Thanks for the cool info on scent-feeding Dan. Glad to hear the babies are doing well.
Dan Scolaro said:Actually John the advertisement states they are being assist fed and I think it was you who earlier said they were being force fed. There is a big difference actually. Also, your earlier statement said they were not feeding on their own, but they do and would feed on their own with frogs/anoles and scented pinks. And it's not a judgement call as parasites should be avoided at all costs, including the mere few seconds it takes to put a mouse tail into a snake's mouth. And what's dicey? The buyers are hobby folk who are experienced to raise their own newborns and thousands of new born candoia and other snakes have been moved in the hobby without incident.

Yes the rates were raised and that is what I pay today. to me that [60-75] is out of the 'realm of reasoning' ahh but then there are those expensive box and heat pac costsspawn said:Just a side note here on shipping costs where jc said it costs 60-75 bucks for ups as they have raised the rates.
I can ship anywhere in our wonderful country from my ups desk for under 45 bucks. I suppose making money on shipping there
Both UPS and FedEx have increased shipping rates into the new year, and I recently had frogs shipped to me via FedEx (I know it's not UPS, but both companies increased their rates) which was $75 (should have been $50 as predicted by experienced shipper), and other people who ship frogs have said rates are upwards of $90. So, his figure of $60-$75 is nowhere out of the realm of reasonable quoting.
I'm sure other routine shippers can chime in on the inflated costs this year. I just don't think it's right to blame him for tacking on dollars onto the shipping, and starting a whole other slew of arguments.

It seems to me that having had conversations with jerry prior to commenting on this thread would make your very first statement here a lie.Helenthereef said:I'm new to the site and to the thread, and don't know anyone involved, but it seems to me that people post first and maybe think later - the vitriol (I hesitate to say venom on a herp site) seems out of proportion to the subject, and I couldn't blame anyone for reacting defensively to some of these attacks.
Whatever the rights or wrongs of the case, it seems to me that years of having a good reputation are not taken into account when one thing goes wrong.
And just for the record, as someone who cannot be a potential customer (as I am a LONG way out of the US) when I first started asking questions about a sick Candoia neonate, Jerry answered my email queries promptly and helpfully, and was a great reassurance.
In your case, given the distance you actually are from the USA, I suppose you not being up to date on all that's gone on in the last few months must be taken into consideration.Helenthereef said:I don't know Jerry at all - I sent a question to his Candoia page and he responded. I'm not commenting on the issue of the snake sale, more on the manner of the posts, which seemed excessively violent. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think even the main complainant felt as strongly about it as some of those who responded.
My point about his advice was that he gave it freely and it worked, and there was no profit motive there - so he's obviously not spending ALL his time sitting in a cellar working out how to defraud the world.
Thanks for the reference to Seamus Haley, you obviously think he's honest, and I'm always grateful for contacts.
