Fauna, the BOI, and Favouritism...

First off, I think my point has been made...I don't think I was really trying to do so much of "finger pointing" as of attempting to make a discussion of something I perceived...maybe right, maybe wrongly...

Some of the responses were dismaying though...I was bummed that Webslave seemed to take it as a personal attack, and I was horrified at what Robin did....waaaaaaay out of line. Karen H. has stuck her 2c's in a number of times at odd junctures, as well as David and Dan.

I don't really take the reptile business personally...business is business...so I guess that making personal "slams" to me is rather silly and counter-productive. This whole thing came about because I saw an apparent gathering of the flock around a few carcasses that had not been proven right or wrong over the past few months, and it caused some concern.

Having always tried, and not always successfully, to be fair in my judgements...I was just asking how all of you felt.

Well excuse me for not naming names, but I will give you some general guidelines about people who feel there is favoritism being exercised here.

• Anyone who comes to a moderator or myself saying that someone should get warning points for something, and we disagree, feels we are exhibiting favoritism.
• Anyone who sees us assessing warning points on someone they feel should NOT have gotten the points, feels we are exercising favoritism against the other person.
• Anyone seeing something posted that neither myself nor the moderators have even seen yet, and correspondingly have not acted on it, will accuse us of favoritism.
• Anyone who comes to me and demands that I accept their side of the story on face value, and I do not, will accuse me of favoritism.
• Anyone who comes to me complaining about someone else, and I decline to get in the middle, thinking to myself that they are BOTH acting like juveniles, will believe I am exhibiting favoritism. Normally I get this from BOTH sides.

There are probably more, but that will suffice as a starter.

For the record, I REALLY don't care at all about the personal squabbles. I won't chose sides, simply because I have no interest in either side. There can BE NO favoritism, because generally speaking, none of the combatants can possibly be a "favorite" of mine.

If my own mother came on here and posted out of line, I would give her warning points if I read her posts.

If someone whom I hated with a passion posted here, deserving warning points, and I never read any of those words, I would not assess warning points, because I COULD NOT.

That's just the way it is.

Rich, just in case you think I was referring to you, I wasn't. I do NOT always agree with you or your mods and have said so, without whining, at least I hope I came off as NOT whining, a few times. I do NOT think you play favorites, you're pretty good at staying out of things.

I am primarliy interested in who Greg thinks is playing favorites and secondly anyone elses thoughts on it. This does NOT mean I am not interested in YOUR opinion, but I do NOT expect to see it expressed here just because you don't, as far as I am concerned, play favorites.

there has been some "jumping on the wagon" going on, as far as I can see...and maybe that is coloured by my own spectacles...

Unhappy about some of the responses, but happy with others (oh yeah, you have to use a yoda voice here) we are...

Damn, too much to worry about.....

Just do what I do on my fish board, ban everyone that annoys you. You have barely enough free time to keep the board going, no sense wasting that time worrying about who thinks they are getting shafted. If they don't like what you have to say ban them and let them go to another site that won't "play favortes."

I'll give you an example-
A guy posted this pic with the following comment:

"Some people on this site questioned me keeping my iguana and my boa together. Look at them now. "

After a few doubting comments this:
"Well actually the grey head is the sign of a recovered 4 year old iguana who I have nersed back from terrible bone desiese and a severly burt head. The snake and iguana are completely comfortable together. If they were not why would the small helpless lizard sleep in the coils of it's hated enemy? In a converted walk in closet with so much room and places to hide. The snake is well fed and has been since I rescued her from the basement of some womans house 2 years ago. It seems to me that in all the experince in animal nature flowing through these opinionated pages that some one could realize that maybe, just maybe life finds a way to find the companionship that all living things need. So for your sake and your animals please learn to trust your fellow beings and not prejudge. "

Well after deleting the thread I warned him sternly to never post it again, last thing I need is a herd of newbs thinking it will work for them. He sent back a comment that he didn't like me editing it and was promptly banned.

His comment:
"I am glad to see you follow your own rules. **** off and may the gods have mersy upon your dear frail soul in the near future. So much for freedom of speach . Eat **** and die you worthless excuse for a life. "

I basically told him that freedom of speech doesn't apply on a privately owned website and told him to find another place to post pics of his improper husbandry....hopefully he doesn't find this site.

Earlier in this post I said I saw favorites. After going back and reading and reading and reading I have to say my position has changed slightly. I think what people may be seeing is not so much favoritism but groups traveling together and posting similar opinions against or for an other member. I hope that makes sense...........

Case in point Lucille. I feel she gets harped on a lot for simple enthusiasm. Many people feel she kisses Rich's ass. I personally think she has more loyalty to the site than to Rich. In a way I think she looks at Rich as her boss. And for all intents and purposes what's wrong with that? Lucille if I am wrong please let me know.

Wes has a following of many members and at times it seems people kiss his ass. Favoritism??? Could be, but all in all I think it's just the way he is. He's funny as hell and does not mince words. I even find myself at times specifically searching out his posts so I can get a good laugh. Am I showing favoritism??? I don't really think so, but even if I am it's harmless in my opinion.

Robin too has a little group of minions that follow her around. Nothing wrong with that. I suppose it must be her magnetic personality!?!?!?!? lol

I myself have my favorite members that I read just because they are who they are. Does that make me an ass kisser?

There I named names, not much to it. take it as you will.

Not really a far cry to me...still feel the same way about the site. But, I am not going to sit by without making some noise while some go too far down a path that is unfair.

Am I always correct? Where the hell did I say that? Have I made mistakes, typos, etc??? Tons. (which are usually caught by dand or one of his buddies...which is cool, it keeps me honest) I am not trying to come off like King of the hill here...just a regular serf like the rest of you.

You took the position in this thread that everyone jumps on people for little things such as simple packaging difference. I merely pointed out you left out some detail to that post, which included shipping through the post office.

Here is what I am getting at, and my situation is a good example. A while ago, in this thread, Dennis, through mistake or not, misrepresented my position on something to make himself seem insightful and clever. It was in fact, not a true statement, but, he is well accepted here. As such, Karen chimed in as well, calling me, I think, a dumbass? ( I am sure a few other folks didn't post, but had the same mindset at this point) Well, karen admitted later in this thread that she was just jumping on the bandwagon.

This is a prime example of what happens here. Someone who is respected can post nearly anything, and its believed, even if its wrong, and its up to the accused to convince EVERYONE that they are right. If people can't, or won't, you guys do a fair job of tearing up their reputation, even if its just to the members of this site. You all have gone from trying to be a service that we can all use, to a "say whatever needs to be said to win the arguement" type of club here. Its a real shame.
