On july 15th Kimberly Lucas posted ab ad on kingsnake.com for a "male moolglow crested gecko" Now before i go any further, i know the controversy about if moonglows really exist and i fully know the risks of buying a claimed "moonlgow". But i have seen true moonlgows in person, and i own, while not a moonglow, a WHITE based harley girl, who i was hoping to find a moonglow male for. So of course upon seeing her ad, i jumped on the opportunity. I emailed Kimberly requesting more pictures, specifically asking how dark his color gets. I received pictures of a PURE WHITE gecko, and was told he gets no darker than that. Now normally i would still be very skeptical without seeing the gecko in person, but seeing as this one was being offered by a fairly large and well known breeder, i decided to go for it. I sent the payment of $450 dollars, and a week later received my gecko. Now when he arrived, he was nothing close to white, fairly dark tan in fact. But i knew he was very stressed from the move, and decided to give him a few days to settle in and see how he changed. Well 2 weeks later and i've had him quarantined, haven't bothered him, and observed him many times a day, every day and he never got anything close to a white color. On july 29th i emailed Kimberly telling her i was not pleased because the gecko i purchased was not in any way a "moonglow" I will post the lengthy email conversation, but in summary, she refused me a refund, or to do hardly anything for me after deceiving me so badly. She offered me a $150 credit towards a future gecko, which in my eyes is a pathetic offer after what she did.
Here are a few pics i took of the gecko received from Kimberly. i took these pictures about 20 min ago, and he is not even fully fired up.
Does this look to anyone here like a gecko that could ever be called a "moonglow"?
In her emails she told me-
"I never used the words "pure white". I used the term "moonglow". Which by all standards... it is."
If i am in the wrong and anyone see's the gecko pictured as a moonglow by all standards, please tell me. But I see the gecko i received as not being moonglow in not one single standard of the term.
She also told me i was threatening her, to which she was referring to me stating that i wanted to settle this matter between us, so as not to bring outside parties into it. (I.E. the B.O.I.)
She suggested i learn something about crested geckos before purchasing anymore. But in my eyes, Kimberly is either a con artist and a liar, and deliberately sold me a gecko as a "moonglow" in order to jump the price up. Or if she thinks this is a moonglow, she is completely ignorant about gecko morphs and has no business selling them.
I offered to ship the gecko back to her at my own expense to get a refund and she refused.
i even said i would accept a refund of $150, which is one third of what i paid, and she refused. The pictures i received from her were obviously overexposed or otherwise altered to make the gecko appear white, as i have had him a month and a half and he has never been anything close to white.
i even sent her pictures of this gecko, next to my WHITE gecko, to show her how not white he was. Despite the lighting in the room washing out alot of his color he was obviously not white at all.
Our email conversation follows, reading from bottom to top.
Brian,
The reasoning behind my no-gecko return policy is that I can't insure the health of the gecko once it has been exposed to an unknown environment. The health of my colony comes first always!
I have nothing to gain from deceiving anyone into purchasing a gecko with what you seem to believe is altered photos.
I am not some 25 year old hobbyist who is trying to make a quick buck on some geckos. I have been in this business for a long time and I know what I am talking about.
You need to take some responsibility for this transaction and realize we are dealing with live animals. That gecko looked like those photos in my company and what ever stress is causing him to look different in your household I have no control over.
When you accuse me me of lying and false advertising you better have a leg to stand on.
You were not the only person to inquire about the purchase of that gecko and for me even to offer you a credit under the circumstances is a loss on this end.
I'm sorry you feel wronged but at this point I don't feel any further communication is necessary unless you plan on manning up and apologizing for your accusations.
Take Care,
Kimberly Lucas

If you knew you were misleading whoever bought him or not is a moot point. i'm not trying to gain anything here. i'm not trying to make you lose anything. i have no desire to screw you over i'm not that kind of person

I offered you a credit toward gecko purchase of $150 in accordance with my no cash refund policy in an attempt to make you happy and you decided to press forward with the claim. Not exactly sure what your real goal is other than to complain and harass me into discounting a gecko you knew full well what it looked like before you purchased it.

So you see no problem with the fact you represented that you had a pure white moonglow gecko for sale. that i paid a very considerable amount of money for a white male gecko. and i recieved a gecko that is never anything close to white? moonglow may be a subjective term but no matter where you go one thing is agreed upon universally. moonglow means white. i was hoping you would want to do the right thing and make this right, but i can see thats not going to happen and i will have to find other means to correct this.

Brian,
What I was looking for in the photo was to see if he photographed similar enough to the photos that I had sent you. The photo on the black background showed his color similar enough to the ones I sent you. I too have moss green females with white heads and white dorsal flame. (She also has a few dalmatian spots.) Not sure if I would call her a "moonglow". Which brings us to this...
Moonglow is a relative term created by the hobbyist. There are no all "white" crested geckos as of yet. That would be called an albino. There are geckos that have washed out color and look extremely pale for the most part and I guess this is where this term hails from.
That being said.... I take very good and accurate pictures of my geckos. I have an expensive camera and I know how to use it. I did not alter or overexpose any of the photos sent to you. I purposely held the geckos at many angles so you could see all of his coloring and have the perspective of the color against my skin. You were given several current pictures of the gecko and chose to buy him. I have no control over nature and how his body has reacted to the stress of shipping and his new environment.
I am not trying to come across as harsh regarding this inquiry but I do feel I have been completely open and honest in this transaction. I am a little taken back by the accusations in this matter because I truly do value my customers and and take great pride in what I do. However, I am not going to take a loss on a transaction that was very clear and honest on my part. I did not deceive you in any way. You received a healthy adult male crested gecko that looks like the photos I sent you.
In conclusion, I do not feel any compensation is warranted in this instance.
I was considering giving you a credit to use towards future purchases but after re-evaluating the facts I decided there really is no justification for it.

And they were very nice pictures you got but unfortunately its not ter accurate to the gecko in real life. its a common problem in the crested community. i do like him though and in the interest of keeping outside judgement out of this i would be willing to accept a small partial refund in compensation.

And they were very nice pictures you got but unfortunately its not ter accurate to the gecko in real life. its a common problem in the crested community. i do like him though and in the interest of keeping outside judgement out of this i would be willing to accept a small partial refund in compensation.

The photos were not overexposed or altered in any way. I purposely took the pictures with my hand in it to give it some perspective.

Well despite the obviously overexposed pictures you sent for one a moonglow is white and this gecko is not white even when fired down

Brian,
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that but I sent you several updated pictures of the gecko before purchase and you did not seem to think so then. What is it about the gecko makes you feel like you were deceived?

So this is a pretty nice gecko you sent me but i believe there was a mistake made i ordered a male moonglow and this is in no sense of the word a moonglow
Should i also post the pictures i received from her, to show how misrepresented he truly was?
could be a simple mixup?
