    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

We're the couple that were raided back in January. We'd like to thank everyone for their support and e-mails. The Dubuque Three the three baby sand boas) are doing fine. We got them back and they are now living the good life outside the city of Dubuque. Through the legal system, the city of Dubuque gave us the name of the person who lied to them causing the January 3 raid on our home. The city of Dubuque stated it was James Stelpflug of SW Wisconsin Reptiles, Dickeyville, WI. We thought he was a friend. He turned on us for no reason and lied to the city officials telling them we had pythons, boa constrictors, and venomous snakes. All of which are illegal in the city of Dubuque. We obviously did not have them or it would have made headlines. It's true that you can't trust some people, but at the same time there are good people that backed us and stood beside us to no end.
 
What a jerk- Thanks for giving us his name- I know I will never buy from him and I hope nobody else will as well- Once again im glad everything turned out ok for you guys and wish you the best :thumbsup:
 
I don't like the sounds of someone who would do something like that for no reason. Does he sell on line, and if so where are his adds and what name does he post under?? Might help others out of Wisconsin to avoid him. Glad you were able to get them back!!! :thumbsup:
 
What kind of proof do you have that it was in fact him? Did he sign a written complaint or was it a complaint given over the phone? How do the city officials know that it was actually Jim who issued the complaint? Is it possible that it was someone giving his name and address thereby smearing you both at the same time? I don't know, maybe it's just my paranoia acting up again but something doesn't sound quite right. I mean, whats in it for him? It doesn't make sense.

My name is Gary Quirk, I have known Jim for years(8-10yrs), have had numerous business dealings with him and have spent alot of time with him in and around the Herp Community, and this would be completely out of character for Jim. I agree with Mark in the fact what kind of proof does the city show as far as Jim being the one making the complaint. What would he have to gain? Something just doesn't add up here!Are we hearing the whole story? :shrug01:

Am I mistaken, I thought you had pythons for sale there??
If you're in Dubuque how did you have them??
I've also heard that you sold hognose here in IOWA, Isn't that ILLEGAL??
Why did they take the boas from you and after they were returned you have to have them out of city limits??
Don't you have past hard feelings about a breeder loan that you tried to sue Jim about but that didn't work for you.
Why would you bash someone here??

I don't want to get into a tit for tat game here, but you're doing exactly what you're saying they are doing: Making allegations with no proof.

You thought they had pythons?
You heard they sold a hognose?

However, the breeder loan gone bad is interesting. If such a thing did occur, it could be the motivation behind all this, on both sides. Does anyone have any information about this supposed law suit?



And to be honest, I would feel a whole lot better about this thread if there was something more conclusive that "the city told us it was James" to paraphrase. Phoenix2, has the city released any documentation to you? Anything that shows the whole fiasco was started by James?
 
I've known Jim for years and did extensive business with him years ago when I was breeding snakes. I'd visit his place a couple of times a year to see what he was working on and pick up a few animals. I still bump into him at shows occasionally and touch base with him. One negative allegation posted here and people are so quick to jump to conclusions. I had nothing but good experiences in dealing with Jim and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to others.

The IP found to be "Mike Roe's" in the other thread was 63.230.61.104, does that match this "mike roe"?

Jim is the most stand up guy I've met in this business and this couple is making rediculuis aqusations about him.

If you have animals that you legaly shouldn't then why blame others?
They knew the risks, got raided, had animals confiscated and now want to blame Jim.

I've sold one snake in my life it was a ball python in 1995 to a friend and no I didn't rip him off!
 
I found this article about the arrest, etc. I have known Jim for years and have done lots of business with him. He is a good guy and I'm proud to say he's a friend of mine. The article says that the neighbors complained about the snakes. Read more about it here.

I also know Bill & Linda and I think they are decent people. I dislike the idea of this kind of stuff put on a public forum. It seems a bit petty to me.
 
I was at the Iowa swap meet last september and in fact bought a striped anerythristic corn from these people. All their animals looked very well kept and healthy with a nice variety of different colubrids. I don't recall seeing any pythons or hognoses at their table. Of course that doesn't mean there weren't any, I just don't remember seeing any but I WAS keeping my eye out for various pythons that day. I also remember they were crossways across the isle from SW Reptiles table. Jim had a table in the corner of the room right next to Twin Cities Reptiles who had the other wall of the corner and the thread starters were sharing a kind of an island area across the isle from both of them. Both parties seemed to have their fair share of customers and seemed to have prices in keeping with everyone else at the show.

I've also bought snakes from Jim in the past many years ago and was also very satisfied with that purchase. He's been in the business for a fair number of years and is well established as a snake breeder. I just don't see where he would have anything to gain by filing a complaint like this?

Ok, so your "allegations" are nothing more than hearsay that you're trying to use to divert attention from your friend Jim.

But I will ask again, Do you have any information about the lawsuit you alleged as well?

As far as what does it matter who "turned them in". If they were guilty of keeping illegal animals, it wouldn't matter one bit.

However, since that was not the case, and them being "turned in" may have been in retaliation for a lawsuit they filed against James, it does matter.

To be fair however, I'll say it again, I'm not comfortable with this thread without something more than "The City told us". Some kind of documentation would be nice to see.

Laura noticed that your name matches that of a known scammer, who the police are probably still looking for. So if you are him, I'm sure there are quite a few people who'd like to know.

An IP check could confirm, but not disprove, that you are the same guy, that's why I asked.

Nothing personal.
 
So far any evidence I've seen ( the article ) doesn't point in Jim's way at all. Points more at the neighbors than anyone else. What happened to the other animals that were taken?

So far I see a thread that was started , no evidence to show or prove it was Jim , the OP hasn't come back to answer up to any questions towards them. Not getting warm and fuzzies about the whole thing. It would be a shame if this thread ended up being a petty shot to slander someone over something stupid.

If they weren't guilty;
Why were animals confiscated??
Why did they end up paying a fine to the city of Dubuque??
 
Sorry Mike but right now to me you smell fishy. Coincidental that the person that claimed to be ripped off by a Mike Roe is Damien and your screen name is Damian. Not a ton of herpers on these forums from Iowa and what are the odds of two you sharing the same name. You obviously have some experience with herps and have an interest in the laws yet you just joined fauna in time to post on this thread and have ever only sold one ball python?

I'll apologize if I am wrong but right now things seem fishy.
