In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Derek Beando Dbeando scams

At present, Vegan Cupcake is the only gecko who has been sold multiple times. All the others, and I think there is close to 10, have only been sold once (as far as we know).

Did anybody, here, purchase Peaches from Derek?
There is one gal, who did purchase Peaches, and has not, yet, received her (she was unaware of this thread).

kristy- vegan cupcake, rosalie, screamer x vegan cupcake baby, ruby. $703

my partner will be posting as soon as he gets home but he helped me with a payment on rosalie and he also bought Apollo. he spent around $200

Thank you Deb for bringing this thread to my attention.

I have also purchased a gecko from Derek (Peaches). I sent my paypal payment on Feb 2 of $200 for her and a followup payment of $50 when he finally told me how much for shipping. I live in WI so weather has been bad on my end which is why I haven't worried. At one point I tried to reach him on his 508 cell phone number and I was unable to get through. I did send him an e-mail and received a response (see below). Most of my correspondence with him as been through text. I wasn't able to find anything on him when I initially contacted him which is why I went ahead and sent him the money. He told me he had a couple of people interested in peaches so I would be interested in knowing if anyone else has paid for her. I will post pictures of my text message later. I'm at work and don't have a camera handy.

I'm not sure if it's of any help but maybe this would assist you folks in all getting together; I've made a publicly-viewable Google spreadsheet (badly, with apologies... I've never used it before) with the info in the thread. Some people have not posted Paypal/screenshots for payments so the numbers may be a bit off, but the amounts in the payments thread are closing in on $4000.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmHk_ekWiehddF9ScDdjU0ZMbloyWC02dVdLQkotdWc

If there's anything I have left off or need to fix please let me know, maybe in PM if it will clutter the thread. Screenshots would help with exact payments and dates though.

good news guys, Derek took down his website or at least is not working, why is this good? because this means that when we sue him we can say he has no terms of service which means nothing says no returns just store credit..

If he had them listed then you saying he didnt would be lying and unethical. And who is to say he didnt save the website as screenshots for proof he did?

Sue him in court and win the right way, not by saying his terms didnt exist when they did. I'm certain his terms are void the moment he intended to defraud (people) out of money but still....

Hello all, my name is Corporal Timothy Ury, badge number 503. I work for the Barre Police Department in Barre, Ma., hometown of the famous D. Beando. I have received multiple complaints of fraudulent sales perpetrated by Mr. Beando. If you have been scammed, please email me at my department email: [email protected]. You can also call me at 978 355 4991, but my hours are not very consistent, so it often takes a while to hear back from me. Once we do establish contact, I will instruct you on what documentation I need forwarded.

Everyone appreciates your time with this matter

I'm sorry this comment is not really on topic but it was good enough for me to spit pop all over, The text messages - He says If either of you make a move for me, I'll take the gecko back inside. And says Capish? LOL! OMG I never laughed so hard. Glad to see police involved.

I may regret this...the list appears to be looong a distinguished! But I am glad to help out. Now, having only seen one of these on a Geico commercial ( I'm amazed that they could train it to talk!) what are the normal steps that people take to buy/sell reptiles? Is internet sale a common way to get them? How are they shipped? Are there weather concerns when shipping? Etc, etc, etc...I like to have as much info going into court as possible so that, when the defense tries to shoot me down, I can answer the questions. Thanks for your input.

In this case,

a) animal is advertised on an internet forum (or website, or facebook, etc. but I think most of these people are coming from forum ads)
b) interested parties contact the seller, generally via e-mail or text, seller tells them what shipping costs will be to their zip code (these animals are shipped cross-country using FedEx or UPS overnight services so shipping can run about $50+ per box)
c) buyer pays - usually using Paypal
d) buyer and seller wait for temperatures to be safe for shipping. Reptiles generally ship fairly well but there's a "safe temp range" - with this species, the crested gecko, it's generally between 40 and 80 Farenheit.
e) if everything goes as planned... seller sends the critter, it arrives at the buyer's house the next morning, and everyone's happy.

I just wanted to add that the shipping is overnight as Jen said, meaning the animals are usually in the box for less than 24 hours. Not that you will all the details but I know people that are unsure how it works get confused by the shipping of animals. This is why shipping will generally run $50-$80, $90, or more.

This is VERY common for us reptile keepers to buy our animals online. Most states also hold reptile expos where the public can go to buy reptiles, supplies, feeders for our animals, ect. BUT online buying gives everyone a fair chance to get great animals. If someone is looking for something specific, online is the best way to go about getting it.

You geico commercial comment was cute. :)

If you all have google right there, a quick google search will bring you a trillion different crested gecko dealers. Jaybee, in this very thread, has a site. I recently purchased from Interhactivegeckos/Rick, too. So many people buy online because it's so hard to get decent stock locally for many of us. For instance, I know you're familiar with my area. There's 1 reptile shop here, and they rarely have what I'm looking for. The only other option then, would be to buy online.

And it's not just the reptiles! We buy their food (including live food like bugs and rodents), supplies, cages- all sorts of things online on this site and other places. Rodentpro.com, for instance, sells all sorts of small prey items for reptiles and they've been in business forever.

So next time you get something from amazon.com, take solace in the fact that it could've been hanging out for hours in a truck next to my roaches. :)

Oh! And as for how they're shipped: Anything I've gotten comes in a cardboard box, lined with styrofoam with the critter in a small plastic cup with a lid and the information written on top. There's usually quite a bit of damp cloth or towel in there to keep the little guy from getting thrown around and to keep it comfortable on the long ride. If it's on the cool side of 40, some sellers will throw in a disposable heat pack. If it's on the hot side of 80, some sellers will throw in a disposable cool pack. The thing is, they run out in about 48 hours and they only produce so much heat or cool.

Derek had every reason not to ship in February when temperatures were in the 20's and 30's at night... but it hasn't been that way recently, and he's suddenly cut off everyone when things got warm enough for him to ship safely.

Geckos can also be shipped using the post office. Generally frowned upon to do in the winter though. Summer is the safest time to use USPS for shipping. Only very small harmless lizards can be shipped USPS.
