    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Derek Beando Dbeando scams

I had called animal control numerous times. No one cares unless its a dog or cat. I asked his grandfather to please find out if there were any animals left in his home. I was actually going to make a trip if there were...Derek's being evicted and that landlord went in to throw everything out and found everything dead :( I think they've been gone a while. I got the news from his grandparents. Derek is currently in jail with drug related charges but they think he'll be released if he goes to rehab. I'm so heartbroken right now. I wish I had just gone up there when this all started.
 
This isn't your fault, Kristy. You did literally everything you possibly could have, especially since Derek would have probably shot at you if you turned up for all the geckos. At least, from the sound of it he would have.

I hope he's enjoying prison, if you get my drift, and I hope he rots there.

It was better that you didn't There is no telling what might have happened. No gecko is worth endangering yourself. And from the behavior Kai (Panther) experienced from Derek during his visit, it's better noone tried to confront this dude unless accompanied by police.

I am so sick and saddened. Is there any possibility some made it out in the box that was rumored sent to Calif?

Kristy I'm pretty sure the results would have been the same if you had gone over there. He clearly is a sick person and out of control. You just would have put yourself in danger and been even more angry and frustrated when you left. You and Nathan have been doing your best since this thing started. Thank you for your efforts.
 
:-( omg, this is just so wrong, i cant believe this, i knew i should have gone up, right when this started i was gassing up my car to make the trip up there and the corporal called a second time and said to just wait until he gets a warrent, i really wish we went with plan A, poor guys, i wish i kept insisting on going up
 
I am so saddened by this news. Somehow, I was holding out hope that some (if not all) of the geckos would eventually be recovered and make it to their new owners - or at least into responsible hands somewhere.

Even though Frenchie never physically made it to her home here with me, I've considered her "mine" ever since I purchased her and have worried about her the same as I would worry about any of my other animals if they had an issue.

Kristy, I am glad you didn't confront Derek in person. It would have been dangerous and you have a little baby to think about. PLEASE don't blame yourself; you tried everything you could think of. Obviously, there was nothing anyone could have done. I hope you can find a way to set this aside and focus on yourself and your baby.

I think it will take me a little time to get over this, as I have been depressed about it since it happened and am now absolutely disgusted and saddened by the outcome. I hope we can all find it in ourselves to continue to enjoy the hobby by focusing on our other geckos and the GOOD people we have met along the way. I believe that Derek will eventually get what he has coming to him, even if it is not in the form of the prison time we would all like to see him serve.

Good Lord, how awful. I don't think any individual should have risked approaching him in person about the geckos. Sounds like he was/is mentally/emotionally unhealthy. This is exactly what I was afraid of though. I know it wasn't an ideal situation, but I wish that officer would have been able to convince Derek to surrender the geckos and get them into a safe environment.

Its all a moot point now.

I am so sorry for all of you that have had to go through this crap with Derek. I am even more heart broken that the lives of those beautiful babies was snuffed out because of an idiotic moron.

I do hope some survived. Does anyone know if a box of geckos was ever shipped to CA?
 
This is just heartbreaking. Those poor poor geckos. I was so hoping for a better outcome for these animals and my friends involved.
 
I bawled my eyes out for DAYS when I lost my cresties to a freak, accidental heater malfunction. I can't IMAGINE the kind of person it takes to willfully ignore a house full of animals and not at least let SOMEONE know they're there so they could be taken care of, be it his family, his landlord, or whomever. That's just so... I don't even have the words.

PLEASE don't blame yourself, Kristy, this is an unbalanced, uncaring, unhinged individual, you'd have been putting yourself at real risk to go to his place for the animals. Who knows what a guy that would knowingly let animals die of dehydration and starvation might have done to you?
 
OK here is a thought, not to add fire to the flame but it is a thought. Even though you may have been in contact Kristy my first thought is could this just be a lie? If nobody has been there, the landlord or the family could be making up excuses for him in order to continue to scam. I hate to be the Debbie Downer but it was my first thought.
 
This makes me sick too. I can't believe I paid $600 for Candy and then he killed her... What a loss. Candy was a beautiful gecko and didn't deserve this. None of the geckos did. And as if the loss of the animals isn't enough - I have no idea how to get $600 back from a drug addict in jail with no money...
 
OMG! I could kill him. I literally could go find him and at least kick his ass. He lives a couple states from me.. what do you think? I wanted Candy as well. I was the next buyer in line if he didn't get her (apparently anyway). I want to ring his neck for taking that gecko and rest. He's a sick piece of shit! Sorry for my language. I do not tolerate any sort of animal abuse what so ever.

He obviously used the money for drugs. I'm sure he will get out and continue is terrible ways. He's find ways to get more money and use more people. He'll never change. I wish we could at least all go speak to him in person and make him feel bad about himself.

I am so sad to hear they are all dead, this is tragic for the animals and also for all the people that sent money with nothing to show for it.

I'm sure with him in jail, maybe Cpl could call the landlord for an official statement to help anyone who may want to continue to pursue legally, if enough complaints go to animal control they have to at least acknowlege the abuse no? Everyone scammed should file a report with the aspca/local humane society/police. This is heartbreaking. What a waste of life, I really was hoping to hear they were recovered at least in safe hands :(
