I don't really know where to start with this, so I guess I will just jump in with both feet. I have done business with Ryan in the past and will do so again if he ever has anything I am interested in again. In July of 04 I believe I purchased a young male hypo boa from him that came to me in perfect condition, as described. There was nothing outstanding about the transaction, it was just done the way transactions should be done. Great communication (we talked several times a day through AOL instant message, and continue to talk every couple of weeks or so now). Because it was just a standard cut and dry business transaction, I didnt feel the need to post it here. Ryan knew I was happy with the animal, and I am sure he was happy with the money.
That was the first, and only time I have done business with him, but not the first time I had talked to him about purchasing animals from him. In fact, the first time I ever emailed him was when he was selling the rescued hog island boas that made him famous. I think I saw him in the AOL chat room prior to that, and may have talked to him in AIM ,but didn't really put 2 and 2 together. The reply I got when I inquired about the hogs was enough to dissuade me from making that purchase. Not because of a pissy attitude, or anything like that, but because he DID share everything he knew about the hogs, to include a link to the original rescue ad explaining their historys. I can only assume that anyone who inquired about them got the same type of email , with everything spelled out in black and white.
I have been talking to Ryan quite frequently as of late, and have noticed that he is caring more about the way people see him. He is concerned about the standing of his name in this community, and the same couldn't be said a year ago. He is sounding more mature than the pitbullophis we all have read about. He is growing up, and trying to make the changes necessary to be a "good guy".
I don't know how many times I have heard (read) people telling bad guys what they have to do to better a situation. "Just do the right thing, and prove that you are changing".
Is that just to get them to pay someone off for some deal they burned someone on, or is that really the road to recovery? Ryan has many successfull deals behind him that have resulted in happy customers, myself included, and will likely have MANY more in the future. However, any time someone posts about them they are questioned about the validity of their post. Ask me if I am Ryan, ask me if I was coached by him. If I were Ryan, and had his temper, I would tell you right where you could go right?Ryan has a temper issue, that is easy to see, but a malicious person he is not. A man who has slipped in the past, and is on the path to being a better peron, yup. It doesn't take much to set him off, and that is his biggest issue, since I can't think of anyone who was burned by Ryan. I can't say how I would react if someone was pissing on every post made about me, but had never done business with me, nor had they ever known anyone that I wronged. Ryan to the best of my knowledge has made ammends, so why don't we just lay off and see if he continues on the high road? Is it because that advice we give the true bad guys is a load of manure, and that their name will never be the same no matter what they fix? Ryan hasn't burned anyone that I know of out of anything, and when he does have a fault, it is remedied. Isn't that the measure of a good guy according to the signatures of a few?
I think it is time to either give him some slack, or stop telling others that all it takes is to regain the trust by being a better person.
Ryan's "bad guy" stuff(if you want to call it that) happened before a bunch of good transactions. Is that what makes him bad?
Would it be different if he had a good name first? We have seen here recently a man who had numerous good guy traits, straight our rob someone. Ryan hasn't done anything like that, but he is treated worse than that guy. Why do his good transactions not outweigh the bad (especially since the bad weren't even business dealings)?WOuld it help to ad WWJD in his signature line?
I am getting off track now, so I will end this. I personally would do business with him again, and while I can't change the apearance of the bad guy that some perceive, I do hope that some may lay off a bit to see if he continues on the good guy road. Of course he is going to lash out if every time someone posts a good transaction they have his past crammed down their throats. What does his past have to do with the way he currently handles business? (If you look closely, you may even see that Ryan's "lashing out" has been toned down quite a bit as well.
