In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info Courtney & George Schertler - Retic Owners Watch Puppy Being Eaten and Posts Pics

A dog is not a family no matter matter how you feel, when you get back to reality it is a dog. They did not want their dog eaten and they did have them separated so I do not know why you people keep saying they weren't. the dog got out of his cage and ran to the front yard where the snake was. Do i think that was the best thing to take pictures of?, no. Would I have taken pictures?, no. Is it their right to take pictures of that moment if they want for whatever reason?, yes. Is it wrong?, no. Just because you disagree with someone does not make you right or give you the right to publicly say negative things about them and their family I'm actually pretty sure it is illegal to attempt to tarnish ones image just for the sake of doing it. The politicians are going to try to make the rest of these snakes illegal no matter what and will look for any excuse or any story to help their cause And with two children being killed by from an african rock I doubt this one dog, however you fell about dogs, will make much difference. Plus african rocks are already on the list so I really do not see how the humane society and the usfs are trying to use that story to get the others put on. My point this story will not have an effect it will come down to if enough people will show opposition to that which they have not yet. It will not come to these people ACCIDENTALLY having their dog killed not to mention the main angle for the snakes getting put on the list is for them being an invasive species which would mean they would have to naturally flourish where this law is going to be passed and kill other species in the process not because a little dog got of his cage and was sadly eaten by the owners snake. All of you n here trying to sound high and mighty should be ashamed, acting like you have never made a mistake in your life and had some regret. Lastly for you people who are so stuck on the fact they posted a picture of their dog accidentally getting eaten, not fed on purpose, which is legal to do just because you are so biased towards dogs does not change the fact of what happened and to put in perspective when guys in afghanistan and have their boys get hit they take pictures or videos all the time so they can remember that moment forever and those are human beings not a dog oh and also just so you don't try to add this is your argument, plenty of those pictures are on public sites just like the ones where this dog was posted.

Yeah whatever. Keep blabbing dude. If you think that what large constrictor owners do (or fail to do) doesn't matter for the rest of the hobby you're very, very mistaken. Dunno why you're white knighting morons who can't keep their snake from killing their other pets, regardless of your feelings on dogs.

I never said that. I think it is very important large python owners have to do certain things and take precautions. I have three reticulated pythons myself. I think it is even more important right now with this law the usfs is pushing but accidents are unavoidable and unfortunately happen even when safety is taken into consideration

Isn't it time to lock this thread?

Unfortunately, this is the BOI; and we generally refrain from that.

However, a warning was posted to remind participants that this is a BOI thread. The topic is somewhat unconventional, but the the basic rules apply.
Stick to the topic. If this continues to degrade into personal attacks and bickering, infractions can/will be given & people may find themselves removed.
I involved myself in this thread, against my better judgement; and the nature of my post makes it awkward for me to moderate it....but I'll have no qualms about requesting intervention by other members of the team.

Just because you disagree with someone does not make you right or give you the right to publicly say negative things about them

You seem to have no problem posting your opinion, and we are entitled to post ours, if we feel (as many of us do) that their behavior is irresponsible and that posting the pictures of a pet being eaten, bizarre.

I'm a bit puzzled though. You seem to want to protect these people from public opinion, yet at a practical level you must know that since you woke this thread and brought it to the top with your posts, there will be thousands of additional views of the thread and of people reading their names, increasing their exposure to negative public opinion.

The dog was not in any cage. The dog was, supposedly, in the back yard while the retic was in the front yard. The dog, supposedly, slipped the fence and met the retic on the porch. Their father/father-in-law supposedly simply watched this happen and did not care to alert anyone.

These people posted numerous photos of this dog with its face right near the retic's face or just in general close proximity to it. People pleaded and begged with them to not let that puppy near the retic and they simply did not care. They said that the dog was around the retic all of the time and the retic would not eat the dog.

Then the dog was eaten. Then they posted it on Facebook.

This is not about making a singular mistake. Perhaps if you could get your head out of the sand and let logic dictate the actions of your fingers prior to allowing them to type out more ridiculous chastising on this thread you could see that the issue is far greater than that.

