Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I am writing this out of regret but feel as if my hand had been forced. I have had an ongoing transaction with Mike Fortier of Sand & Sun Reptiles for a little over 2 months now. Why I regret writing this is I considered and still consider Mike to be a friend whom I have had contact with for a number of years in a Reptile Chat room I frequent. As many of you have seen, and some of you have purchased some of the gorgeous corn snakes I have been selling on Fauna here in the classifieds. Well about two months ago Mike had contacted me through a friend saying he was looking for some corns. After about 2 weeks of sending him hatch dates, feeding records, shed dates, and literally dozens of pictures for him to decide what he wanted, he chose a total of 9 snakes of various morphs of which I gave him a very considerable discount. He said he would send a money order for the full amount at a giving day. Time passed and I contacted him to make sure it was sent and all was well as I know how the PO can have problems, and he would send it out in the next couple of days. He had told me on one occasion that the money order was sent, and when it didn’t arrive again I asked him and he said that he may have not sent it by accident. It was no accident, I will post a link to the corn snake photo gallery where he states he sent it around Thanksgiving when truly it was never sent to verify it. That will also give you a time frame for which I had held them for him being he recieved them a week ago. Even with all that which I never threw in his facee, I blew the whole thing off and said no problem just send the funds now and all will be fine, and your snakes will continue to be held for what was 4-5 weeks now. Two days later he writes me and says he is having financial problems and can’t afford them and says he feels awful about it and offers to send $40 for the time they were held and for feeding them as well as them not being able to be sold to anyone else. I have no emails saved to this account as I considered him a friend, but it can all be verified by a third party if necessary. My response to him was that I won’t expect it but if you feel it’s the right thing to do feel free, nevertheless no funds came. A few days go by and Mike contacts me apologetic about it and says he would like to purchase 3 of the original 9 that I had held for him close to a month. Once again I agreed and even still gave him a little discount. The money did show up soon after and we arranged a day for shipping. All three snakes were feeding excellent and looked awesome. I packed them in an insulated box with a 40 hour heat pack and sent next day air; the snakes were in transit for less than 18 hours. When they arrived Mike sent me an email 4 hours later telling me they looked incredible and were more beautiful than he expected. He also informed me that he fed them all one f/t pink only 3 hours out of the box and all ate flawlessly. Not a practice I would do personally as I believe they need a minimum of a couple days to acclimate and get over shipping stress. This can all be verified on the BOI as Mike posted a thread stating everything I just wrote about their arrival, appearance and feeding of which I will post the link. Now is where trouble comes into what is a normally a paradise for me.

Two days later Mike contacts me saying that one of the females had died and he had no clue why. I of course felt horrible about it and was curious as to why. After we went over some of his husbandry I came to the conclusion that Mike was owed some sort of refund. I offered either his money back or credit issued with my company. Mike decided to take the credit but I told him that he could redeem for a refund at anytime if he chose, I sent him a dated email stating that for his records. A week later he emails me again to say that another died and he believes it maybe due to parasites. I wrote back saying that I didn’t believe it could be parasites whatsoever. The reasons I stated that as 2 snakes with a sufficient parasite load to kill them probably wouldn’t have made it through shipping and definitely not ate 3 hours out of the box with the stress of shipping, and he said himself they looked incredible in the BOI thread. I also said I couldn’t believe it was parasites as I still have siblings here doing awesome, and I have sold some and all the owners have nothing but praise. If you look at the same BOI thread I am mentioning about Mike praising me and the snakes you’ll notice a thread by Wes Pollack stating the snakes he was sent from the same batch are doing great and he is very pleased. Now tonight I get an email from Mike saying the third and final snake is about two days from dying and he is sure it’s due to parasites, saying I may have had prior knowledge and threatened to take it here, so here it is. This truly offended me as I have never done a shady deal in my life and those who know me can attest to this, if you don’t know me do a search under Mike and Erica @ MotherGecko and there are a few dozen references of my business practices and my personal charatar. I will email a link to Mike of this thread as soon as it is posted so he is fully aware of it. I offered for a friend in his local area, whom was kind enough to offer his services to me to collect the dead snakes to get a necropsy, Mike had said it was an option he didn’t want to pursue. I have been extremely polite, professional, and more than courteous through this entire deal with Mike, even in the beginning with the payment problems and time consumed. So I bring this here for the Boards opinion on the situation. Your input is appreciated.

