    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Ray resolved the issue the way he should have.

If Ray would have came on here and said something like, I did nothing wrong, I am not doing anything about it! You bet we would have torn him a new one! He didn’t. He did what most thought he would do.

Gregg, If this was a trend with Ray, I would agree with you but it is not. It is usually the scammers that get the wrath of the BOI and the people who refuse to fix the problem.

See Dan, he had a fair shake no need to act like Rambo on us.

P.S. I like your smaller paragraphs.

Shrap, Honestly...No...I do not see a difference.
Many of you have launched on people for far less...over, and over, and over...even when the mistake has been rectified. Go back and read again some of the posts...you will see a trend.

I am not calling Ray a "bad dealer" by any stretch of the imagination...I just find it odd that a bunch of you rise to his defense, whereas you normally would be screaming like an uneducated lynch mob....

greg
Greg I understand what you are saying the only difference between Ray and everyone else is That Ray made it alright in less the 3 posts so IMO that keeps his REP in tack Ive done a search to the best I could On Ray other then this one thread I have not found anything neg about Ray But if there are Point them out to me Thanks :)

You are all quite correct. I am not saying that Ray is the devil incarnate...I am happy that he fixed his situation in regards to this deal that went south. I certainly would not give him any negative points.
I do however, believe that some of the intital posts were perhaps..."pointedly nice"...whereas other new or unknown sellers have been hauled out to the cleaners.

Certainly, I do not think that Ray should be dragged through any mud...but then, that also means that
WE SHOULDNT BE DOING IT TO ANYONE THEN !!!

At any rate, this horse has kicked up it's feet, and is ready for the knackers...

greg

Dennis: I respectfully requested consideration for something from the webmaster. Quite the opposite of a Rambo style approach actually.

Cthulu77(chuck) I understand that you have seen many other people have been severly bashed on here. As mentioned they made a mistake and didn't feel the need to owe up to it. (By the way i'm a fan of Lovecraft as well.(Cthulu...) You insinuated that I would get in rescues and sell them. Let's address this. We take in over 150 rescues per year. All care and meds come out of our pocket. We offer these at no cost to nature centers, zoos, schools or approved keepers at no cost. At no time have we EVER sold a rescue. We have a number of specimens that have severe permanent injuries that we keep to educate the public about proper care and responsibility. I do not mention this to get a pat on the back. It's in the interest of the entire herpetological community to educate people so this does not happen again. My reward is to see peoples compassion when they see what can happen when a person is irresponsible. Yes, I did address the issue on TRR in regards to the rescues first. I felt that it was a priorty and i'm sure Tim can understand this and didn't mind waiting a few hours before I could address the issue of this thread. Next, it is mentioned that the specimen was "infested with mites" ? At no time was there a mention of a major infestation. It was "a few mites". Now before you run with the issue of a few mites or an infestation, let me say that even one mite is unaceptable to me...Especially on a sale. All possible efforts are made to ensure all specimens here are parasite free. I'm still looking into how it may have happened? I've even on occasion gotten mites that came from bedding.(I don't use that brand anymore.) If the snake was infested you should have seen evidence of mites on Tim's pics of the bag. You also mention, "why not stop taking orders..if i'm so busy?". The person who packed the specimen has never given me a reason to distrust him in his abilities. Has he made mistakes in the past? Yes have I made mistakes in the past? A big YES! We're all human. Also, new boxes and bags were available. We ship a number of anoles each week in these boxes. They do much better in these type of boxes than a normal box. He may have simply not thought it out well and made a choice that was a least incorrect. I never saw the box or how it was packed. I have not however, EVER seen him pack a shipment without newspaper both in the bag and as a cushion for the specimen in the box. Can I say that there was with absolute 100% certainty that there was newspaper? No...I did not see the box, packing method or deliver the specimen to the airport. I do however, question some of the statements on this. Someone, (I'm not going back to look who...) mentioned that I owed Chris with Top Shelf for a Fed-Ex bill? Well that's new to me? Chris and I have done business with each other on many occasions and I have a lot of respect for Chris. I would think he would make me aware of this if that were true? I use UPS not Fed-Ex and as far as I can recall I've never gotten a Fed-Ex shipment from him??? Thanks for the comments Evan and Zoo Supply. Also, Dan thanks for pointing out the fact that "bearded" was written on the bag. I think I know where that on came from.(A pet shop that sold out their bearded dragons) Greg...At NO time did I say that mites were no big deal or ok. Can they be dealt with easily? For the most part yes... However, no one should have to... We don't live in a perfect world. Also, it was asked how many people took care of our collection. Full time- myself and two other people. Part time- 2 volunteers and more when needed. We also, have people who "intern" so to speak. To get their hours needed to qualify for venomous or crocodilian permits. I would be happy to sent a can of provent-a-mite at not cost if needed. I would be happy to send an "upgrade animal" if one were available. (Must be female, C.B., exceptional color, and TAME. If anyone has one at a reasonable price let me KNOW! )It was mentioned by a few that maybe I should send a refund in full before the return...I don't know of anyone who would do such for me..HOWEVER, just to show how I will handle things...Look in your paypal account Tim and you will see that you already have 200.00 of the 275.00 cost of the snake returned. The balance and the shipping will be refunded within 48 hours of the receipt of the specimen. In addition if you do consider doing business with us again I will offer free shipping on any future order. I do apologize however, I think it was a very strong statement to open this thread in the manner you did. Plain and simply a specimen was packed in a manner not consistent with the quality and care normally done here. Nor was 100% effort made to examine the specimen before it went out. We send out conservatively 800 shipments per year. It only takes a couple to ruin a reputation you have built for years. Neither myself or my employee's are perfect. We will simply make every effort not to have this situation occur again. I try to make everyone happy with their purchase however, some will never be happy. Tim had every right to ask for a refund regardless of the questions of what was right or wrong. I believe I had a right to ask for a week delay so I could handle the situation MYSELF. If there are any more questions or if anyone feels I should handle this differently, by all means let me know. Thanks...Ray G. HBR

