I didn't say a thing about his asking prices. God knows we've been through the whole "it's his/her animal, they can charge what the want" ordeal too many times. It's funny how Reptiles truly is the only industry where some just can't grasp the term "market value"...lol...but hey, if someone can post a Cal. King for $1,250 on the same classifieds where there are 10 more listed for $45 and he sells it...more power to him!!!

I had an animal do this once. Actually she did it a lot.
But that was because she was sick.
She refused food.
I was gonna take her to the vet after I got back from vacation.
She never made it and died.

reptile buyers

Hey i didnt meen any offence, its just someone recently bashed me for trying to charge 35 bucks for leopard geckos. it was insain. but I belive that people investing money in a pet or breeding project should do there homework. find out what other are chargeing and find out all the info the can about the person or bussiness they are buying from. come on if some pays 1,000 dollars for a 50 dollar snake, its not shame on the seller its shame on the buyer. I would hate to say but there are alot of shady people in the reptile world and adding the internet into the mix just makes it worse. the BOI speeks for its self. nonpayments people selling sick animals , these are the people you guys should go after not someone selling a over priced hybrid. turn you microscoped on someone who isnt running an honest bussiness. I have very little knowlege from a bussiness aspect but we should support each other and weed out the scam artists and sh*t dealers. Every day i come to this site and every day there are new people talking about how they got riped off, I am just wondering if there is more that honest people can do besides bashing others. and sorry for calling anyone an A-hole i was just mad at the time but what i just wrote is how i really feel. keep an eye out for people who are doing wrong , not for something petty like miss proclaiming a hybrid a morph or something dumb like that.

ok maybe i'm an a-hole... in fact i will stretch this and say yes i am an a-hole, however at least i am an honest a-hole which is more than i can say about alot of other folks.

It's funny how Reptiles truly is the only industry where some just can't grasp the term "market value"...

market value is one thing but price gouging because, some people dont know any better and taking advantage of the new or inexperienced hobbiest is quite different. getting what its truely worth , supply and demand , the market value v. over exagerating and terribly inflating prices on less than par animals (most of the time, i hae seen a couple descent looking ones) or maybe not less than par but overexagerated and sometimes not what he claims them to be...

is it just me who see's this?
this whole board with the exception of a few are on and off, as far as neil goes... one week ya hate him because everyone else does... the next it's "god bless neil week"

i personally stick to my same train of thought on him..........

i do not take offense to it... i mean ya i can be one and let me tell you i can be a down right biatch too... but im an honest one and alot of times brutally honest and very blunt, and maybe this is where i faulter...... i simply call it as i see it plain and simple

No offense taken...lol...Neil and I go way back...meaning, he's managed to get under my skin on a few occassions(unintentionally I'm sure) and far be it from me to let him get away with it so he knows when I see an ad where he may be stretching it a little, he'll be hearing from me. Why?? I really don't know. There has been alot of valid points made here by all of us, the market - exaggerated pricing - seller's rights - buyer's responsibilty - and I agree, the internet only increases our chances of getting burned, but at the same time it also increases our chances of acquiring superior quality animals from top shelf breeders as well as smaller names with amazing collections and choice bloodlines. I still haven't been ripped off knock on wood but I try to cover all of the bases before I consider any purchase online. I guess the morph/cross thing was a little pre-mature, but like I said, I see ads like that all of the time, they all tick me off a little but usually I brush it off, today I didn't brush it off. I honestly thought it was an intentional attempt to mislead any possible takers...as Neil stated...it was an honest miscue, I should have kept my mouth shut.

Moral to this story...we can all be a-holes. Some honest, some not, but I betcha if the Gov't tried to take away our rights as keepers we'd all be walking hand in hand, letting our voices be heard. Most of us have at least one thing in common, I hope...and that's our passion for reptiles...not the money, not
the chicks (well, maybe the chicks ) but simple the amazing experiences we've been able to share with these amazing creatures that so many others don't understand.

