

I'm not meaning to sound harsh, but David, for all else that he may or may not have done, appears to have delivered a healthy animal that died in a short while in Chelsea's (or your) care. Seeing that photograph of that set up I would agree with David's assessment that the husbandry was suboptimal and could well have contributed to or in fact caused the snake's demise. The time course is completely consistent with that.

Excellent points, Jim. Once I learned of the conditions the snake was being kept in, I informed Chelsea that these were nowhere near ideal and could have contributed to or caused the snake's death. I was basically shrugged off, and of course now Brandon is attempting to blame me for the animal's demise by inferring that I sold Chelsea a subpar animal, which was definitely not the case.