I think it was Chris Johnson that mentioned you had an outstanding shipping bill. Page 16 I believe, 3rd post down from the top.

Sorry, Ray, but that's just not going to cover it.... This is a ZERO-tollerance site!!.... After such an aggregeous sale and delivery as that one.... you are DOOMED!!.... Don't even THINK that FREE shipping, a FREE upgrade and IMMEDIATE refund will work.... it just ain't gonna happen!!.... Your reputation will never be the same again.... you will probably never sell another animal again, and nobody on this site will ever do business with you again.... I don't care how many years you've been in this business, ONE mistake, and you're TOAST!!.... Don't you realize the POWER of the people here??.... One word on a thread from them, and you might as well give away everything you've got and go into the shoe business.... and don't even THINK that if you turn yourself around for a couple of years will make ANY difference!!.... It WON'T.... you will ALWAYS be known, from now on, as the guy that sold a snake with a mite on it, in a bag that had a stain on it, and a box that had air holes.... SHAME ON YOU!!.... I just HOPE you can sleep with yourself tonight!!....

Neil

And after all is said and done, a routine poster somehow believes the seller received a "fair shake."

I am not confident if that is a bigger problem over mites.

I (greg) seem to have been lumped in with a number of others here...chuck, etc...shipping???what?

Neil...don't you think it is somewhat unfair for the boi to launch a full blown attack on one person for basically doing the same thing that rAy did? If you happen to think that such a situation is ok, I guess we must agree to disagree...look back over dozens of the threads (some with your name on them) and tell me that you don't see a sort of favouritism...

