Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

James Stelpflug SW Wisconsin reptiles is a liar

This just occurred to me: Tim, by delivering that BP to Bill&Linda at their home, where you knew it was illegal for them to have it, aren't you just as guilty as you claim them to be? Obviously, for you to deliver it, you had to have it in your possession.

Erin, you beat me to the punch. Again, if your (Tim) timeline is correct, when you delivered the ball python to Bill's home in Dubuque on Feb. 2, 07, you knew full well that YOU were breaking the law, since we already know that AC had been notified by Jim no later than Nov 13, 06.

Maybe Bill and Linda were a pain in the ass, I don't know, but I still think what your apparently illiterate buddy did was deplorable.

Thanks for clearing up the mileage between these people for me Jim and Erin. It makes more sense now.

Just because certain animals are at their table doesn't mean they keep them at their home but:

In approximately August of last year, Bill handed me a box at the All Animal Expo at DuPage County. Jim asked Bill what it was, and Bill responded it was Jim's false water cobra that he had on a breeding loan. The same FWC that the two of you attempted to sell to a mutual friend in Des Moines. This snake is illegal to possess in Illinois without a permit. Jim lives 1o minutes from your house, yet you had to deliver it where it is illegal.

Doesn't make much sense either. Especially since Linda at the beginning of the thread said they were good friends and didn't know why Jim would turn on them for no reason (not verbatim).

Although I understand what you are saying and you are saying from your experience I still say that Jim himself should come on here and clear this up.
Linda and Bill are not looking like saints here either so it may be worth his effort to come on here and explain the whole situation.

Stardust - In answer to your first question, yes, there always a place outside the city for the animals. In answer to your second question..We did try to resolve the ball problem. We had purchased a pair of albino ball pythons from Jim. The female was a picky eater. Jim offered to work with her to get her to feed. At that time, Bill was going to Jims' to clean Jims' animals. Bill brought rodents for our ball. When Bill asked Jim for our ball back Jim refused. This went on for 4 or 5 months. Then Jim said our ball was agravid. We were never in a breeding loan. Why would we buy a pr of albino balls and want Jim to breed one???? The only way we could solve the situation was to take Jim to court. We went on line and asked several breeders how much she would be worth. We heard anythin from $3,000.00 tp $5,000.00. The judge was the one who set the $5,000,00 amount. Incidentally, Jim never showed up for the first court date. He requested another date be set up telling the judge he didn't get his mail. Jim showed up stating she might be worth $1,000.00. The judge, not knowing anything about snakes demanded Jim to return the snake to us. He gave Jim 72 hours to return her. Jim told the judge he was too busy, could we stop at his house and pick her up. The judge told Jim he now had until 5:00 to return her. The judge also told Jim not to come on our premises, to have someone else return it. Jim drove up to our home, Tim brought the box to the door while Jim sat in the car taking pictures. I never said a word to either of them. The Lancaster court house has all the records.

So, you're saying that James bred your female albino to one of his males, and then wanted to keep her until she laid the eggs? or, at least that was his reasoning for keeping her?

Was she in fact gravid when you got her back? Did she lay eggs? (more curiousity than anything)

And then the Lancaster Co, Wisconsin judge ordered the BP returned to you? At your home in Iowa?

That would kind of makes sense, the Wisconsin judge not knowing about the Dubuque city ordinance, which would excuse Tim for bringing it to you.

Linda, do you know when James sent that letter to Animal Control? A specific date?

Thank you Linda for explaining that to me and answering some of my questions.
It is good to know at least ONE of the parties are answering questions.

Albino Ball

Monkeywrench - Yes, Jim bred our female albino to one of his without our knowledge or permission. He told the judge she never laid any eggs. When we got her back she was extremely thin, though. And, she also fed. No idea what date was on the letter. Will try to find out.

To be fair, (not excusing Jim's nauseating behavior), he did feed, heat and otherwise take care of this BP for about 4 years, that they left in his care. That should count for something.

As per some others have posted, it's a shame when people can't settle their differences like adults.

Monkeywrench - Sorry, I missed part of your post. Jim told the judge that we were in trouble in Dubuque, and weren't supposed to own pythons. Tim was sitting right next to Jim at the time.

I agree, that an agreement between the two parties should have happened in regards to the critter. Sounds like an all or nothing approach was taken when a compromise would have been nice.

I sounds like Bill was paying for the care James was rendering with "sweat equity".

Was James trying to use your situation in Dubuque, which he apparently was at least partially responsible for, as a defense for why the BP should not be returned to you?

And the judge was aware of the City Ordinance?

Fair enough. What's the story, Jim and Bill?

Bill was going to Jims' once a week, every week for years to clean cages & help feed. We met Jim aprox. 5-6 yrs ago. We used to give him extra rodents for his animals because we didn't need them. Sometimes as many as 50. At the time the albino was at Jim's Bill cleaned that and brought rodents for it as well.

OK, Linda, I know you've said it before, but what happened (in a nutshell) that caused Jim to get pissed enough to abuse the legal system?

Jim never mentioned anything about Bill and Linda's legal problem the day I was in court, though he could have at the appearance before the last one. I had a stroke on January 23rd, and on February 2nd I was in no shape to drive, so Jim drove. The judge told Jim not to deliver the snake, so I did.

Jim brought evaluations of the value of the Snake from major ball python breeders. They listed the value of the snake at $2400 to $2,700. It was a 1340 gram albino ball mouse feeder that was 4 1/2 years old. Jim did not breed ball pythons at the time it was born. Bill did not even bother to look at the valuation letters that were given to the judge.

Bill did work once a week at Jim's for quite a while. Much of that work went towards paying Jim for used racks Bill wanted, bedding, deli cups and the like. Bill did not care for any ball pythons in the last two years, but may have earlier.

Jim did not abuse the legal system. He cooperated with authorities in an on going investigation. The city would not get in the middle of he said- she said squable. When Bill jeopardized his livelyhood in August, the fwc incident, clearly demonstrating he was no longer Jim's friend, that's when Jim spoke up.

Oh please. You wanna know what a sane person does when they have an employee/associate who is a loose cannon endangering their business?

He/She fires him/her, and does not act like a baby.

Why would Bill consider James a friend when James apparently bred the albino BP without Bill's permission, refused to return Bill's property when asked (which is tantamount to theft in my book) until Bill finally had to sue for the return of his property?

I would say that it was James who clearly demonstrated that he was no longer Bill's friend.

Shortly after the snake was returned, did James have a clutch of abino baby BPs for sale?