Troy- you make some great points

and i did not relise that you two had a history, its kind of like you two are rivals , it seems like you are against each other but the bottom line is you are just trying to help each other out. and i guess its not too bad of an idea to post on the little things as well as the big. everyone has room for improvement and a little honest criticism never hurt anyone. I am by no means a bussiness man , this is my hobby , some people collect baseball cards or fly model air planes, I trade, raise and breed reptiles. and i do agree with out the internet I would be restricted to the low qualty local pet shops. I love the way this website keeps everything free , not like king snake where they try and make big bucks off users and ads. Who ever runs this site you deserve the award for BEST DAMN REPTILE SITE IN THE WORLD , where should i send the trophy

Howdy Ya'll, didja miss me?

Now some of you may not know that whenever it snows down there in hell, neil and I build side by side snow forts so it's not quite as antagonistic between us as it used to be, however, and this is a big however.........How many times does a guy get to mis-use or write down wrong or forget or mis-sex or just plain hit the wrong keys before a pattern is established?

How many times has neil used some excuse just like this one? I'm not keeping a running count but I would bet it's around 7 or 8 just this year. How many of you have mis-represented an animal of your EVEN ONCE?

Stop and ponder the preponderance of mistakes neil has made. How long is the flavor of the week club going to look the other way on this nonsense?

I have a scenario to consider.. A few people are jumping on Neil for selling his stuff tooooo high, saying he may be screwing an un-educated herper, or a newbie herper..
But has anyone considered that maybe, just maybe, possibly, Neil is getting screwed,, and paying an outragious price for the animals he buys,, therefore having no choice but to re-sell his animals at a high price???
Neil is a good friend of mine, and I agree that sometimes his prices are pretty high,, but i tell you one damn thing, he sure as hell sells enough of them..
Are far as the comment someone made about his "picture taking ability", at least he puts pics in his ads..
Some people cant even do that..

Also, Neil is dead set on using his "Web-TV",, which i have tried to talk him out of on several occasions,,(right Neil?)).
Web tv's dont have the best downloading capabilities, therefore making the pics look like crap sometimes..
As far as the "Morph" comment neil made in his ad,, he admitted that was the wrong thing to do, AND changed it,, however, it is no different than some people selling these balls with all these funky names.. I am not talking about "proven" morphs,, i am talking about ads such as;; "imported possible pastel",, "new bloodline" ,and all the other jazz..

Neil is a good guy.. He sometimes has a problem of knowing when to keep his mouth shut,, but he is a decent person..
His selling tactics work for him, and in his life,, thats all that matters..
You know that saying,, "if it isnt broke, dont fix it"..
If you do not like Neil, or his selling practices,, or his prices, or "charming attitude"..lol,, then just dont waste your time or his, and just simply do not buy anything from him.. I am sure it wouldn't bother Neil..

But, you happen to be right.... I DO pay a lot for some of my animals (I guess you should know, Jeff, I get some of them from YOU!.... lol), but my markup is very low considering.... when I had the store, the things I sell now for $250, would have cost you $450 because of the overhead....

BTW, Jeff.... my WebTV BLEW UP the other day, so, tomorrow, I am going to the Gateway store so they can hook me up with a connector for my REAL computer, and maybe, even show me HOW to take a good picture with this camera of theirs....

Jeff.... you're right again!.... I sell a butt-load of animals....WHY???.... not only because I have nice stuff, but mainly for the fact that I know how to write in English, I know what an adjective is (and how to use them), I can write words with more than one syllable, I know punctuation, and I can spell.... you think someone is going to plunk down hundreds or thousands of dollars with someone who has the writing skills of a three-year-old??.... Fat chance!.... A good analogy is your basic menu.... the idea is to get your mouth watering with the words alone, if you can do that well enough, you will then order it.... THEN, if it also tastes good when you actually eat it, you'll come back for more.... plain and simple....