This is about patterns of behavior.

When you have keepers with a history of irresponsible behavior which leads up to an incident like this, the community needs to be informed and the community needs to be aware to not let these people buy animals from them. These people clearly cannot control an animal that can be dangerous in the incorrect hands and, therefore, should not own it. Period. Your failure to understand this shows your bias, not "ours".

These kind of "accidents" should not be tolerated as the situation could just grow much worse in the future. These kind of "accidents" are exactly why we are fighting new legislation nearly every dang week to keep our animals and people like you and people like them just make it all too easy for lobbyists to point there fingers and go "See! This is what will happen!"

Now, I will, for my own amusement, address your asinine argument about tarnishing a person's reputation. Nothing that has been stated here has been falsified. They are the ones who chose to post what they did in groups on Facebook, they are the ones who chose to not heed warnings to keep that puppy away from the python. They are the ones who were negligent, reckless and constantly displaying a willful ignorance in the care, keeping and understanding of their animals. This is not tarnishing, it is not slander, it is not libel, it is informing people of the facts.

No one made claims of this being illegal or of their "rights" to be able to take a photo and post it on Facebook. It is about their stupidity, their refusal to learn, their refusal to accept advice and their willful participation in inaccurate husbandry, inaccurate security and inaccurate vigilance. They were negligent, pure and simple.

This thread is not about my belief of what a dog is or is not. It is not about anyone's belief of what a dog is or is not. You are the one dead set on keeping it to that topic.

SEPERATE: to be made to be kept APART.

NOT... To be made to be kept apart... Unless A, B, or C variables are applied(to include poor design or negligence).

There's no dancing around your disconnect Ben. If they had been kept separate, they could not have interacted. The owners NEGLIGENCE(by not ensuring the dog was consistently kept away from the snake, and further by not providing the dog a safe, ESCAPE PROOF enclosure) is what caused this. Did they intend for the dog to escape? Honestly, I don't think they cared to consider it. Being responsible entails accounting for the variables before they become problematic. In answer to what you'll inevitably type, no. They can't account for all variables(acts of God type things), but the basics? We're they to apply themselves only just a little, yes, absolutely. An escape proof safe haven for the dog, basic. Not having the two interact, basic. Complete negligence was displayed over the most basic of practices. That's not an accident. That's incompetent.

:iagree: :iagree: Perhaps the best reply ever written on Fauna.

WOW you people are ridiculous, should they have kept the dog in a steel box and then built a house of steel around so it was "escape proof" lol. they were told to and asked to stop letting the dog and snake around each other because they posted pictures of the lady holding the retic with the dog on the lawn. I did not see anything with the dog and snake face to face so I think you are just exaggerating like everyone has been this whole thread. When they were told to stop letting the dog around the snake she said she would keep them separated and when she tried, sorry her caged off area wasn't "escape proof" which is hard to produce for a lot of animals. The dog is small and was able to make his/her way out of it and went to the opposite of the yard where the snake was and got eaten, those are the facts given to us everything else is assumption from you guys. She made the effort after she was advised against what she was doing and an unfortunate accident occurred. Once again don't blame the laws on people like this accidents happen and will continue to happen, blame the people responsible for pushing the law to be passed.

I've owned dogs all my life, it doesn't take very much at all to keep a puppy contained. Certainly not anything near your suggestion, but it's good to know we're being rediculous. Particularly in light of your convenient omission of the photo with the chihuahua sitting next to a snake. Maybe it was just selective memory on your part. That last post pretty much is pretty much a poster for rediculous. Care to try again?

you care to try try again retard? it was not a chihuahua I am pretty sure that got eaten second it was not a puppy that was a old photo with the puppy you are further proving your ignorance on this subject and seriously the guy comparing children to dogs, go kill yourself

Yep ... looks like a Chihuahua to me standing on a boa constrictor. Also a four month old dog is, in fact, still a puppy which was the approximate age of Porscha when she was killed.
