In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Matthew Oakley

Ok so how about I start a bad guy post on you then or on anyone else on here with not a shred of proof and I'll just go through and ruin someones name without providing any evidence that person did anything wrong. Thats what you are saying is ok to do Jesus.

Hmmm, puts a whole new spin on all those WWJD? bumper stickers, huh:eek:

I agree over all though. Proof should not really be considered optional on this forum. People will be making decisions about how and who with to spend their hard earned money based on these threads. It is not only for the here and now either, these threads have hang time and something that happened 3 or 4 years ago can still affect someone's breeding business. It would really be a bummer if the accusation was not true to begin with...

Drew- LOL I was actually saying Jesus because thats who posted saying he didn't have to post proof.

Kyle- thanks for finding that rule on here I was looking but couldn't find it.

The BOI is very well not the Supreme Court, and maybe it is because of this frame-of-mind someone may think it's not 100% necessary to post proof... But every member here needs to understand that when you come here and post a Bad Guy Thread about someone, you are MARKING their livelihood, and with all intentions aside, you ARE attacking their business and what may be their sole means of income. I don't think this should be taken lightly by any user to just post stories without proof of what was going on. I have to agree wholeheartedly with Dustin on this one: If you are not going to post proof, you should simply not come to the BOI at all.

Please note, that I am not directing my opinion to the OP, but to any possible reader here.

In addition, I am coming to the seller's defense here anyway, because quite frankly, I don't think a bad guy thread is necessarily warranted here, and I feel bad for the seller that he has another one now. The OP paid less-than-half (at this point) for what seems to be a beautiful snake. He received the animal pictured, the snake arrived alive and well and packaged correctly, and the seller has held up to his side of the agreement.

The seller was made aware of his displeasure with mites on the snake, and the seller, has in turn, seems to be bending over backwards to make it right: "I'm really not a bad guy and willing to fix any problem any customer has." He then proceeds to give tips to help out a stranger who may have never had to get rid of mites before. The customer feels amends could be made if he does not pay the full amount for the snake, and the seller asks "What do you feel is fair?" The seller has since than responded to all the customer's questions, and according to the customer has been very nice about it all. In fact, I feel like this makes the seller more towards a good guy, and this is why: is it bad he had a snakes with mites? Yes, clearly. However, the seller says he didn't know, is apologetic, and trying to make it better. In my opinion, I don't think an animal with a few mites would make any animal worth %64 less (assuming at this point he has paid $150.00 for a $415.00 snake), and if this the end of the case, the OP has just made out with a total steal. If this is not the final cost, hopefully the seller and the buyer will reach an agreement that the buyer is happy about, and it seems as if the seller is more than willing to do that.

Very well said Chelsea!

:iagree:

The question now is, what is fair? Ultimately that is between buyer and seller.

My gut instinct is to deduct the cost of the mite treatment from the remaining payment. While mites should not be a major issue, they are certainly an inconvenience and must be dealt with, and of course not advertised by the seller.

But then I thought, what if the buyer inadvertently transmits the mites to his collection? It is easy enough to do, especially if you go from Q to the main room without washing and changing clothes.

However that is a procedural issue that is out of the control of the seller. Proper quarantine procedures should always be followed whether the animals look like they need it or not, so I wouldn't consider that in the negotiations if I were involved...

Based on the agreement you had, send the $150 now and the rest once you get the snake and it is as advertised or however it was worded, I WOULD NOT SEND THE DUDE JACK! I would email him and say in a very professional tone, "I gave you a chance to prove yourself, you sent me mites, our deal is done." "I will take care of the mite issue and remove you from any liability if the snake dies or if the mites spread." "No additional funds will be sent."

That being said, you still sent money to a guy who probably should not be in the reptile business, and that money is what keeps him IN business.

Dave

Im trying to figure out why matt had him in quarantine if he bred the snake? Am I missing something here??

Bingo. That's a pretty red flag you got there. That's the problem with lying. Lies cover for lies to cover for past and future lies. That, and how could you not notice black adult mites on an albino snake?
Mites are NOT easily treated. Anyone displaying that kind of attitude towards parasites is surely no expert. Nor do they truly care for their livestock's well being, so they obviously don't care about your collection either.
Mites leave the host to lay eggs. They do not nest on the host. They have a tendency to travel upwards in search of nesting ares. The soaking will only remedy those feeding, not the ones nesting. In a week you'll have mites again.

I totally agree with this...it has happened to me in the past but the worst part is it spread to my ball pythons! I had gotten a nice juvie pair of bps & the previous owner never informed me of the mites. Since both were in a bad shed, I really couldn't see them. I had them in a tank over my vision cages & it spread like wildfire! Been out of balls for a while now, but all were treated before they were sold & no, I'm not a scumbag,...I informed the buyers of their histories!

Dustin,....you forgot the Hot Shot No Pest Strips! It helped my bps out a LOT! =)

haha barbara you don't suck at the forum thing, you make great points on here. I've never used the hot shot strips and hopefully I won't have any need to use them in the future lol but yeah mites can be a nightmare to get rid of and sometimes when you think you got them all you still have eggs in the container that haven't hatched yet.
