In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

One thing I'd be curious about re: the video -- can anyone that actually works at a Petco confirm or deny that the particular very distinctive mesh bag that this iggy was found in is actually the kind of bag Petco's vendors use to send them animals??

I'm used to livestock being shipped in deli cups or snake bags, myself. I've never gotten anything except crickets or kingworms in a mesh bag from any vendor I've ever used.

I used to work for a locally owned pet store & when they ordered from a particular supplier, the iguanas would come in mesh bags like those.

In regards to the camera comment, In todays world, virtually all of us have smart phones with the capacity to record HD video in our pockets everywhere we go.

Heck, just last week newegg electronics had a sale on HD dash cams for cars, $30 and you can document your drive, useful in an accident suit too.

Everyone has cameras now, it's everyday life for most.

Sadly petco employees were probably told to not say a single thing by their hire-ups or else they would be fired. If Petco Corp. is investigating I would think they wouldn't want anyone talking to newspapers or anything.

Yeah, I like to swear when I see intolerable incompetence and neglect which leads to animal suffering. Count on me cussing about it. So f**king what? I documented as entirely as possible for a good reason. It's called evidence. As of today I have PETA offering cash reward for the arrest of the person responsible, my video is going viral, the VP for Animal Care and Education for Petco is leaving voicemails for me while I wait to hear from my lawyer & I'm doing TV news. What have you done today?

I know this sounds dumb, but I REALLY just think he wants to be popular... Must be trying to make up for some deep insecurities.

Please don't think I am picking on you here..

Making public noise works, I am not choosing any "sides" nor would I want to.

Public awareness and public humiliation brings attention, in this situation attention is warranted.

Silently walking into the store and asking to speak with the manager behind closed doors is not going to change anything, "please accept our apologies, and have a gift card to stay quiet" will accomplish nothing but a new store policy to lock the dumpster.

If I found this I too would stand on the highest mountain with a bullhorn shouting "look at this negligence".

Think about this, doesn't the SPCA flood our TV screens with abused cats and dogs to get attention? it's all the same thing.

With his previous lies and rants, it's very difficult to believe him.

His demeanor and rants have gotten him booted from all of the reptile forums I have seen him post on.

For these reasons I take what he says and does with a grain of salt.

But I am sure you are probably an honest person :) along with the spca, not a lying loud mouth who has a 10+ page board of inquiry on him and all his lies. I think you in a situation like that would be doing it for the good of the animal, not to get attention for yourself, I think Mick or Matt is doing it purely for himself and dare I say maybe a little for the animals.

And don't worry it didn't come off as you picking on me.

I dont think he would go through all the trouble he goes through running a reptile rescue if he didnt really do it for the animals. A reptile rescue center has to be one of the least rewarding (as far as recognition from other humans) jobs you could possibly have.

Who dumpster dives? I don't know about you but I see a lot of cracked out homeless people doing it (living in the bay area). If he needs reptile supplies that bad look on craiglist people practically give them away. And why would he use SUPPLIES FROM A GARBAGE FOR HIS REPTILES? Clean or not, it's in a garbage. And on top of that how many times has this guy been dumpster diving that he would happen to find an animal alive? And there is the fact that the stores inventory wasn't missing an iguana.

Just my view on it. It seems pretty open and shut to me.

I think that some may be overly quick to assume that, whatever it is that he actually does, he can rightfully be called a rescue operation. Anyone can hoard a bunch of animals, and solicit more of them on CL or FB, under the guise of being a legitimate rescue facility.

I have trouble buying into claims made by someone who can't even be trusted to supply a real name. Not to mention, someone who's seemingly just been caught in a lie, regarding his self-aggrandizing name-dropping. It's just as likely that everything he does is a part of his ego-trip, and serves no purpose, other than feeding into his already gargantuan sense of self-importance, and a pathological need for attention.

Aside from homeless people, you also get college students, punk rockers, antique collectors, junk hoarders, poor people who arent homeless, and people looking for useful stuff thats been thrown away in general. People throw away alot of perfectly good stuff. Just because it has entered a dumpster does not automatically make it completely worthless.
If you think only "cracke out" homeless people dumpster dive (and here i thought cracked out ones just stole) then you should hang around a college campus at the end of the semester, when everything is being thrown out.

I dumpster dive. So what? If I spend 3-5 hours a week divining I can make at least $100 cash. I am not homeless nor am I on crack.

Ignorance is a terrible condition and when paired with foolishness it can't be overcome. Don't be a fool and you maybe to get past your ignorance. ( I wish I could remember who said this )

Hi Kevin.. hope all is well.

When I used to live in an apartment complex, I was friends with one of the maintenance guys, he always let me know when they cleaned out an abandoned unit, got all kinds of great stuff from the trash bins.

My son has an awesome big TV set that was thrown out by a hotel after someone tripped on the cable and ripped the screw on terminal out of the back, the RCA plugs on the front work great for his PS2 and other game consoles. Just because the tuner got damaged does not mean the TV was bad.

Anyone handy with a soldering iron and basic electrical knowledge can take a "reptile" light from the trash and repair it.

I could drone on forever here, point is, one mans trash is easily another mans treasure.

Rescinding my comments about Mike Comella

Hello all.

Evidently Mike may have communcated with Richard Montanucci at one time back in 2008 so I rescind my comments. Seems maybe as though Mike never sent him the manuscript to comment on. My apologies to Mike and all of you.

Below are copies of mail between Dr. Montanucci and I. I removed anything not pertinent to the discussion here.

Kindest regards
Tom Greb

Tom,

This is problematic. It appears that I did correspond with him. However, I have no recollection of having reviewed his care manual. I wonder if he ever sent it to me?? I will look through my records. You would think that I could remember if I did. Perhaps I'm suffering from severe dementia!? I'll get back to you ASAP, but don't irritate the guy.
Cheers,
Rich

Hi Rich

Here is a mail I recieved from the Mike Comella after stating on the forum that you have not reviewed anything for him. I deleted his message to me because it was really not very nice. I really think he is unstable. Anyway if this is legit I will rescind my statement on the forum. Sorry to trouble you with this crap but I feel if I have made a mistake I owe it to this guy to take back my statement.

Tom