Why I have been pushed to the head of this debate is beyond me...maybe I should never have dared to dispute allya'alls conclusion...sooooorrrrry.

greg (only two g's)

I like that Neil...The word for today is "aggregeous sale!". Thanks Bill for pointing that out.(Page 16) Chris sorry about the miscommunication I wasn't aware we owed you...Maybe it's my "oldtimers" kicking in. i don't know how many are aware of the problems here in Florida in the last year.(Hurricanes etc.) However, when we lost all communication abilities I tried to get my cell number out to everyone. We finally had reliable phone service restored here at the shop 2 weeks ago. (Been out or not working properly since late October!)No DSL yet. Chris please give me a call so we can square up the account if it's still outstanding. 772-519-1376 Cthulu77...I noticed that you felt that there were groups or individuals defending me as soon as this thread was brought up...It seems to me that both sides were present. I was dissapointed in the fact that boths sides simply did not say, "Why don't we wait until Ray can respond and the facts can be presented for both sides. You notice I said, "Both sides". I think both the detractors and supporters should have simply waited until both sides responded then they could make intelligent responses for or against the matter. It was up to 18 pages before I had even responded yet...LOL's! Keep in mind that I have no hard feelings towards anyone that does not agree with me or criticizes my actions. I simply do the best I can and try to do the right thing. I'm up for an INTELLIGENT fact based disagreement any day. Thanks to Everyone. Ray G. HBR

Oh Neil, you must be so mad at yourself for missing the bulk of the debate on this thread. A day late and a dollar short eh? You have really doen some great work with your sarcasm since last I saw you post. It is coming along nicely. I disagree though entirely. I truly believe that the way that Ray has handled himself in this thread and in this transaction will in the long run benefit him substantialy.

Ray, if you do read the entire thread there were actually several people, myself included that mentioned that there was no point going on with the thread until you posted, but some people will always enjoy flogging a dead horse. Lucille and Dan were both strong supporters of the "wait for Ray" movement as it was. In the end I think it wrapped up nicely and we can safely say, time of death (of this thread), now.

Raymond Goushaw/HBR was a regular here when I first joined. Always very nice and helpful to those who had questions.

I have seen alot of his ads with pictures of turtles he has had for sale. I would definitely buy from him if he had something I wanted.

I like most everyone on both sides of the debate on this thread, and I am sorry things have gotten so bad.

Ray paypaled me $200 and he said he will pay the $150 in 48 hours after arrival.
I will keep everyone updated. I already bought a can of proventamite so I don't need it thanks anyways.

Tim

Again thanks Evan for pointing that out. Also, thanks to others that were the "voice of reason" so to speak. I obviously missed some finer points. I was just getting more anxious to defend myself the more I read. Sorry... Please note a response to Cthulu77 BOI Thread; "Fauna, BOI, and Favoritism" page 15. #79 (Sorry my computer wasn't allowing me to paste or link for some reason?) Well I hope how this was handled was acceptable for both sides. Personaly I felt it was rather "long winded" and should not have evn made it this far but, some good points were made JMHO Thanks, RayG. HBR

Tim: for future reference, that proventamite stuff is the same as that lice-bedding spray however lice-bedding spray is much cheaper and costs about 5 bucks a can.

Since there is no longer a mite issue, why are you returning it?

I think you should keep it and if it does good for you, you may save yourself a bit of inconvenience and money to get another one?

In any case, good luck.

no longer a mite issue...?

EVEN if the mites have been delt with, there is still the fact that eggs may have been laid, and any mite could carry disease. Glad you "still don't think mites are a bad thing" Dan.

David: I still don't think mites are a bad thing. I don't think they are a good thing. I think what I said before. They are a common ailment that can be treated easily with lice-bedding spray. Got it? OK. I hope you understand it better now like the other 100 folks who are still knocking their heads against the wall thinking I am a mite lover.

I've been seeing mites for over 30 years, once or twice a year, however have yet to determine they transmit anything myself because I was quick to treat. And inferences to diseases in this matter could be misleading as its common sense that any vector or anything including the air we breath can transmit something to our collections.

If there are 100 people, as you say,

who think you are a mite lover, then maybe it is YOUR wording that is throwing people off??? If your collection gets mites a few times a year, and you are ok with it, fine. But do not put your sub standard on someone else,