Thank you,
Michael Beberman

This Is Sickening

I have thought of Mike Fortier(I will refer to him as Mikey to save confusion in this post) as a friend for some time now, as I too frequent the chat room that Mike spoke of in his initial post. The immaturity Mikey is showing in his business dealings is disheartening to say the least.
I remember last year, or maybe the year before he had purchased some ball pythons from a lady who also used the AOL reptile chat. Those animals too were in good health on her end, had been treated for parasites and were feeding. Mysteriously , they died within her 7 day guarantee period, and she offered a refund.
I also remember a time when Mikey had placed an order with one of the large retail stores, I don't remember if it was LLL or Prehistoric Pets, but he later made joking remarks about how he got out of that commitment by having his mommy call to cancel the order.
I was able to let that go and continue talking to him, as it did not effect me, but I did tell him that I wouldn't ever sell to him when he has a mother that is going to dig him out when he has buyers remorse.
This latest issue with Mother Gecko REALLY pisses me off.
Mike Beberman is the best salesman that I have had the pleasure of doing business with in the industry. It sickens me to think about some kid making threats in email about bringing this issue to the BOI against a man who has NEVER had a negative post about him anywhere.
Not only would I not give this kid a refund, but I wouldn't even give him a second thought until he shows you necropsies.
If the necrospy shows that this is something that was a problem caused by Mother Gecko, I will start a fund to pay for the refund of the animals, and cover the necropsy costs on ACC.

WOW, I am shocked. I have have several conversations with mike. I have done business with him, not for animals but for supplies. I thought he was a good guy, I do agree a necropsy should be done. How old is Mike, I was thinking he was in his 30's for some reason.. IS he kid?

I think when I first started talking to him in the AOL chat he was 13.So he's 15, maybe 16 now?
Definately a big time SELLER BEWARE kind of person.

Sounds more like a

Foe than a friend to me.... Did Mike provide pix of the dead snakes...? Does he still have them frozen etc.? I'd like to know his reasoning for not wanting to go your route and have a friend come by and pick them up & take them to find out the cause of death. Although I have never purchased from you I did as you suggested and ran a search on here under your name & saw nothing but PRAISE.... Reading the post before mine, where it was st8ed that he had claimed something almost identical to this about the pythons,It just would not sit right with me.Something smells FISHY .... I would respectfully decline a refund to him in this situation. JMO. Pe@ce..... Mike Clark :dgrin:

Mike it sounds like you are doing everything you should and more my friend. I have never seen one bad thing about you or your herps. I know I have never bought anything from you but i have seen your stuff and know your knowledge. And I also know you set the bar for customer service.

Losing Corns is hard to do and IMO if it had anything to do with your end you would have seen it before shipping.

Everyone knows you are one of the best bro! I really am wondering what comes back from the vet.

Did you ask how he had them set up? Did he feed then try to cool them?

Yes did he send pics of the dead snakes? I would like to know that as well. I agree that there is something wrong on his part something is definatly not right on his end. I would hold off on a refund as well. Good luck, Shanell.

I am still shocked he is like 16..lol.. Pics would be a must as vet documentation and the bodies of the animals.. You dont thik they are alive and he is just wanting free animals?
-Matt Graybeal

I really don't want to answer too many questions without Mike coming here to speak for himself but here they come.

As to the age issue, I was not aware that Mike is a minor and I had talked to him for years in a reptile chat and never got the impression he was.

Concerning the pics, I did not ask to see pics when I was notified of the first snake. In hind site of course it being 20/20 I should have, especially with the ordeal that hapened with the payment, but I know that people can have problems in that department, hell if I sold every animal that the 'check was in the mail' I would be on a tropical beach.

