Golden Gate Geckos
Mean Old Gecko Lady
In January, my beautiful male A & M SHTCT prolapsed, and it required surgery to remove his right hemipenis. I was pretty bummed, as I was anxious to use him as a first-time breeder. My vet said he would be good to go in 4-6 weeks, but I waited 9 weeks before putting him back in with the girls. Well, he prolapsed again and it wouldn't resolve itself with soaking and PrepH, so he had to have his other hemipenis removed. Poor guy... he is so handsome and sweet, and now will have to be somebody's pet.
Monday, I put my Tremper reverse stripe male in with the new girls, and he quickly went to work. Yesterday, I saw him laying on his back in the enclosure and I freaked! He was alive, but had been severely bitten. When I picked him up, his spine was crooked and he tried to bite me for the very first time in the 4 years I have had him. I called my herp vet and a local vet that will treat reptiles, and both were off yesterday. I decided to put him in a hatchling tub and leave him alone, but this morning he has no use of his hind legs and his back appears broken. I am afraid I will have to put him down.
On top of all of this, I am in the middle of having my entire house re-carpeted and stone floors put in my kitchen, family room, fireplace, and both bathrooms. I have to completely dismantle my reptile room! The workers are doing the tile stone work are running a day late (reason in the 'Sound Off Forum'), and I was without a toilet all day yesterday. The carpet guys were supposed to come today, but I have a houseful of workers and nowhere to move my furniture since they have my garage set up with all their equipment, so they will have to come back. My entire house is covered with a thick film of dust, and I have heard nothing but Spanish spoken in my house for 2 solid days.
I cannot leave to take my poor, crippled gecko all the way to Berkeley to the vet since I can't leave the house when it's teeming with workers! I am so stressed and worried sick about my guy.
I just needed to vent. Thanks for listening.