Gary, when the first snake died I asked the general questions but thought it was a fluke of some sort or honestly thought it may have been due to being fed too soon out of the box, but I wanted him to be a satisfied customer and considered him a friend and no use crying over spilled milk, even though when any animal dies it always brings me down. When I was notified of the second dying and the third supposedly on it's death bed tonite I recieved the threatening email and posted this and immediately sent Mike a link to the thread as I will not be threatened and have nothing to hide.

Thanks everyone whom has said such nice things about myself and my business, it is greatly appreciated.

At this point, pics don't do anythiing for me. Pics and a necropsy would have to be supplied. If the first one to die was a fluke, that happens. Healthy feeding corns don't just start dieing though. I would imagine extreme temps at either end of the spectrum to be the culprit.

can you post

a copy of his threatening email.....? That I'd like to see, especially after him saying how pleased he was with your deal, snakes, packing etc..... IMO I just dont think this situation warrants a refund... & Even if you do refund him that will just show that much more what a good person/bizz. guy you are......

4:20 in the am here good night to all....... Pe@ce... Mike Clark :dgrin:

Yeah... Fortier is a minor.

Mikesir, my offer still stands if it would help resolve anything where this issue is concerned and it will continue to stand until you tell me that it's not needed; avaliable at your discretion at any point. I still believe that the temperature fluxuations that've been happening in Massachusetts during the period which he has had the animals may be a major factor- when the temperature is swinging by fifty degrees or more in the course of thirty six hours it tends to prompt a requirement for immediate adjustments to heating elements in order to compensate for the ambient temperature. Or he's just trying to screw you out of the other six corns he wanted; unfortunate that it needs to be considered as a possibility but without some more substantial proof and a necropsy it's the care you give your animals backed by an absolutely flawless long term reputation against the word of a minor who's only had herps for a couple years. The burden of evidence is squarely on Mikey.

Mike, I don't think you have a thing to worry about, I have never bought from you, but this thread wouldn't stop me. I have never heard anything but good things about you. Seamus, I agree with that asessment, I'm in Maryland and we have had 50 degree swings as well. The other night it was 70 when we went to bed and when we woke up it was 35. I have been adjusting all my reostats like crazy so I don't either cook or freeze any of my colubrids! This weather on the east coast has been crazy. I have some snakes I want to buy from a few people, but I can't say what the weather is going to do.

I'm surprised people thought Mike Fortier was an adult, from his posts on various fauna forums I've always regarded him as a child.

Perhaps at this point you should talk to his mother.

Honestly this really dissapoints me i have talked to mike in the reptile room and through im for about three years now and i have always thought of him as a good guy. Has this happened within a week? because last night he was telling me he made like 70 dollars.......Mikey this really dissapoints me, if what all is said is true. And im sorry that the corns you sold mikey are "dying".

Im going to fix my last post cause it was really uncalled for and the money has nothing to do with Mike Beberman or the reptiles at all.
Thanks,
Eric Weintraub

Ok, well here is my honest side of the story.
Take it as you will.

Yes, I am 15. I'll start with the deal Davey brought up of buying from Cathy, from an AOL chat. She recieved her payment timely, and gave me a run around for 2 weeks about sending the snakes. I feel she was honest though, and truely did have a family crisis as the snakes were sent out after a period of about 2 weeks. They showed signs of parasites from day 1. They were excreting a white, very foul liquid from their anus. This happened multiple times the first day. The first death occured over the first night. The second female was taken to a vet, and the vet gave me a list of problems. Hemridging (sp?), pneaumonia, and an array of possible internal parasites. The vet clinic I took this girl to was the Boston Road Animal Hospital, on Boston Road, in Springfield Massachusetts. Maybe Seamus has any imput on this Vet Clinic, as he is has been in Mass, and lived here. I don't have the vet's name.
Ok, as for the deal with LLL, that Davey also mentioned. I had ordered from them, this was about 1 year, 4 or 5 months ago. I had ordered 1.1 Adult Kenyan Sand Boas, the price was maybe $199.99, not sure but that's irrelevant information anyways. I had orded against my moms consent, and she had not wanted me to order them, so she called and had my order waived. I admit, that was my fault, I should have not ordered without parental consent. I also should not have made light on the situation, as Davey pointed out, because as I realize now, that was a major error, and I should've been more aware to the trouble I had caused to the staff of LLL Reptile.
And, the deal with Mike Beberman. Mike was very helpful, with getting me pictures, and information. I admit here as well, I had lied about the original payment. I didnt have 100% of the money, and I wanted the snakes, and yes I had the consent of my gaurdian on this purchase. But, again, Mike was very helpful, and gave me leway and worked out a deal on a smaller number of corns with me (3, 1.2). I sent the money, and he let me know when he got it. Then, we worked out a shipping date which was about 10 days or so past payment, after Christmas to avoid courier problems. I had received the snakes, and outwardly they looked fine. I fed them abiut 4 hours after receiving which, wasn't the best idea I realize, but they all fed, on small pinkies. The following day the male was found dead. I reported that to Mike, and then he offered me a refund on the male, as you all have read. About 5, or 6 days after this, the smaller het female was found dead. I had reported this to Mike, and he told me an offer from Seamus to have it necropsied. I did not outright deny a necropsy. I simply said, if it was going to be costly, it wouldn't be worthwhile on some relatively inexpensive snakes ($75shipped for the group.) Then, I reported to him that the final female was looking also very bad. I didn't, atleast in my own opinion try to "strong-arm" or "threaten" Mike with the BOI, maybe it came off that way. I was simply saying, if we could not resolve this ourselves, then maybe it was time to get a public opinion. I had offered him proof, I told him I had the bodies but he did not ask for any proof of the deaths. I don't understand why these corns would be dieing. I doubt it's the weather. I have another hatchling corn, in the same type of rack (Natures Spirit/ Snake Shacks), which was doing great, along with most of my snakes being housed in such an enviroment which are all doing fine. I think a necropsy on this last remaining female would be a great idea, to prove a cause of death.
That is my honest truth. I am guilty of some faults, but I am not trying to pull a fast one over anyone. You can believe me, or not it isn't really important to me because I have been honest here.
Anyways - Mike B., I will call you later, so we can discuss the necropsy, to get proof of a reason of death. I think that'd be for the best, to shed some light on the situation.
I will not be able to respond really anymore until Tuesday, maybe Sunday night, or Monday as my home computer is broken. I am at my father's house right now. My parent's are divorced, and I live with my mother.

In my opinion premature feeding plus extreme temperature swings can be the cause of death, as they can cause the ingested food to rot in the stomach. I wouldn’t limit the necropsy to the last corn though. It’s important to see if there is a pattern in all three animals.

Regards.

Maybe from now on Mike Fortier should be referred to as Mike F. through the rest of this thread as to not cause confusion due to both buyer and seller wit the same name.

First off BOAADICT I can't really understand your post, but I have never sold a unhealthy reptile in my life and my reputation shows it. I am not the admitted lier here, I have always done good business and my reptuation is sterling due to it. Feel free as I stated before to do a search on me here you will find over 50 posts stating I am an honest dealer and always have been. This ordeal has been going on since Thanksgiving and longer if you go back and reread not over the course of a week.

I didn't want to mention his name without his consent but since he has posted now himself Seamus was the one whom offered to pick the snakes up in Mike F.s area to take to get a FREE necropsy done on the snakes. I didn't mention the free part to Mike F. as if they had parasites as he so stated I would have paid anyhow, but he declined as he verified.

I have been in contact with Mike F. now throgh AOL IMs and he now is stating that they arrived cold. I pointed out to him that not only is this not the truth, but I sent him a link to the post he made here on the BOI when he recieved them where he himself states they were heated upon arrival, not only heated but in his exact words 'nicely heated', he now says the heat pack may have been defected. I tend to make a habit of including the heat pack wrapper inthe box of shippments so the buer knows two things, one that it was a new pack, two that it was a 40 hour pack and nothig less than the best.

I regret it ever came to this but I found there to be no other option after Mike F. made his threats. I have nothing to hide and here are all the facts from boths sides, so you decide.
